Not to forget that cold storage is also dangerous when not UNDERSTANDING the triad of Information security, CONFIDENCIALITY, INTEGRITY, AVAILABILITY.... Bitcoin roots are in cyberspace, in digital space, started by brilliant guys already knowing at advanced level concepts of cryptography and how to really protect information.....So, when non technical people is adviced "hey do self custody bro, cold wallet" without putting emphasis on those 3 components...there is a high risk of the user losing the private key (not having redundancy), having his private key destroyed by an accident (using paper, plastic, and some fire got the cold wallet keys destroyed) or simply falling into a social enginnering trap if he does not know the value of the private key... Yes. Always will be safer cold storage and self custody, but make sure you use redundancy (at minimun 3 backups of your wallet keys) and keep them safe, if possible in different location. And most important...DO NOT TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU OWN, TALK ABOUT BITCOIN, BUT NEVER ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE IT...PEOPLE LIKES TO BRAG ABOUT THEIR BITCOIN AND THIS IS ALSO A RISK FACTOR.

> they tried Atomic wallet first but atomic only showed $2k worth This part is interesting, possibly even a little suspicious. Malware on a compromised device would drain **any** wallet, even if it only had 2k in it. Perhaps you, or the "user" you are referring to, has been a victim of a more elaborate social engineering attack. I'll explain how such an attack could play out, it may not be helpful to you (OP) but some others may benefit from understanding just how easy this kind of attack could be. Person A (Attacker) discovers Person B (Bitcoin holder) has a valuable stack of cryptocurrency but doesn't know how to access it. Note: it may seem odd that someone could have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bitcoin and not fully understand how crypto works, but keep in mind that bitcoin was once very cheap (less than 10 dollars per BTC) and people would use it to buy drugs on the darknet. There could be a lot of "Person B" type people around with old and valuable wallets they forgot about. For new people, this is why people in crypto will tell you NEVER TALK ABOUT YOUR POSITIONS/HOLDINGS. Person A builds trust with Person B and offers to help recover their crypto. When it comes time to recover the wallet, the Attacker copies B's seed phrase, but instead puts in their own phrase in the wallet, so they can show person B "The wallet has 2k in it, but not 4.4 BTC". This gives the Person A some time to prepare for the theft, and Person B would be suspicious if their wallet was already empty the moment it connected. This also allows Person A to suggest using a different wallet ("Atomic didn't work so lets try Exodus"). In OP's example **BOTH** of the wallets they tried have been hijacked by malware in the past, which provides a smoke screen and a scapegoat later on to explain the theft. Person B could simply drain the 4.4 BTC wallet at any time once they have the seed phrase, but the best way to keep Person A from getting suspicious would be to do it with an automated transfer while being in close proximity to Person B, so Person A can say "I was right there with you when the BTC disappeared from your wallet! You could see I didn't click sell or transfer!" This last part would best be carried out by Person C (Criminal accomplice), they could mix the BTC after the theft and sell it P2P or through wallets that can't be tied back to Person A. > Is this a Jaxx recovery wallet issue or are the funds gone? It was on his iPhone. FBI has been reached out to. > Any help or guidance is appreciated! This part is also interesting, you are asking "are the funds gone?" in the same line as "we contacted the FBI" Are you sure the thief isn't INSIDE the house? This comment is satire, for entertainment and education purposes only. I don't really think OP stole the bitcoins but it's fun to think how a social engineering attack could easily be blamed on malware.

