The issue is more so with the business model most American IA company have taken, which is growing uncontrollably in the hope to reach AGI and solve all of humanity's problem. And while IA sure has come a long way from how it was like 4 years ago. Could it reach AGI potential? Honestly I'm really doubtful. Especially considering the amount of money they should generate in order to become solvable after the amount of investment that was spent. Honestly I don't see how this could lead to anything other than a market crash. Even if we got AGI tomorrow, it would still need to be financially interesting for the users. But when considering the projected price in case of full adoption, it's just not realistic even in the best case scenario. Not saying IA will disappear because it's here to stay. But the closed source reckless investment strategy that the US has chosen is bound to fail. Most likely more open source and low cost approach are going to be the norm after this initial rush to AGI. And the real breakthrough will come in making IA more energy efficient, not making it bigger.
