I mean you could guess a number that's a valid card but then you'd need a CVV and an exp to match, those test cards accept anything so they can be used for testing. If you really intend to try this probably best to buy a deck of stolen numbers off the dark web or use your own card if you don't care about the company trying to sue you for the fees they got charged

I don't know how much revenue this actually is to paypal, but there' a world outside the US where credit cards are not as common yet. With paypal you can use a regular bank account. Also, at least in my region, it is much more common for ecommerce than google pay or apple pay (actually i have never even see an apple pay checkout button somewhere.. does it exist?). The card number stays the same on each device, but the magic happens with the CVV information: it’s a per-transaction CVV card, so even if it is captured, it’s only good for that transaction. I did/do retail transaction system design and had to modify the profile builder code at my last company to account for this.

In Poland it costs $12. They went aggresive with pricing here but fucked up payment options (card payments didn't work for a long time and now you need to log into your bank account every time you pay for something to confirm the transaction - all probably caused by them not using CVV numbers for card payments for some reason).

Unfortunately, it's just a different culture here. "Corporations are people", and the laws are written to protect the most important people. Temporary/disposable card numbers do exist at a tiny handful of banks, for a nominal monthly fee. And *one* third-party service was providing them as well, until the banks started blocking that service entirely. As far as the 2FA on cards, that simply doesn't exist in the US in any form whatsoever that I'm aware of. If I gave you my debit card number and CVV, you would be able to empty out my entire checking, savings, and investment accounts in a matter of minutes. I wouldn't even know about it for the 10 days it takes my bank to process the transactions on their end. And since you're outside the US, exempt from US courts, after a six month investigation the most I would be able to recover is whatever pittance my bank decides to give me as a goodwill gesture, the rest would be up to me to recover from you personally. Keep in mind, this is a country where chip-and-pin didn't exist until 2019, and even major big box stores will sometimes use a 1980s-style credit card imprinter (which makes a carbon copy of the raised lettering) on purchases over a specified amount. To say that we're behind the times on consumer protections is an understatement. But at least the corporations and billionaires are protected, and that's what really matters, right?/s

With the world’s sand shortage for making chips, I have been thinking about what might replace silicon in the distant future. I read that carbon nanotubes could be an option. They are a long ways off from becoming even close to as good as silicon chips, but well, I won’t be retiring for another 25-30 years. Anyone have any investments in this area? Well not a oil/mining company but $CVAT makes caviation technology to pump oil for cheaper. 800k to 1.2M in sales by end of Q2 (this is already confirmed through their recent announcements of sales and when they’ll be able to deliver to not make it a liability), net income was +80k last year. Closest caviation tech company to them is $CVV which is a 3-5$ stock, had 4-5M in sales but net income was -1.2M last year. They also have a number of patents they are releasing for other market sectors. I think it will be a decent play.

This is not sensitive info at all, at a minimum digits 7-15 are unique (technically n-6 to n-1 because amex has to be different). That doesn't include the CVV code or any other info about you. The last 4 digits are printed literally everywhere, every time you pay for anything the vendor can view that info

Feeling this. My whole portfolio is down 4% today. Only DVN, TNXP, CVV.V, POR.V and PNG.V are green. Overall, I've lost money on four of those five (have only profited on DVN), and the gains today are very small, so it doesn't mean much. Down 19% on my second largest bag. SMH.

You're right. While processor breaches exist everyday this right here is a BIN attack. At any point of time the bank I work for has identified 1k-2k active CPPs (breaches). These can be gas stations, grocery stores, merchant processors and online retailers. Card sites and criminals alike do test the cards they bought sometimes. Typically current day this is after they receive a decline which is an indication whether they should keep trying the current card or move on. The dead giveaway here is the super aggressive nature, which cards (first 6 digits), and low dollar transactions. If it was a real large scale breach the dollar amounts would IMO be a lot higher since they do not need to guess card numbers, CVV2, exp dates.

Based on the data I think it's going to be an acquirer, but it's almost impossible to tell which one without seeing it from the network side. - Think of the Heartland breach, as a consumer you have no idea which business you visit sends data through which acquirer (and larger retailers have multiple acquirers). - It's also possible there are multiple merchant breaches and they are mixing the cards together to try and obscure the common point of purchase. - If the small test transactions are hitting with CVV2 data then it's most likely an e-commerce breach and not pos memory scraping mal-ware as CVV2 isn't really allowed anymore at a physical pos. - Interesting about the replacement cards being charged as well that would indicate they have access to account updater files that the brands send so merchants can update their stored account numbers and the customer doesn't have to re-enter them. They could get those if they were in a merchant that supports it or an acquirer.