First rule of bitcoin: DONT TALK ABOUT BITCOIN. Seconde rule of bitcoin: Dont talk about RULE 34 (For those who dont know about rule 34...."your welcome")

Mentions:#TALK#BITCOIN

DO NOT TALK! learnt that rule in 2020/21. Bitcoin will go so high you will have to go into hiding. current system is beating people down. people will be pocket watching thinking they can decide what you do with your money. the moment you say you wont give people any or "share" cos you "got lucky" and have more than enough, things will get sour and bitter. its funny, monetary discipline is what got you where you are today, but when you get money and still apply that discipline, people will become your personal money manager in their own heads and will get mad that you're not spending like they would if they had the money. but that's exactly why they don't have any money. not saying not to give money to help those around you, but do not welcome any spirits. even the nicest of people can become overcome when they are faced with the spirit of desperation. if its not your friends that are desperate, then your blabbing friends will open their blabbing mouths and word will spread to circles that are full of people who wont have any issue taking your for a ride in the boot of their car. if you see your bitcoins as your money, then keep it to yourself. if your bitcoins are everybodies money, then sure tell everyone. as a matter of fact, dm me $100 after this just for the advice i just gave. ill send you my address. 100 is small change, that's nothing for a person like yourself since you're here telling everyone how much money you made. you probably made boatloads after buying at 16k.

true.. i also mined it to see how it worked.. lost 3 or 4 wallets in the way.. bought it and sold it few times.. always know that it was going to grow.. but sometimes it was too expensive for the time.. and left for "later".. then it gone expensive again.. then bought again then took a few profit.. and so on.. i think that is very rare to find or think that someone just kept it there.. and dont took 100x profit or something.. they could buy again if they wanted at the time.. as i did.. but the runs always been volatile and somehow violent.. at earlyer times was not so easy to buy it too. took me a lot of efort and research to buy at the first time and to mining it at the first time.. and i changed tje mining for scientific research later and then received gridcoins for it.. wich failed and gave me 400usd i think at the end.. at the time i had 2 top end amds gpus that was doing a lot of hashs .. BUT not worth it at the time the bitcoin earned were not paying 1/3 of the energy spendt for example.. so you needed to believe tjat it gona multiply 3 times soon to you to get something... yeah i and others dreamed about and calculated it maybe 10 20 years later if all do right will value 100 500 or even a million if adopted and used everywhere... but it was like a dream. you take a dream or you take 100x profit and still you have a chance to buy more or to mine more tomorow.. i think the silk road and this stuff guys business may left many bitcoins left on wallets and many of them have millions or billions.. others the majority of people just gone in and off... and the rich ones realised it was going up in 2014 2015 2016 2017... and invested 50k.. 100k or more and now have 1 or a few millions ... there is a guy that posted his investments in bitcoin since 2015.. he bought all the wrong times.. all the tops prices.. spendt 50k.. and now he have 1 million ALL THESE BULL RUNS PRICES PEOPLE REGRETS AMD TALK AND THINK ABOUT whyyyyyy i not seee whyy i not bought it before... and i tell that the chance was that if you had it before the most chance is that you also sold it before for profit.. or just lost your wallet bcs was low value big password thing to keep and the hard disk at the time were common to fail, and for 20usd you just trow it on garbage.. (there is many historys like that) - my lucky is that i think my wallets had not much inside. bcs i normally did a new one on the blockchain bcs i had it runing online on my pc.. and i usually transfered the funda to the new ones and sold it.. maybe i changed my memorys to believe this way to not suffer.. this topic made me think a lot.. maybe this subject make many think a lot.. bitcoin is a big thing on the history.. and changed the life of many.. anyway.. in someway i feel that i had it in my hands.. and i lost it.. bcs at the time was not an easy thing to know or to find or to buy.. maybe more people feel this way too.. but whats done is done.

My Golden Rule Of Thumb... ...Absolutely NEVER talk about your Bitcoin with family and friends. Because if you do and when BTC rockets, they will be the first to come to you for a handout. And then when BTC crashes, they'll bring it up casually to rub it in on you. NEVER TALK ABOUT YOUR BITCOIN!!!

