Yes and OP has likely seen this hundreds of times. Everyone who gets burned like this gets burned because they try to outsmart themselves. Anything online and digital has so many magnitudes higher attack surface than an analog offline only seed (i.e written on paper or metal only). Many many many magnitudes higher. It is just a massive increase in risk. With crypto it only takes one mistake, one lapse, one malware and it will be gone instantly. DO NOT STORE YOUR SEED PHRASE IN ELECTRONIC FORM. NOT IN AN EMAIL. NOT IN A PASSWORD MANAGER. NOT IN A TEXT FILE. NOT IN AN ENCRYPTED TEXT FILE. NOT IN A PHOTO. DO NOT STORE YOUR SEED PHRASE IN ELECTRONIC FORM. Use a hardware wallet. Get in the habit of only storing your seed phrase offline in analog form and only entering it directly into the hardware wallet. Never enter the seed phrase into any app or website even if you are "sure" it is legit. Doing all of that creates a very powerful mental and physical firewall. The attack surface decreases by many orders of magnitude.

To be honest even if the government helped create bitcoin who cares? Thank you. Doesnt change the fact of the network and its positive influences or the reality of the US Dollar anyway. Its doing exactly what it was intended to do. Disrupting and rebalancing the entire system. I mean if we didnt have it what else would we do? Print ourselves into oblivion. This isnt just about price. BITCOIN IS THE FIRST FORM OF TRUE DECENTRALIZED MONEY THAT HAS EVER EXISTED. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. Every person is literally a walking Financial Institution now.

That's wishful thinking > "The amount of bitcoin represented by the Shares will continue to be reduced during the life of the Trust due to the transfer of the Trust’s bitcoin to pay for the Sponsor Fee and other liabilities" (FORM S-1 REGISTRATION STATEMENT, ARK 21SHARES BITCOIN ETF, p.46)

This literally created ETH classic, if it had majority support it would be the dominant ETH fork. It is that simple. This is like arguing that BSV was actually the most popular bitcoin fork somehow. Like, no, then it would be Bitcoin? And you’re right that the current consensus is that the policy should remain. But that is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM guaranteed. You can downvote me all you like, doesn’t change reality.

I used to be a HARD CORE gold/silver bug… I never thought bitcoin was a scam but it was reported as a “PayPal” like digital money from the fools in the media at the time… I never thought much of it because I already had paypal. After it reached parity with gold, I was CONFUSED because it wasn’t physical, so it broke all my understanding of hard money… then after the market crashed 85% I was too scared to get in and I still was CONFUSED as to what gave bitcoin it’s value. I used to wander “why isn’t bitcoin backed by anything physical.” Peter probably has the same mindset. Peter hasn’t asked himself any of the fundamental questions as to what gives bitcoin it’s value… like most gold bugs, in his mind, if it’s not physical then it’s not “real.” The none physical nature of bitcoin was the LAST HURDLE I had to study before I completely left gold for bitcoin. Now I understand that the properties of bitcoin wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for its none physical nature. In a modern world, gold is a POOR FORM OF MONEY compared to bitcoin. I should know because I GENUINELY TRIED TO USE PHYSICAL GOLD AS SAVINGS/MONEY for years before getting into bitcoin. I tried the #getonzero fiat with gold/silver and it’s much much much more difficult because the premiums were high and the dealers only purchased at 90% melt… so that’s a loss of 15-20% if the melt price did even change and you needed the money fast… also some dealers try to CHEAT YOU will questionable scales and measurements. Also, you might want to sell but the dealer went on a trip etc. I tried to barter with gold/silver too, and it’s a poor experience compared to using bitcoin… I was always in fear of someone running off my my gold/silver as they “checked it” to see if it was real… constantly being asked “is this real” and people always wanted to tear open seals etc… just a bad experience.

if it's true, if he's not a scammer himself who's been playing the long game [because, he might have fans/a following/defenders but how was it confirmed he really lost 50k worth of crypto?? because that is a COMMON scam as well because grifters know there's always a segment of the community who will believevthem..ALWAYS.. and many grifters are *very* convincing over the long term & they also know how to create convincing files to make it LOOK like funds went out so their defenders can have 'proof.' some of them have also done this repeatedly, even without changing their public name..but definitely there are name changers, too but who don't actually always change their appearance! and that guy, he's supposed to be an *experienced* crypto influencer?? and no doubt he DOES have defenders, believers who will donate to his cause which scammers count on. because there are always such people who are not careful, are susceptible to the cult mentality and they will always *lose their minds* whenever there are even reasonable concerns about their favorite coin or influencer.😐 but otherwise?? that kind of cautionary tale is EXACTLY WHY the SECURITY STANDARD IS to NEVER STORE YOUR SEEDS, PRIVATE KEYS in DIGITAL/ELECTRONIC FORM ever!!🙄 but this guy did exactly that?

r/BitcoinSee Comment

I had a chance to buy at $1000 and I thought it was crazy high… then it crashes like 80% and I thought bitcoin was “over.” After it recovered I still thought $1000 was too high because it was not physically backed by anything… I was a gold bug so I was confused what gave bitcoin value. After seeing China failed to kill bitcoin, I purchased my first sats at about $7000 and I thought it was CRAZY HIGH… I questioned myself because it was substantially more expensive than gold. After studying the properties of bitcoin, I dumped all my gold and silver AND NEVER LOOKED BACK… not even $27,000 seems high bitcoin is my money of choice and it’s ethical money like good but for the digital age. Fiat is unethical trash based on violence and lies… I no longer see bitcoin as an investment but as A NEW FORM OF MONEY. I don’t care about price.

