I'll share. Bought about $20K worth of crypto in January of 2018. Invested $5K into Dent and $5K in DBC. Absolute shit coins. That $10K turned to $50. The rest of the $10K turned into like $1K to $2K. That loss really held me back. Even if I lost only $10K, I would have been much better off. That loss had a lot of compounding effects that still hurt to this day. I don't invest more than I can afford to lose.

Back in 2018, I invested a significant chunk in DeepBrainChain (DBC) bcs of words "AI" in it. It... is no longer listed anywhere. So, no, AI will not have a significant role in crypto anytime soon. But hype is still strong in this space, and many projects that include AI will have a price rally.

Back in 2008, there was an "AI based coin" called DeepBrainChain (DBC). It went down 99% from the first time I bought it. That's 90% dump, then another 90% dump. That crap cost me a lot of money.

You're not getting what an inflation hedge means. When inflation of USD goes up, Bitcoin should go up or remain relatively flat. When inflation increased to 10% what did BTC do? Dropped 40% relative to the dollar. That is NOT a hedge. A hedge is gold, real estate, basket of commodities (DBC) or ibonds. The numbers don't lie. And don't you dare tell me to fucking zoom out because the price of BTC before inflation kicked off is irrelevant. A hedge is only important when the thing you're hedging against happens. 1 - 2% inflation ain't it.

DBC. Rode it to the top when I first got into crypto in 2017, with no idea what I was doing, and then watched it fall into oblivion faster than it rose during the 2018 crash. Then in 2021, I saw a chance to greatly minimize my losses on it with a yolo play, only for the market to crash the very next day. In hindsight, the losses aren't much. But the memory of that failure sticks out even amongst the pack of ICO losses I also endured.

My PFP is an NFT I own as part of the Deathbats Club. It’s the rock band, Avenged Sevenfold’s NFT project. It essentially serves as a fan club and each NFT/piece of artwork has special traits. Some traits get you monthly swag from the band. Such as guitars, signed merch, meet and greets, concert tickets. Each person that owns a DBC NFT has priority at their concerts. IMO, Avenged Sevenfold have created a really cool way to create a unique experience between the band and their fans.

Lol We don't know what price BTC will be in 5, 10, or 20 years. Pretending it is a safe investment is ignorant at best or sinister at worst. The supply doesn't matter if the demand doesn't increase. The price can go to $0 USD if people stop buying it. There have been plenty of other crypto coins with limited supply that have gone to zero so saying the supply means it will increase in value over time is just you drinking the coolaid. Also, without a time frame your point is moot. Over the past year, the value of the dollar has decreased by about 8%. The value of BTC over that same time period has decreased 43%. If I'm an investment manager looking to hedge against the dollar inflation, I'd be out of my job right now. Gold, TIPS, DBC is where I'd be hedging because those are actually hedges for inflation. Don't talk about El Salvador. The country has gone from broke to more broke. Sure a few of their affluent cities have seen an uptick in tourism from privileged Westerners looking for their next Instagram post but the average El Salvadoran is not in a better position now than pre-Bukele. Especially after the crash where he lost his taxpayers $60 Million.

You actually do very similar to my long term investments. I like safe too actually. I am about 50% QQQ 40% AGG 8% DBC and about 2% BTC. I shifted out of QQQ and into DBC as the markets shifted. I'm still losing money like everyone else but this is a 20+ year basket for me. Like steering the titanic, lol.

Do you know what a hedge even means? It can go up in price in the future but that wouldn't make it an inflation hedge. A hedge would hold value or increase in value when the inflation rate increases. BTC has not done that. It has done the opposite. It is by definition not an inflation hedge. Most of BTCs rise in value has been during periods of low inflation. If you want an inflation hedge you'd invest in real estate or commodities (DBC for example).

I understand why you and others compare gold to BTC given the scarcity and "proof of work" as the other poster below. Also, you are correct that a good chunk of gold's value is held just for investment and thus technically its prices is above intrinsic value. However, the % of gold held for investment is lower than you probably think, like 20%. The majority is for jewelry (~50%). See [Gold Uses](https://geology.com/minerals/gold/uses-of-gold.shtml) You certainly can make the case that jewelry largely has frivolous uses (i.e. most of its value is extrinsic as it's mostly for beauty / aesthetics), but it has been consistently consumed for centuries and unlikely to stop. There are also uses in electronics and other industrial applications. The store of value case has some historical significance since gold doesn't deteriorate, but probably less needed in today's world. BTC cannot be consumed other than for speculation and regulatory arbitrage. It's possible, but doubtful regulators will tolerate the latter forever. Moreover, what's to stop a better tech coming along in the next 50yrs? Gold is a literal element so it will always be relevant. Lastly, I'm not some gold bug as it doesn't really have productive capabilities by itself. If I own it, it's because it sits in a basket of commodities (e.g. DBC etf), which would be a small % of a portfolio to serve as a potential diversifier. (Note gold actually doesn't track all that well to inflation, it's more viewed as a burn-down scenario asset).

Buying Deep Brain Chain for ~.15 cents in 2018. I converted $500 of ETH into DBC, a few weeks later it was worth .60 cents, my investment worth 2k and I was calculating how many more Xs would make me a millionaire. I never sold it, today my investment is worth $4 and coincidentally I got an email today from my exchange that DBC is being delisted and I need to withdraw it.
