The factory whistle blows, it’s time for lunch! After you punch your time card, your supervisor corners you, and asks you if you want to make America great again. All you gotta do is work a few extra shifts off the clock. If his production unit can beat quotas, it will be big for him and he promises to take care of you on his way up. You agree and flip open your American made lunchbox and dig into a PBJ. Compared to how you used to eat at your old IT job it’s not much, but after pulling a heavy shift nothing tastes better.

This is nothing and you have complete chaos in the us and the globe. How the hell do you think it’s not gonna reprice appropriately. 2000, 2008-2010. People got played then as well. Stay in and be a bag holder while it gonna take you 10 years to get back to par when this dumpster fire is over. And at that point AI will have most assuredly replaced large numbers of workers. Get ready for bladerunner the original movie and elysium the movie.

Anecdotal down here in Destin, Florida, where all the Atlanta people are at all of the month of July, we’ve had some restaurants close down. Traffic in cars and at beaches was off the chain this summer, but I don’t think that traffic is headed to the usual over priced shitty tourist restaurants. I think they’re eating PBJ they got at Publix. And tipping ain’t happening at the same rate, according to convos I’ve had with some service workers. Could it be that the pure cost of shelter for vacation is now so high that there ain’t much left for anything else?

Our main grocery store is walmart, aldi, sams club and Asian store. Store brand pasta, Asian store rice and tortilla makes our carbs. 3pack of pasta sauce for $8 at sams will last atleast 9 meals so, it would be 2 months. A big bag of rice will last us like 6 months. A big jar of crused garlic in water is like $7 lasts 3 months. We buy 4 pack of chicken every 2 weeks at $20. A frozen block of ground beef or turkey for either chilli or tacos for $5. 1 frozen bag of salmon lasts us considering we make salmon every 2 weeks at $20 for 2.5 pounds. So total meat cost comes around $35 to $40/2weeks. We also like to have veggie only meals every few days like okra tacos or spicy potato burrito or black bean burger/sandwich or tofu mushroom ramen or veggie heavy fried rice or chilli garlic noodles or pancakes or veggie curry. We cook new fresh veggies for every meal broccoli at $1.5 per head, $4 for a bunch of asparagus, $0.9 for canned beans and spinach for $1, 1 zucchini for $1, 1 yellow squash for $0.9, cauliflower and green beans for $3 each and potatoes for $3.5 for 5lb bag that will last us a month, lettuce head 3 pack or $3. Total is usually $25 - $30 for every two weeks. Fruits usually come around $10 - $15 for 2 weeks which includes pineapple or apple, banana, kiwi or grapes or oranges.we also have other frozen food stock like chicken bites, breakfast sandwiches, meatballs, frozen veggies, ice cream which usually lasts between 1 to 2 months comes to $15/2 weeks. Most meals we cook usually gets carried over for lunch next day. If it isn't sufficient, we end up eating PBJ or salad or smoothie or chicken bite wrap or breakfast sandwich. This is very rare occurrence. So grand total looks like. Meats- $40. Veggies-$30. Fruits-$15. Frozen- $15. Pantry-$30. Household essentials-$20. Total- $150+ $15 (tax) = $165

the shocking thing to me is that millennials spend that much on food weekly, wtf people?! Spending over $20/day on food is crazy to me. Bell pepper and onion is $1.50, pack of tortillas, $3, can of beans and corn $1.50, pound of chicken $5, salsa $2.50, head of romaine $.80. That will give three to four meals of dank tacos and cost $14. Eggs and toast in the morning costs about $.70, maybe have a PBJ or a cold cut sandwich for lunch and you’ve easily reached your caloric goal and spent probably $6/day