I'm happy for discussion - I'm just saying that genital checks are a thing in american thanks to republican anti trans backlash. Let me link you: [Ohio](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ohio-lawmakers-advance-trans-sports-ban-with-genital-check-2022-06-03/), [Florida](https://www.bing.com/search?q=american+gential+checks&cvid=d44fcdc4be68492f9136ed71b095b239&aqs=edge..69i57j69i11004.2477j0j1&pglt=43&FORM=ANNAB1&PC=NMTS),[Georgia](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2020/09/gop-senator-introduces-bill-require-genital-exams-girls-competing-school-sports/) All moving to start genital checks legal by law. As for Transgender equality - [click on any of the states](https://transgenderlawcenter.org/equalitymap) to see what laws they have. Overwhelmingly Republican states are oppressive. I'm not saying you or your republican friends support either of those things - but your party certainly does, and if you are unwilling to accept that it's fine, but facts don't care about your feelings. A few isolated incidents mean nothing. Systemic, continued assaults of rights is a trend and a pattern

Coinbase paid millions in consultation fees and lawyers fees only be shut down for no reason. There is NO FORM to register a crypto token as a security. They are lying to all of our faces. I 100% plan on getting rich from this coming bull. I've been a software developer for over 7 years and am converting most of my wealth to BTC. I'm figuring out how I want to use my 401k to buy as much BTC as possible. It's the last piece. I moved savings, stocks, and now trying to get the 401k. Once my net worth is high enough I'll use it to convince everyone around me to get in BTC starting with my parents and siblings, then friends. I plan on taking this opportunity to get the people I care about moved over before they retire. This is my plan right now. I'm not that secret about my "get rich moderately fast" plan, people just don't think it's a good idea. But really, is it a bad idea when you are guaranteed to be fucked over 10 years sticking with fiat - IN ANY FORM. Let me be a guinea pig in the paradigm shift. If this works it will inspire many people around me and I'll lead them through the following bull if they need help.

According to Coinbase's Q2 2022 FORM 10-Q, their customers hold over 2,000,000 bitcoin. But the import question here is how many bitcoin does Coinbase have in their on-chain wallet to back those "off-chain" bitcoin positions. The answer is... drumroll... 5,681 bitcoin held in "Crypto held for operating purposes". That would mean that around 2,000,000 bitcoin were created out of thin air and sold by Coinbase, Fed style. If you know anything about economics, you know that two factors determine market price: (1) supply, and (2) demand. Since Coinbase, and other crypto exchanges, apparently have near-total control over supply, they effectively have near-total control over market price. Isn't that lovely?

There are two types of bitcoin, (1) on-chain bitcoin, and (2) off-chain bitcoin. Presently, it appears that exchanges, like Coinbase, are engaging in the practice of selling non-existent bitcoin (i.e., off-chain bitcoin). What that means is that Coinbase does not have a real, on-chain bitcoin (i.e., a bitcoin on the blockchain) in Coinbase's on-chain wallet to back all their customers bitcoin positions. This practice effectively increases the supply of bitcoin on the market and gives exchanges massive control over market price. I pulled the Coinbase Q2 2022 FORM 10-Q and did a bit of analytics and it appears that Coinbase customers have been sold around 2,000,000 off-chain bitcoin. If accurate, that is huge. In fact, I believe the above practice is the precise reason bitcoin price has dropped so drastically over the past year. This is a big deal and must be addressed. However, the anarchist in the bitcoin community will never ask for the government to intervene and require exchanges to back off-chain bitcoin positions with actual on-chain bitcoin on a 1 to 1 basis. If this problem is not addressed, bitcoin will no longer be a safe place to store value. Don't forget, bitcoin is ONLY a STORE OF VALUE.

r/BitcoinSee Comment

Bitcoin does not exist in a bubble. Crypto exchanges can flood the market with off-chain BTC and literally suck value out of on-chain BTC. Coinbase, for example, appears to have sold nearly 2 million off-chain BTC positions (according to their Q2 2022 FORM 10-Q), which I fully believe to be the source of the drop in market price over the past year. The laws of supply and demand are factual. If exchanges have control of supply (which they appear to have), then they control market price. Which means, when you go to use your BTC you'll have less value to spend.

You have to distinguish between on-chain BTC (as shown above) and off-chain BTC sitting on the books of Coinbase and other crypto exchanges. BOTH types of BTC impact supply and market price. Coinbase appears to have approximately 2MM off-chain BTC on their books, according to their Q2 2022 FORM 10-Q. <<< is why price has dropped (imo). Econ 101 - control supply, control price.

