It would be so hypocritical of Trump to release oil from the SOR after he and Republicans exhausted themselves talking shit about Biden doing it under operatively similar macro conditions. Which tells me this is the first step that’ll be taken by the administration to ease us into this conflict, economically.
Presidents don't control pumping oil but they can influence other countries. If Trump calls up the King of Saudi Arabia and asks them to increase production they can. If Trump tells him it's because he's planning an attack on Iran, Saudi will be happy to help. Refilling the SOR now would be a good idea, I agree. But Trump will only do it if he thinks it will directly benefit him personally, so I doubt it will happen.
If you just retired you better have much more than 3 years of liquidity. More like 10+ years in cash/cd/bonds to stave off SOR risk
I’ve got Jan 25 calls for ET. Not making nearly as much as PAA but it’s consistent and I could see 17 dollars happening relatively soon which would mean 200%~ but we’ll see DD is pretty simple, US has to fill SOR plus summer travels means a solid amount of midline through ET so naturally should go up. Only really worry is the dividend but the contract has solid time going for it so it should be fine
You're a truly curious person :) SPX is single-listed on CBOE so the whole PFOF game does not really apply. Your order will be sent to the exchange (CBOE COB if it's a complex order), with a possibility of being routed to the floor (you can also select that). 1. For single-listed products, large funds will either (a) slice a large parent order into a collection of smaller ones and route that directly to the exchange or (b) call a dealer and ask them for a quote which later gets printed on the exchange. For multiple-listed options (e.g. single name), it's either (a) their prime has an SOR that would both slice and route to the exchanges or (b) again, call a dealer and trade it with them. In case of (b) market makers or (if a product has open outcry) floor traders might get involved and so the dealer does not get to cross the whole thing. 2. SPX book is a regular price/time priority book. You send a limit order for a specific price, it gets placed in a queue for that price level and when orders ahead of your order are all filled, you'll get your fill. Size gets no priority (unlike say some STIR products which are price/size priority books). So to answer your question - assuming both orders are at the same price, the order that arrived to the exchange first will get filled first. 3. In most cases the contingent orders (OCO, LIT/MIT etc) are held on the broker side so you might experience bizarre effects like the ones you describe.
Government has got drillers working like mad , oil price down due to supply, and this lets them refill SOR cheap and also counters Opec production cuts plus it is good for the Voters attitude.
Navy war == a shitload of oil. Plus we are still supposed to fill our SOR. Oil will go up 10% in 10 days.
It would take an act of fucking Congress. https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-21-118 I'm saying the SOR is a stopgap to increase local production (among other things). It would take roughly 20 to 30 days to increase local production to meet demand. https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/061115/how-long-does-it-take-oil-and-gas-producer-go-drilling-production.asp#:~:text=Shale%20wells%20can%20be%20drilled,and%20can%20take%20much%20longer Also, Biden and Co openly admitted to doing what I originally posted. www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/03/31/us-to-release-1-million-barrels-of-oil-per-day-from-reserves-to-help-cut-gas-prices.html With the above link, Biden releasing 1/20th of the daily supply every day would do nothing to the price of oil.
Yeah, and what about refilling the SOR? Oh, that's right, Sleepy Joe BS'n again...
Summer record travel and heat, refilling SOR
I want a new Streets of Rage in the spirit of the original so bad. I skipped SOR4, I didn't like the changes I saw
Put down the controller, turn off CoD and go outside and touch the grass - Ukraine ain't ending anytime soon...it's escalating. As for Biden, forget re-election, he'll be lucky to avoid prison at this rate with the investigation ongoing and what's turning up there. The SOR still has yet to be refilled, as well.
I can see how it may look like that, and for all we know it may be true but looking back now it’s such an obvious play, and he wasn’t they only one with the foresight to make that bet. Tons of big name investors went long energy after Covid hit. - Economy stopped dead in its tracks. - Oil futures cratered into the negatives - FED slammed interest rates into the floor and printed 40% of all money every printed in a year - Oil demand skyrocketed as the world economy reopened because people realized the world isn’t doomed and we’ll still need oil, probably forever - OPEC cut production - US already had started to eat heavily into its reserves. - Russia decided to fuck around and find out and got sanctioned into oblivion - Inflation…Commodities are hedges against inflation All that seems to me like Oil companies would be making money hand over fist. I was too dumb to make that bet but I’d wager Warren Buffett isn’t (wasn’t). The way I see it now is there’s an artificial floor in oil probably around 70$ as the war in Ukraine continues, OPEC keeps cutting production, and the US scrambles to refill the SOR. Imo Buffett can put 2 and 2 together and thinks oil will remain elevated for a long time so the oil giants basically print money and he got in. Again hindsight is 20/20 but someone like Buffett who is a voracious reader studying markets like it’s his job (which it is) probably didn’t need someone to give him advice on the oil play.

