In 2017 the ICO boom was very real ... until it wasn't. There were tons that shot up in value very quickly, bit virtually none stuck around. At that time Ethereum was the only network where smart contracts and dAppps were possible, so these were all ERC20 tokens that were traded directly for Eth. Out of this craziness we saw the first true meme shitcoin emerge in Doge. In 2021 there weren't as many, and maybe the most successful new coin that stuck around was Shiba. But there were a few others that seemed to have a strong following and community. All of these payed off big (although I sold my Shiba wayyyy to fucking early). My prediction for this bull is that we see higher upside on other L1's like Solana and Cardano, both of which have strong community and cheaper transactions than Ethereum. Solana is just a shitshow of memecoins and it seems like it might be difficult to find a clear winner this early. But I'd say a lot of people will get rich off of who knows what. Obviously BONK has had some success and there are a few others like GUAC that seem to be gaining a lot of attention - I won't mention all of them but you can easily find them on the Solana sub. Cardano isn't really meme focused and historically they would probably sort of turn their nose up to that sort of thing, being so damn academic and all. But over the past month we've seen quite a shift, specifically with SNEK and FREN. Last week SNEK became the highest market cap memecoin on Cardano in short order, hitting $100M with about 20k holders. FREN came out like a week ago and has now already passed all other Cardano tokens in daily trading volume. The FREN (ADAPeepos) network is also supposedly launching an exchange soon but I can't confirm that this is true as I haven't really investigated this too much yet. One thing that's nice about Cardano memecoins is that there are far less tokens to focus on so whatever degenerates exist in that community don't need to spread as thin to provide the same support. In any case if the recent months are any indication it looks like the next year or so will be another fucking shitshow. Good luck