The **first** reason people recommend bonds is simple, Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT). I won get into the nitty gritty of it but you can read more about it at [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_portfolio_theory) if you like. The idea is bonds offer you a pool of investable money when the markets have down cycles. MPT teaches that you should rebalance your portfolio at certain intervals, once a year or twice a year or once every quarter. Two things happen when you rebalance depending on the state of the markets. * Up cycle - you sell off some of your winning stocks and buy more bonds * Down cycle - you sell off some of your bonds and buy cheap stocks The nice thing about MPT is that it takes the emotion out of buying and selling and causes you to take profits when stocks are up and then buy stocks when stocks are down. In other words it essentially forces you to “buy low, sell high”. The theory is great, the reality is utter crap partly because it didn’t take into account ZIRP and the interest rate risks bonds have. So you had a bunch of brainwashed indoctrinated script monkeys with CFP designations telling everyone to MPT their investments. Well everyone who had bonds during this last cycle got beat up as they invariable bought bond funds and as interest rates rose those bond funds lost tons of money. Those who didn’t buy bond funds felt good until they realized they own a bond that pays almost no interest but hey look at the bright side, I can always hold my 10 year bond for another 9 years while earning no interest and I won’t even lose money when it matures. Yeah that’s just terrific. Nobody should’ve been buying bonds while interest rates were 0% unless they were I-Bonds. Suffice it to say today, bonds can be a reasonable part of your portfolio because it doesn’t appear interest rates will go so much higher that your bonds will lose too much value. In addition of course, bonds are earning a reasonable amount of interest once again. If you buy bonds, never forget how dangerous interest rate risk is to the asset, if you don’t understand interest rate risk then find someone who does that can manage your bonds for you. The **second** reason people recommend bonds is to help stabilize a portfolio as the investor nears retirement. If you are 64 and plan to retire at 65 and you have a portfolio of 100% stocks and the year is 2000 then you are feeling great about retirement right up until December when the market has crashed and your portfolio is worth 50% of what it was in January. You were COUNTING on that money to retire. Well guess what, the Nasdaq doesn’t return to it’s all time high again until 15 years later when you are now dead. Well that sucked. You thought you were going to enjoy fabulous golf vacations but you ended up eating PBJ and working as a greeter at Walmart to make ends meet. With bonds and MPT that didn’t happen because 50% to 80% of your portfolio had been shifted to bonds as the market was rising as you were nearing retirement. The MPT portfolio you has a nice steady stream of safe income and you ride off into the golf vacation sunset and even live 5 years longer because you weren’t constantly stressed out over money problems. Moral of the story. Don’t use MPT. Do use MPT once you are 10 years from retirement. Yes I did contradict myself there. Don’t ever invest in bonds not named I-Bonds (probably STRIPS also) when interest rates are near 0%. Don’t invest in bonds when inflation is a threat because inflation portends interest rate hikes and interest rate hikes are bond killers. Anyway, sorry for the length and that is my take.

XLP, XLU, XLV all should hold up pretty well in a recession. I’ve got about 1/4 of my ETFs currently in XLP with about 1/8 in PBJ, which is basically the same thing but it’s only food companies. The cost per year is high but that is covered by the dividends it pays out so it’s not too bad and just a way to have some extra exposure to the best part of XLP during a recession. Honestly the best stocks for a recession are stuff people can’t stop buying (food, toiletries, etc.) and cheap feel good stuff (lower cost cosmetics usually do well, and stuff like Hersheys and Coke most likely will too as it’s a cheap pick me up that even an unemployed person can afford and get a spark of happiness from).

Mine is a boring story of sensibility coupled with blind luck. Started with nothing, sold plasma, learned to code, finished my degree at a cheap school, invested in QQQ almost right from the beginning in ‘99, methodically socked away 10%-18% of my salary in 401ks with broad index funds for two decades, tripled my money with a royalty trust that had a fat dividend as well as a 3x price appreciation, bought a house, invested in a few value stocks that tripled in value over the years in an IRA, divorced an alcoholic/stoner/cokehead spouse, bought a condo that doubled in value then rented it out, avoided buying a car until about four years ago, lived off an expense account for six years, shopped at thrift stores exclusively, lived well below my means from the very start, bought another house in the last undeveloped county in my metro area, househacked, aggressively pursued new work opportunities in sales, and most recently started investing in dividend stocks set to DRIP. Oh and yeah I still make my own coffee and pack a PBJ sandwich so I don’t eat out during the day. It is not easy but automated consistency and always investing windfalls seems to be the highlights of this TED talk.

