I live in Spain and originally from Portugal and crypto is not only allowed by widely adopted in both countries, to the point you have crypto ATM machines everywhere. Also mining is completely legal and CEXes operate normally like you said. Also when he is also lying when he says that developing countries made crypto illegal. Same thing just happened to me. Old [blockchain.com](http://blockchain.com) wallet, logged in for first time in ages to send to cold storage. Did two small transactions first just to test (saw them come in to the cold wallet v quick :) ), then the site prevented me from sending more but was still showing right balance. Logged out, logged back in and that main wallet balance is down to 0.01 on the Defi Wallet tab on Blockchain.com. The bottom fell out of my world for a bit until and I found this post. Not much... found out about it in 2011 on reddit. "What the fuck is a bitcoin?" Read as much as I could for the next day, talked to my then GF about it. She gave me the ok to run it on our gaming rigs, (4850HD and 6950HD,) made $105 in about a week. Became hooked, started heavily gpu mining between 2011 and 2015. bought into BFL, lost my shirt there. (funny enough, I have a BFL miner on my desk still as a reminder not to get suckered again by false promises and bullsh!t like that.) Avoided then NFT shit like the plague. Never really got into ETH, friends did tho after they saw what I was doing and they made some gains. Happy for them. Decided then I wasn't going to mine anymore until the hardware reaches a plateau (and since has.) Seen it go from $1.92 to almost 100k today. It's been a ride.

I think she should get everything. She cannot take that hardware wallets. Those are phyiscal things the family gets autimatically without a will. You’d have to commit perjury in order to keep that money. If five other people testify he had crypto accounts and the GF says he didn’t, she likely loses. It’s a preponderance of the evidence standard in civil matters like this.

There is every chance that the GF may have had access to the private keys (12 or 24 words) This means she could have swept them already and had red herring’d you saying she won’t give you the pin. Once you get the pin, the funds could be wiped, so from here that’s a very difficult situation. I’m sorry for your loss. If she doesn’t have the seed phrase (keys) then the money will sit there. When it becomes 1M USD plus, you’ll no doubt be contacted by her, and potentially share the money somehow because everyone wins at 1M.

I re-read the post after writing this, and it seems that OP only **believes** that the GF has the PIN, and since she probably doesn't have free access to the parent's house it is unlikely that she could even use it if she had it. It is possible that one seed phrase of a multi-sig was given to the GF, who is being coy about it lest she be dispossessed.

My GF had the same request from Amex a few months back which we thought to be absolutely ridiculous. Even after handing over all transactions with privacy information from other people blanked out they wouldn't accept it. So she called the Dutch GDPR authority so ask whether this was indeed an acceptable request, because as far as I know companies may only request the relevant information to complete their task and nothing more. So when they want to verify source of funds they can ask you where your money comes from but not where you've spent it. The GDPR authority confirmed this and provided a privacy compliance emailaddress from Amex to contact and let them know they can't ask this from you. A couple of days later the issue was resolved and two weeks later Amex sent a personal apology letter for this issue. Even though this was with a credit card company in the Netherlands the issue seems the same. They can't ask for information that they don't need. I believe GDPR legislation is decided on an European level so I'd advise so first withdraw your funds, and if you feel like it follow the same process. Contact your local GDPR department and ask them if what Kraken is doing is legal. Even though they need to be compliant to KYC rules they still need to comply to GDPR legislation as well.
