Did you expect otherwise? This is the time when people just want to see the crypto bubble swelling more and more, Monero is a project that can shine only when true adoption will be done. People don't care about privacy when they still have difficulty using cryptos, keeping them safe, and not falling for malicious ads on tiktok. A friend of mine running a discord server for an NFT project tells me almost every day about users asking help for: 1) drained wallets after clicking some ad or after trying to sell fake NFTs they randomly receive 2) lost NFTs due to a "mysterious Burn button" they see in the interface (they lack all the basic knowledge and terminology, yet they click on anything like it's a videogame) 3) lost access to their private wallets because they don't understand the concept of "seed phrase" and they never wrote it down (not to mention the ones who put it in a TXT stored on Google Drive) Let's imagine ourselves in a future where any of that is not a problem anymore, where the hype has cooled off and the market volatility is stable like the stock market one, where the greater slice of people is the one interested in the use cases rather than in finding the next 1000x gem. Now we can talk about Monero utilities, even though I think that after full adoption, governments will do anything to declare Monero illegal or to deal with it like it's the Tor browser of cryptocurrencies.

Seed phrase > Plain TXT file > create 7zip archive of TXT file with password you will never forget (AES256 encryption) > upload to cloud storage. Have a dedicated laptop for interacting with your crypto, not your daily driver. Problem solved.

I would assume it's the same reason people say not to take a picture of your seed, or write it in a TXT file. When your system is compromised, someone else could potentially get a partial key to your coin. Yes, multisig makes it a little trickier, but less secure than some DIY solutions, IMHO.

Not at all true in the EU. The EU just this summer passed it's legislative framework for regulating crypto. This creates a similar regulatory framework for crypto as what exists for traditional markets, creates market harmonization, and an EU wide licensing system (passporting). https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52020PC0593 Meanwhile multiple EU states are year after year asking the EU to cap cash payments. Some EU states internally already have limits on cash payments. This is all done due to money laundering.

I haven't found any text stating the travel rule in https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52020PC0593, so I don't think it made it into the final law. Feel free to correct me if you find it. The closest parts are requirements for identifying sources of "conflicts of interest" and sources of "risk". There are lots of articles saying a 1K travel rule, but all forms of "1000" (e.g. 1,000, 1 000) aren't in there either.

Paper has no security compared to something that can be password protected, and cannot be backed up. If anyone finds your plaintext paper, your security is gone. Compared to say, an AES256-encrypted 7z container protecting a TXT file containing your seed-phrase. You're only as secure as your password behaviors. If anyone acquires your 7z, they'll be spending a long time attempting to brute force.

EU (just like everywhere) is pushing [crypto regulations](https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/regulatory-framework-blockchain) ahead. UK is closing its initial consultation at the [end of the month](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-sets-out-plans-to-regulate-crypto-and-protect-consumers). We should have a a detailed proposal like the EU [MCA](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52020PC0593) within 12 months. My point was mainly due to the tax benefits for the company in Ireland vs UK. PS: Whatever CEX you use, make sure you know what country they are trading out of.

Encrypted notes exist. You can download Standard Notes and put your seed phrase in there. KeepassXC can store encrypted notes. You can make a virtual encrypted drive with VeraCrypt, store a TXT file with your seed phrase in it, then store it on Google Drive, OneDrive, etc. and as long as you made a randomized password 16+ characters long (if you're thinking how do I remember that, get a password manager), no one at Google, Microsoft or any hacker who gains access to their drives are cracking that encryption. You really don't need to do all the extreme crap with metal plates of your seed phrase. Just use encryption software, separate business from pleasure on your electronic devices and understand that there are no hot MILFs in your area, so stop clinking shady links.

I don't think that is particularly true. EU legislation coming in 2024 ([MiCA](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52020PC0593)), to my mind, is a decent balance between stringency to protect investors and leniency to promote innovation. The resulting market confidence in crypto should create a massive surge in adoption/investment. This influx of new money may even outsize the positive effect of btc halving.

Any domain can serve whatever TXT they want, it's exactly as decentralized as domain resolution is. I have my own at \[myusername\].com for example, and you're welcome to check out the TXT records on that domain if you wanna see the monero address I have published. Publicly accessible bitcoin nodes have virtually the same level of centralization. It's true that they don't necessarily require a domain (although practically speaking, few people will use your node without one), but they do still require a globally routable IP address and a server to sync and distribute the data.

Mentions:#TXT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

A domain with unique TXT is pretty much centralized. A bitcoin node is just a copy of all the other nodes though...

Mentions:#TXT
r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

No, it works with DNS TXT records so anyone with a domain can make their own. If TXT records are centralized, bitcoin nodes are be centralized by the same logic because both require globally routable IPs to accept incoming traffic.

The legislative process (including the final negotiations) will likely take at least 6 months. Seems that afterwards, the legislation would apply almost immediatly ([cf. article 32](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:52021PC0422)). Regarding who this would apply to: >This Regulation shall apply to transfers of funds, in any currency, or crypto-assets, which are sent or received by a payment service provider, a crypto-asset service provider, or an intermediary payment service provider established in the Union. If I understand correctly, non-EU citizens would only be affected if they use an EU bank, exchange or payment provider. (Note that all the above is based on the first draft of the legislation, which is now being amended and negotiated).

Let me see if I understood correctly. You sent LRC from one wallet to another. You had your private key in .TXT format. But for that to work you have to disable 2FA ? Because your wrapper simply uses login credentials from .TXT as identifier I see you are on UAT, so I guess security is more laxed ?

This is where you fucked up big. Never store your info in unencrypted files. Evernote encrypts in transit, but not in storage. If you're storing such critical notes digitally, you need to encrypt the file with Veracrypt and use a strong password. Randomized and 32 characters long. If you want digital copies of your seed phrases, install Veracrypt, disconnect from the internet, then store a TXT file with your seed phrase in a Veracrypt vault. You can then store the file on a separate storage or upload it to Google Drive/OneDrive. A properly randomized password on Veracrypt isn't getting cracked. Use a password manager if you're not. If you're using a password manager already and your Evernote password was actually randomized, then you're probably infected with malware. A 16+ character long randomized password is not getting cracked, and you probably wouldn't remember a random password to accidentally leak it somewhere. If you do have malware, you need to clean up your online activities and improve your computer security habits.

So no digital version of your seed exists?....no digital photo of your seed uploaded to Gmail? No .TXT version stored on your computer or on a thumb drive etc......you only ever wrote the seed down on paper? How many copies? Where are they located; such as a super secret hiding place that I can't control access too or in my less secret safe that no one but me has access too? Just trying to narrow down some possibilities.