In my opinion oil will keep going higher. Remember our government is still releasing oil out of the SOR. Russia is a wild card who knows what they will do. Opec don't want prices to drop. Biden talks about more oil production but the increased regulations are putting a strain on production. I'm holding now and thinking about adding more in the next week. Good luck everyone.
We are close to rebuying levels on the SOR. OIL and energy are just a data point in the whole equation of inflation.
#SOR- Sorry My Bad Man Unintentional
Should have absolutely dumped the SOR into the supple in the past week
So funny, it was literally in the 100 range 2 weeks back, damn Wall Street taking this puppy down quickly, yes china govt propping the economy going into their elections and there after it’s anyone guess, similar to the US and gas prices, once the govt starts replenishing the SOR, would expect rising oil prices
After the midterm is hard to decide on what politicians will do, they want to seem like they’re tackling inflation going into the midterm. Ironically though, the government will start buying oil again in order to fill up the SOR almost immediately after the election. One can only assume what that’ll do to the price of oil. Will they stop giving af about inflation? Will they really crash the market to tame down inflation? I often wonder which of the two help the elites and government more? If you own assets why wouldn’t you want to see your house appreciate in value? If you’re the government why wouldn’t you want a weak dollar to pay back the debt. Tough prediction to make.
> food prices at Costco are higher again from a month ago. however gas has gone yeah and now the US SOR is at all time lows. OPEC+ is cutting production and increasing prices to the US... what do you think is going to happen to oil? Even if the fed uturns, commodity prices is spike (oil over 130) because of a reversal in the dollar.
Not quite. That issue was a single day which sorted itself out. The ins and outs of the SOR is governed by other things. It's supposed to be a flexible supply
The Saudis waited for the SOR to go down and Russia turning off the pipeline before floating the idea of reducing oil production for maximum leverage on Biden and Europe
We can produce oil domestically at a >4x clip than we can deplete the SOR. I don’t think this is a huge issue.

Ah fuck I loved this game .. also streets of rage stillmplay SOR every week
No deep knowledge of the oil patch, fren. Just liked the username. Other than we are draining SOR just in time to fight china, who will be full.
SOR already factored in price.

I don’t think that was the intention for the SOR release, it was merely to try and provide temporary relief for oil prices while others measure for sought. I’m probably wrong though
SOR in this Case is not a Ticker….

Great insight… I just found a great article explaining SOR risk and will send it to her. Also in regards to diversifying, assuming in this market she should average the money back into the market over a year or two Vs dumping it all at once?
Sure. I should have been more careful with my wording. I wasn’t inferring wartime “only”. More so, “war-like” emergencies. You know, like actual emergencies etc. So we can manufacture needed items, not so we can drop the gasoline price from $4 to $3.98. Releasing SOR to try and score political points is not an emergency enough to justify the admins actions IMO. 🤷♀️
Biden to announce opening up SOR today, grab your oil gains at the open.
ASX SOR 100% In. Like it because every element of humanity can generate its own sustainable energy source. Couple this with something like Brainchip's Akida low power Ai chip, and we have an ultimate solution to meet the modern era in creating solutions for problems. I think of the Black Panther suit harnessing energy from energy. We become the power source, and the battery. We share and store the energy between us as people. Is this Biometric Energy Production? Whatever it is... I like it...

No. Buy SOR today. Ubiquitous application paint to energy. Expect 2x this week.
Contango happened under trump, negative futures price happened under trump which caused the frackers to shut the doors. Not sure why you would think the president has any control over gas prices, it’s mostly OPEC. I don’t really care about politics but trumps policies vs bidens aren’t really the issue, it’s economics. Kinda pissed biden is using the SOR for political purposes tbh
Makes you wonder if the previous presidents who tapped the SOR were any more pragmatic or were making the same calculations.

SOR, yes. Algos as catch all, eh, kind of. Order types definitely don't have to be manually selected, tho. I have algos that programmatically determine order types. But, in general, I think you're right, we were just using slightly differing definitions for "algo", which is fine. Cheers.
Algos is a catch all. Order types and the algos for execution have to be manually selected. Some can argue SOR is independent of algos

Winnie the Pooh* OH FUCK NO PLEASE IM SOR-
Ig default their buys through dark pools IG uses smart order routing (SOR) technology to search for liquidity across multiple venues, starting with 'dark pools' that offer mid-point matching – meaning you get the best possible chance of price improvements. [https://www.ig.com/sg/glossary-trading-terms/smart-order-router-definition](https://www.ig.com/sg/glossary-trading-terms/smart-order-router-definition)
SOR generally works by first checking dark pools then going to the market. This is only on 'aggresive' orders that are above the best shown bid (for a buy). It generally gives you better prices than going straight to market unless the market moves quickly against you. The intended use case for SOR bypass is 1) If you are trading on news, you'd like your order to go super fast. 2) If you are trading a large order, and you detect a lot of liquidity on the market, you might want to give up better pricing to get more of your order done. 3) If you are scared about tipping off a dark pool participant because you are trading a lot sequentially, you might turn it on. It is almost always a mistake for retail orders to use it.
If you can switch it to IEX it would be good, otherwise make sure that SOR isn't through a Dark Pool.
My broker routes through Morgan Stanley SOR... is that good?