r/BitcoinSee Comment

a big lesson in life is that you'll interact with THOUSANDS of people. tens of thousands maybe even. and everyone will have a different idea in their heads of what's real and what's a story people believe in. whether it's evolution, god, whether ghosts are real, or aliens, or if taxes are theft... there'll be people believing everything from crime statistics to whether guns are responsible for violence. you'll never know. the barista handing you change when you get your coffee might be picturing you naked and thinking about rubbing your feet. you'll never know what people value. a unified china? a unified israel? a sovereign palestine? quebec? north ireland? the point is. if you TALK about bitcoin you'll have a thousand stupid things thrown at you - you can take it personally that they're insulting YOUR stupid ideas, or you can wave it off because ALL ideas are stupid. or you can just not fuckin talk about it, and skip the whole thing. these people will always exist because we are all these people. sometimes it's bitcoin, sometimes it's "the lake." "can't wait for this summer's trip, going to spend a week at the lake." "god, why, that sounds so boring" good luck with interacting with people!

By your logic you should invest in rice. 1kg of rice will always be worth 1kg of rice, and if society does collapse bitcoin is going down with it. But non perishable foods are eternal. You obviously don’t even understand the world enough to even TALK about this subject and discuss it, let alone have a paranoid delusional opinion of it. The internet did not go "mainstream" simply because people went around preaching it in public. It went mainstream gradually when it started to serve people's needs with **actual utility**. Right now, there's two broad categories of utility I see: 1) Investment and trading, and 2) Limited value store and in turn, payment with value store. Internet went mainstream more with actual utility beyond its underlying tech. Email and FTP rest on RFC 1939 and 354 but users don't need to talk abt how great these RFCs are or how TCP/IP is superior to IPX or X.25. Researchers and academics would have their discussion on BBS and UNIX / VAX forums but they didn't go around evangelising to normal folks on the street. Instead, they just build up the underlying tech, coming up with newer and newer applications until someone come along and bridge product with tech. Early web sites were fancy upgrades of BBS. Many basically were ports of BBS from text to html. Then we started having email providers like [postone.com](https://postone.com), [hotmail.com](https://hotmail.com), and directory/search services like Alta Vista and Yahoo!. IRC, ICQ, Instant Messengers came along while Real Audio and then Real Audio, gave voice and video to the internet. Users did not really TALK about the internet, they just used these applications because they provided some kind of utility to them. If crypto users go around talking in public to people about crypto without something more tangible beyond the above two utility categories, we would really sound like Christian evangelist or mormons, preaching for the sake of preaching. Christianity and love God as an end in itself. And it fucking turns people off, both for crypto and Christianity or any religion for that matter. So, we need to keep the "talking" and "preaching" in check, and focus on building tech and applications for devs, and using the applications for users.

No mention of the use of blockchain outside of dev posts. Basically talk about your tech about as much as Rockstar does about their engine. DO NOT CONSTANTLY TALK ABOUT YOUR GAME BEING ON BLOCKCHAIN. Advertising your game using blockchain would be like your ISP talking about IP addresses. 99% of the people do not give a fuck, and it's confusing. I get the argument for ownership, but one big piece is ALWAYS left out. Lets say I spent a couple grand on gems for GW2. But I actually own that shit on the blockchain, neat, but also, what does it matter when that game goes away? Nothing will force a developer to allow you to use those items again in another game. I know there are platforms that will allow you to port things into different games, but I don't think that ownership is as important as being able to prevent cheating, and duping items. I mean duping fucking ruined the entire first round of servers in New World, and they had to make new servers. Also, what I want from blockchain in gaming is the benefits, like no duping shit, the company being able to roll back my account if I experience a bug, things like that.

See, that was your first mistake. Letting your father know you're into crypto. DON'T TALK ABOUT CRYPTO WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