20s are for man! I could eat pizza and Raman noodles for ever , and shower thoughts of what I should have done (you won't out live those until late 30s but the highlight reels will still play every now and then in your 40s). All these things mold you into the person you will become; who can take strife, and keep moving forward. If you can't move forward you better get comfortable where you are at. Hell I'm a kid from the 90s. I planned to retire by 35. Now 50 doesn't seem that old. I seen AOL, Google, Netflix, and a f-ton of other items I thought topped out, or was a flash in the pan. You can't catch em all. Hell, if you live paycheck to paycheck you're doing kick ass to catch one. There's an old codger name Dan Pena who loves to say "show me your friends and I'll show you you! In 5 years". You are the approximate of the 5 people you hang around the most. That doesn't mean to cut cords with people you like. It means they are not on the path you see for yourself. 20s are fun and sucky. By 23 I'd recommend grabbing another gear. Get comfortable with debt, and being overwhelmed. That's a mindset most people can't understand. It's ok to be broke, but keep your bills paid. Don't use 10 day grace periods. It doesn't penalize your credit , but it reflects as a slow pay (which means I make enough money, but I have trouble managing it). Running low on funds to pay bills? Eat PBJ sammiches. In my early 20s my fiance and I use to scrounge for change to buy a 20 piece mcnuggets (I think it was 5.49 ) today I wrote checks for over 300k to pay for material on jobs I have going on. I'd wager that great credit is worth more than 75,000 cash in the bank as an individual. At the risk of exposure. Life is hard, if it was easy the money would suck.

You should learn to cook, you could be eating good for the same price as the bowl of low grade carbs and toxic fats. That's the expensive already-in-a-bowl ramen, too, you could definitely have bought PBJ instead if you calculate the cost per calorie. Even just dry noodles and a bottle of vegetable oil would be cheaper than what you have, and you'd have money left over for a large can of stewed tomatoes which would make it taste like food.

Food and Beverage fall general under the category of consumer staples. And yes, your theory is correct that in a crash they do not crash as hard as other stocks. The drawback is that when business is booming they don't go to the moon either. The big player here is Invesco Dynamic Food & Beverage ETF Ticker $PBJ (Get it? Peanut Butter and Jelly? Its a joke!). Its been around for 15 years and has over 100 milion in assets under management. 63 basis points is way too high, but thats what you get when you go to thematic investing. Also, there is First Trust Nasdaq Food & Beverage ETF ticker $FTXG. At 5 years old, its not the newest ETF out there, but its only 6 milion in assets under management. 60 basis points makes it slightly cheaper but its hardly a difference. On the up side, holdings are a bit more balanced between retail sales food and industrial food creation. At least in my opinion.

Find a grilled cheese or a PBJ if you’d prefer. (Don’t worry, these are 2 OPTIONS that you literally can’t fuck up) (and I say that because it sounds like fucking up was your main problem. Gotta do less of that.) The keys are the PBs and Grilled CHEESES Don’t knock it til ya try it. Once you’ve tried it, you won’t knock it. Do yourself a favor. Eat a snack, jack. Get your life on track.

It's a tough space to be in as tastes are fickle. Made some good money in YUM &YUMC. But I'm in EATZ to get some more balanced exposure. Also, I like the PBJ that has some of the supplies to the industry.

Look, here is how you make a PBJ, take one slice of bread apply peanut butter, take second slice of bread apply jelly, press the two condiment smeared sides together and eat. If you finish all your carrot sticks you can have a fudgsicle.

Instructions unclear. Can you explain how to apply Peanut Butter and Jelly to hookers and Coke. Where do you put the PBJ and where do you put the coke?
