[NEWB] is there any downside to ppl losing their Bitcoin as far as the overall value of BTC? obviously the loss is bad for the individual but for the rest of us doesn't this just increase the value of our holdings?

Lol so you did zero research and dove into a bunch of rug pulls? No shit. $NEWB - Easy to speak to the team. Literally proof of charitable donations being made to really worth causes. Devs have had a million chances to jeet during pumps, and haven't. You literally have to put the work in if you want to find proper gems.

>I originally got into BTC for the investment aspect, but the more I'm learning, I like the idea of being able to have a "direct hold" on my BTC. Congrats on the step in the right direction. >Looking to cash out FBTC and move to a more direct hold method. This means you're going to sell the paper Bitcoin and buy the real Bitcoin. Selling might trigger a taxable event, unless you bought at a higher price than Bitcoin is right now. >I already have a Coinbase account, so the easy option is to move the BTC there.. unless anyone has any better suggestions? You don't want to leave your Bitcoin at the shitcoin casino. It would mean you only changed your custodian. You want to take the coin out and keep it in your own custody. >As I understand it, Coinbase has a "wallet" that allows me to hold BTC, even offline? Their wallet is pretty bad, full of shitcoin code. There are better hot wallets put there: [https://blockstream.com/green/](https://blockstream.com/green/) \- Top Security Features, Open Source and Non-Custodial [https://bluewallet.io](https://bluewallet.io/) \- excellent, easy to use wallet, Open Source and Non-Custodial [https://www.sparrowwallet.com](https://www.sparrowwallet.com) - top desktop wallet [https://electrum.org](https://electrum.org/) \- Solid choice, Open Source and Non-Custodial, one of the oldest and most trusted Bitcoin Wallets. I prefer the desktop version but it works on mobile too. Lightning wallets to consider (cheaper and faster transactions, great for very small amounts): [https://phoenix.acinq.co/](https://phoenix.acinq.co/) \- Phoenix - very good wallet, uses Tor for extra privacy, easy for anyone new [https://blixtwallet.github.io/](https://blixtwallet.github.io/) \- Blixt - great UI, fast and clean [https://breez.technology](https://breez.technology/) \- Breez - excellent POS for small business owners as well as integrated Bitrefill or LN Pizza >Or is that something I'll have to put on a flash drive? Hardware Wallets (to store larger amounts): [Trezor](https://trezor.io/) \- Easy to use, no matter how new in Bitcoin you're. Use the Bitcoin only firmware as it's safer than a multi coin software. [ColdCard](https://coldcardwallet.com/) - air gapped, Bitcoin only, less new user friendly but there are great tutorials to help with setting it up. [BitBox02](https://bitbox.swiss/bitbox02/bitcoin-only/) - another great little device, opt for the more secure Bitcoin ONLY version (less coins = less code = less chance for a hidden bug or a backdoor) [Jade](https://blockstream.com/jade) - air gapped, fully open source, Bitcoin only, great features. You can even [build it on your own](https://github.com/Blockstream/jade/), if you feel adventurous. [Seedsigner](https://github.com/SeedSigner/seedsigner) - another DIY, fully open source, air gapped, Bitcoin only hardware wallet, not for you if you're just starting up but something to consider later. There's also Ledger, but I wouldn't recommend it as not fully open source, keep and already leaked customers' details, recently said they're capable of sending customers' keys out just with a firmware update, etc. **Stay away**, save yourself a headache in the future. Whatever wallet you'll decide to buy, purchase DIRECTLY from the manufacturer, no eBay, no Amazon. Make sure the device is NOT preset, and you will generate your own seed words. Write them down on any piece of paper as well as the receiving address. Now wipe the wallet and generate a new wallet. If the seed words are different from the first set, you're safe to use it. Find an option to set a passphrase and use it. This will boost the security to another level. Never store the seed words and passphrase together. Use a different medium if possible. If somebody finds both, they'll be able to steal your coin. This little device will hold the keys to your money, that's the reason why you have to be a bit more careful. Also, no worries, if it breaks, you can replace it - as long as you keep your seed words and passphrase(s) safe. >Sorry, these are probably total NEWB questions. Don't worry. Visit r/BitcoinBeginners and search for more answers or ask if you can't find one.

Lol, that is not inflation whatsoever. Inflation is NOT higher prices. BAD NEWB! WRONG!

I think SOL does have a future, as for Avax and Terra: i'm NOT saying they DON'T have one, it's just my humble opinion that they won't be amazing in the long game. Avax more than terra since i tend to value inflation a lot and AVAX just doesn't pass even the slightest sniff test in those terms. Terra could be big, but i'm a bit risk averse i guess. Lastly, regarding polkadot, i like the project a lot, but ease of use and brand recognition + community go a long way in crypto. I only invest in stuff that i actually like to use, and while i could do some stuff with DOT, from a NEWB point of view it's kind of a nightmare. Think of it like YOU using your smartphone to it's fullest potential and then your great grandparents trying it. ADA (since it's the one you mentioned) it's STUPID EASY compared to DOT. AGAIN, for the inevitable flaming that will come from some users: I DO like DOT, i'm just not invested in it. No hate.