You, sir, are absolutely, positively correct. But according to Coinbase Q2 2022 FORM 10-Q, the vast majority of those off-chain coins are held by institutional investors. That fact adds even more skepticism to why this is being allowed to happen. But get this… those BTC that Coinbase sold at USD$60,000 at a cost of USD$0 (less the cost to hedge the risk) and then sold at say, USD$20,000… that is a cool USD$40,000 profit realized on the shakeout. AND Coinbase (and a few other exchanges) had the size to control price by controlling supply. Bitcoin, in-and-of-itself, is awesome and does exactly what it is supposed to do. However, it does not exist in a bubble, making it vulnerable to schemes like above.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY FORM OF MONEY ON A BITCOIN EXCHANGE. Their business model is to go bust and steal everyone's money. Leaving your coins on an exchange in hopes that it eventually gets to your family through the court system is ludicrous. This is the worst answer.

My friend and I have been working on this project for the past 2 years as a hobby, but we quickly realized we have neither manpower nor marketing know-how to effectively deploy it. Therefore, we are searching for a protocol that could make use of all we have created in the past 2 years. In the spirit of boundless creativity, could you please forward this mail/document to whoever might be searching for such content? All I have to offer is listed in the PDF. (Click on "what we offer" on the main website) It serves as an example of what the early concept of the game could look like, but being open-minded, someone could use the content in a completely different way. For example, Nft card game developers looking for high-quality art. What kind of project is this? A carefully thought out NFT-RPG set in dark fantasy, inspired by games like Witcher, Skyrim, Spellforce & by animes like Berserk, Claymore, and Attack on Titan! Also, Warhammer fantasy/4k :) You can take a quick look at the official website for a general idea. https://www.ariaofblight.com/ If there is any more information we can provide please let us know! Thank you for your help!!! RECAP 1. I HAVE RPG-NFT RELATED IMAGES, TEXTS, VIDEOS,.. 2. I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THIS CONTENT TO SOMEONE THAT IS SEARCHING FOR SUCH CONTENT. 3. It is, in absolutely NO SHAPE OR FORM, any user's responsibility to care for the health of the chain as a whole. The only reasonable expectation you can make is that they will act in their own best interests, and even that isn't binding by any stretch. The system must be designed in such a way to be impervious or antifragile against attacks or activity that might be deemed malicious or maladaptive, and if the system is not capable of doing that then it is the shortcomings of the system and nothing more. Anyone that put any money into the coin in the first place was implicitly agreeing with a complex set of rules. They are the ones who are accepting risks they don't understand by agreeing to complex rulesets they don't understand, but if there is any moral or ethical detritus here it is solely the result of the actions of the "investors" and marketers/devs. People implying the whale has a responsibility to the "health of the chain" that extends a Planck length beyond his own financial interest likely don't understand the full stipulations of crypto, and that's why these things keep happening. Another great example is the flash loan attacks, where people who don't fully understand the implications of their liquidity staking pools are walking headfirst into algorithmically selling all their coins for firesale prices to a smart contract.

If you're trading in 2022 and when you do your crypto taxes in 2023, don't rely on TurboTax or any other tax platform to do it for you when you can actually easily do it yourself. All you have to do is, every time you make a trade buy/sell/exchange, use an excel spread sheet to jot down EVERY transaction. This way when it comes to doing your taxes, you already have everything noted and you already calculated all your profit/losses. All you would need to do is get a print out of your trades from your exchanges and make sure your profit/losses on each trade matches what's on the exchange. Which if you did your calculations correctly, everything should match. Then you use "FORM 8949" and you just use your excel spread sheet and type out all the date/buy/sell/trade/profit/loss information on that form 8949. You just need to not forget that after every single trade you make, to make a note of it on Excel this way all the work will be done when you're about to sit down for taxes. That's what I do. I learned this the hard way the first year I did my crypto taxes and didn't use an excel spreadsheet. Like you I was pissed off and angry and almost said "fuck it". But I found out the next year that using an excel spreadsheet for every trade made things 10000000% easier for when you sit down and do your crypto taxes.

Oh, look, another **completely misinformed (or bad-faith) post about politics.** The "AMERICA COMPETES ACT" was signed into law by **President George Bush** in **2007**. The intent of the law is to "**C**reate **O**pportunities to **M**eaningfully **P**romote **E**xcellence in **T**echnology, **E**ducation and **S**cience" (C.O.M.P.E.T.E.S). In essence, it looks to create opportunities (duh) and "promote excellence" as in *regulate*. It was updated once during Obama's government in 2011, and it's likely going to be updated once again in 2022. Apparently the crypto related part is in page *1482* and a few ~~totally not misinformed or bad-faith actors~~ folks are pointing to this as something bad. The updates change, remove, integrate, clarify etc. several things on the original legislation, and it's not a surprise that it's a very long legislation, specially with the crappy formatting and big fonts they're using. I spend so much on crypto from my fiat account, but then I realize that I am not spending it on food, items I want, etc, which in turn leaves a - balance in my account, but then realize that my money isn’t gone and that my crypto account IS ANOTHER FORM OF SAVINGS.
