Agreed. I worked in a grocery that accepted EBT and I remember so many bags of chips being bought with them. Bummed me out but I get it. Chips are cheap, the kids will eat them, and they don’t spoil after a few days. No nutritional value though
In America, regular people received stimulus checks in 2008 and multiple stimulus checks in 2020. People are regularly offered assistance - unemployment insurance, EBT, disability, Social Security, tax credits, etc. You probably should have paid attention in grade school.

If you look at the model and control they use for the current EBT cards (in the US) they already have a similar setup.
Half of Americans pay no federal income tax. Half have gotten some sort of entitlement / welfare program. This means at least half will go along with a CBDC out of the gate. CBDCs will replace the EBT cards and all the shit like that. From the other half, all the big government control freaks will go for it as well.

In my experience the homeless are making it impossible to help them. Give them money, they buy drugs. Give them housing, they sell drugs and run prostitution. Give them EBT, they buy alcohol. I don't know who all knows, but my household pulls down six figures in a place where the average salary is closer to $30k. EVEN MY kid just got a SNAP card IN HER NAME with EBT benefits so she can buy food. They're going to train up a child in the way they want them to go, so that when they're old, they'll buy those darn soy dogs and be F'n happy.

Welfare does the same thing now with EBT and food stamps. If you don't use all of it by the end of the month, you lose the remainder and get your allotted amount the next month. I was at work when it happened. It was only for PIN verification. For some reason the system couldn't access the PIN verification. For straight Visa or MC credit transactions it worked as normal. So Debit cards, EBT, etc. didn't work, but credit cards did.

I’m not trying to imply they’re trying to improve EBT. Their plans are way less wholesome than that. They want to replace the dollar with a more controllable, mutable, and traceable currency. All the systems they have in place to do this today, while having been around for decades/centuries - its old as hell and they want to modernize it. I believe China is the model we are headed toward.
A form of EBT already exists all over the world. Making those type of choices is solely political, not technological. For instance, food stamps / EBT in the USA can be only used for specific products and situations, but Bolsa Família is a Brazilian EBT program that just transfers the money to the person and then its theirs, just like a salary. Again, choosing one model or the other is a political choice that has already been made and will continue to be made completely independent of the technology used to enforce it. Examples already exist for decades.
CBDCs will be more like EBT. They can control how long it’s valid, what kind of products you can purchase, and will be far easier to create and distribute to peoples wallets. Money printer about to get a whole lot more efficient
