I had known about Bitcoin but didn't really understand anything about it. In Jan 2021 I saw it on the news everywhere that it was shooting up. This time, I joined the bitcoin sub and started reading up about its history and watching related documentaries and videos ([Hidden Secrets of Money](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyV0OfU3-FU&list=PLE88E9ICdiphYjJkeeLL2O09eJoC8r7Dc&index=1) being my favorite). I figured we were still in the early stages of a bull run, so I dropped some money into it, and watched it grow! I didn't look into alts since I was hanging out with BTC maxis, but later I realized I should explore more and landed on this sub. That's when I started reading about Web3 and DeFi, and I was HOOKED! Somehow, I was still wary of using it, though I did muck around. I slowly started exploring DeFi AMMs, money markets, etc. in September I think. Started out with the Algorand + TinyMan. Then went onto BSC chasing some shitcoin, but ended up joining a stablecoin LP on PancakeSwap instead. While farming on PCS, I wondered if a bot could claim and compound the CAKE rewards for me, and hence discovered Beefy Finance. Now I mostly hold BTC, some BIFI, and am in a couple of LP farms on different chains using Beefy Finance.

To completely get a grasp on this is to ask yourself why Bitcoin was created. Try to get a understanding on our current monetary system and what’s happening to it. Understanding what money truly is is key in all of this. Below are links to Mike Maloney’s Hidden Secrets of Money and Bitcoin Audible. Back during the 2008 financial crisis Mike Maloney helped me understand what money was and isn’t and he breaks things down so that you understand. In Bitcoin Audible there are tons of articles dealing with BTC and our monetary system. Remember you don’t invest in BTC hoping to get more fiat…even though you will. You buy and hold BTC to watch everything on the planet become cheaper for you bc you hold BTC. You are no longer a part of a dying and corrupt system that steals wealth and value from your labor. Welcome to Bitcoin and the rabbit hole. I actually stumbled onto the rabbit hole (central banking/economics/politics) *before* Bitcoin was introduced. Like you I have a technology background. As such I found this niche (at the time) passionate group elevating former Texas congressman Dr. Ron Paul on Digg, the precursor to Reddit. Dr. Paul provided *much* need education on the US Constitution (which so many swear an oath too...) as well as money and economics. Anyway, I won't drone on here, but many things (like the Tea Party movement) grew from there which Bitcoin later intersected. If you haven't seen the following already I very highly recommend watching. First is the "Goldsmith's Tale" from Money as Debt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nBPN-MKefA - Money as Debt I - Revised Edition 2009 (Full Movie) That will bring you up to speed on the problem of central banks, fractional reserve and money as debt (all of which Bitcoin's model fixes). I'd give Episodes 1-5 a 10 out of 10. Episodes 5-10 are somewhere between a 5 and 9, but all still rank highly. Those episodes get into a bit more predictive speculation, something nobody is perfect at and Mike Maloney is human. However, by the time Episode 8 rolls around Mike has gotten educated about Bitcoin enough to do a presentation on it. Mike does a lot better with his strong suits, history and traditional money, than concepts based on technology, so he incorrectly sort of writes Bitcoin off for an alternative in that episode. Again, nobody is perfect. Mike is quite bullish on the prospects of cryptocurrency overall, though, and one of his early episodes includes Dr. Paul. Many early Bitcoin adopters (I'm an early adopter) are quite familiar with Mike Maloney. Enjoy!