I read all this. You’re wildly inaccurate. You start with the hypothesis that crypto is garbage and fraud. Except you never prove that point. You SAY it, over and over. But there is no PROOF in any of this. 1. Bitcoin transfers are days faster than current money transfers, which are ALREADY digitally transferred, so if efficiency is your metric, then there is NOTHiNG slower than fiat transfers. You don’t understand crypto. 2. Not all crypto is Bitcoin. This is just another point that you DONT understand. There are many consensus mechanisms, and they affect each protocol in different ways. 3. Fiat money isn’t money. Every single dollar is a SECURITY of the issuing country. It’s not money. It’s a promise of debt that will be paid at the face value. And with fractional banking, fiat is THE LARGEST PONZI on the planet. Another thing you don’t understand but use every day. 4. If scarcity is “irrelevant” why do you want to go back to the gold standard? Because it is the traceability, permanence, and SCARCITY of gold that make it the ideal substance to base a monetary system. So again, you don’t understand the very thing you argue against and for. 5. Crypto has many “real world” use cases. Last month the state of California announced it would be using black chain and NFT’s to streamline the vehicle registration and licensing process. They lose a lot of money in hidden sales, and this would earn them all that tax revenue. And that’s just one blockchain in one state and one application. Again, you just don’t understand. 6. Crypto is not the pathway to monetary freedom. But investing is. And crypto is a completely legitimate place to try to invest. Are there scams? Yes. Are there scams on Wall Street? Yes. And stock exchanges are over 500 years old. Should people ignore an entire sector for investments just because you don’t understand it? This is one long opinion. And it’s the opinion of an uneducated, loud mouth. who has taken ZERO time to learn ANYTHING about the topic of discussion. So, despite your long winded attempt at explanation, I reiterate; YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, SO YOU SHOULD BE QUIET AND LET THE ADULTS TALK.

You can look up at the FED target rate probability (FedWatch Tool) that even when the "insider info" was published all the bets were and still are for a 75bps. They are beting on a dovish TALK, saying something like "we are slowing rate hikes in the next meeting" or "we are pausing rate hikes after January". Their twitter is absolutely incredible. Their official twitter (even with a blue check mark) DURING THE LAWSUIT only a month or two ago said “Gary Gensler can gargle on our balls”, also many statements straight up calling the SEC criminally corrupt and evil. They have called out the #ETHGATE corruption too, showing how vitalik, Lubin and a few SEC insiders conspired to give eth a free pass meanwhile pressuring the SEC to sue their competitors. Most of the ETHGATE is exposed in the ripple lawsuit but also the “Empower Oversight” filings against the SEC to get these ETHGATE documents. One document released by the SEC under court order (of course they didn’t want to release voluntarily) shows ETH’s lawyers and Bill Hinman (SEC director) writing emails joking about illegal meet-ups. They were told by SEC ethics council NEVER TO MEET, TALK (even on phone or email), OR HAVE ANY TYPE OF COMMUNICATION. This is standard for conflicts of interest for regulator workers. The aforementioned emails included jokes like “well if I book at table at X time at Y plac, and you so happen to order food from my same table while I’m ordering my food from the same table, I could not stop you ;)”. Black and white proof of extreme fraud between SEC and ETH. This won’t end up well for ETH, and they deserve everything bad that’s coming to them for what they have done to the rest of the industry while forcing their shitcoin to be adopted using corrupt regulators

That is why the smart ones exited before UST ran into zero. Guy said he exited when UST rebounded above 80 cents. A lot of people knew the risk. UST didn't collapse for no reason. It collapsed because those who knew the risk ran to exit on mass. Why did these investors still invest in Luna/UST despite knowing the risk? It was the stupid "supercycle theory" (never bear market again) + "BTC hitting 100K eoy" by the stock-to-flow model's predictions. They thought this bull market had a much longer way to go. So they believed institutions were planning to jump into pump the crypto market to much higher highs. You got to admit there was a serious delusion among the community - retail and institutions alike. Remember how people like Saylor were buying the "bottom" when BTC hit 32K? Everyone got delusional. The real moral of the story is DON'T EAT YOUR OWN SHIT! Understand SHILLING IS JUST BS CHEAP TALK. Don't shill and, in the process, get yourself brainwashed by your own shilling...

What he said, and also NEVER TALK ABOUT IT. Having it is great and offers peace of mind. If you *tell* people you have it they remember and you become a target of the $5 wrench attack, a whole lot of potential scams, romantic partners who see themselves taking you for everything, etc. If nobody knows you have it, it can't affect how they treat you. Secrecy is safety!

Post is by: TheFamousHesham and the url/text [ ](https://goo.gl/GP6ppk)is: /r/CryptoCurrency/comments/tq8i33/weve_all_been_consolidating_our_crypto_over_the/ I like CDC but this is genuinely one of the most bizarre things in the crypto space. I have 3 CDC apps on my phone right now: - The Main CDC App - The DeFi Wallet - The Crypto Exchange AND THEY DON’T TALK TO EACH OTHER! The sign up process is completely separate for each and your accounts don’t carry over. You literally have to send them across from the DeFi wallet to the main app etc. I understand that a lot of this has to do with complying with legislation (CDC Exchange, for example, isn’t available to ordinary US citizens), but surely there has to be a “cleaner” solution. For example, Binance has an in-app functionality that allows users to switch between Basic Mode and Pro Mode. The CDC Exchange is also a minefield of its own, offering products (like “The Syndicate,” the equivalent of Binance’s launchpad) that no longer seem to be active(?) but are still very much there… And obviously the CRO stake doesn’t carry over from the CDC app to the Exchange… I’m wondering just how confused someone would be if they go to sign up for CDC after watching one of their ads. Will they actually know what app to use and what each app does? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I want to marry this comment. I worked in non-crypto start-ups and this comment is still so true, it hurts. I got pigeon-holed with wellness companies and lemme tell yah, for places that are all about liter self fucking care, they were some of the most toxic and exploitative environments I’ve ever encountered. A very popular meditation app nearly gave me a fucking nervous break down. I know two people who moved on to a major crypto company (that this sub likes, for the most part) and I’ve heard horror stories. One works in customer support and said he has actually been written up for not lying to customers. They have a strict policy of “it’s not us, it’s you.” They are never supposed to admit bugs and they just gaslight people that their shit is broken, not the app. He quit after he had to tell a woman it was her phone that was possibly broken. She started crying that she couldn’t afford a new phone because she lost her job and needed it for interviews. Crypto was her “absolute emergency money” and she had several thousand with them. She was two months behind on rent. She started freaking out, so he told her the truth, got the IT team to figure it out and release her funds, resigned that day and never went back. I love that guy, he’s the best, but he said despite the amazing pay, it was hands-down, the worst year of his life. It actually helped me in how I invest in crypto because now I’m extra extra skeptical. My best tip is ALWAYS TALK TO THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT FIRST. That’s the best way to find out exactly what kind of company they are (especially if they don’t have any or you get no response).

What is sad is I still haven't got my stim check, and I call once in a while to figure out what is going on. It is a nightmare since their phone system sucks. To the point I was told 3 months ago to call back this month. Over the past 2 weeks I have been calling back a few times a day and I can't get anyone on the phone because the automated thing keeps saying it is too busy. BTW if you have problems and need to get ahold of someone there. This is a good guide TO JUST GET YOU TO THE POINT WHERE YOU MIGHT TALK TO SOMEONE. [https://lifehacker.com/how-to-talk-to-a-real-human-at-the-irs-without-waiting-1842128259](https://lifehacker.com/how-to-talk-to-a-real-human-at-the-irs-without-waiting-1842128259) IMO they need to really spend some money fixing this system. I would hate to deal with this system if I owed the IRS money or had to deal with some crap where I actually needed the check.

You know What is funny about all this? I can’t think of the movie…..but you remember the movie where the it is talking about all the slaves and if they ever just thought about it, why don’t they kill the slaveowners? Or take a stand and just leave? ITS BECAUSE they are trained and brainwashed (in a way) to think they have to listen and abide by it all. It’s just like middle class and the poor though! WE SIT HERE AND TALK all day about how we know what the rich are doing and even how they get away with it. BUT WE DONT DO ANYTHING! Lol Like seriously, we vote in a new President or whatever you have in your country with hopes of change, but nothing comes! EVERY POLITICIAN IS THE SAME!!! ALL OF THEM!!
