I literally forgot I lost money in PRL lol, also bitgrail, both of which were shilled on here nonstop at the time. Takes me back to the days of BNTY and DBC lol. I mean other than that, not small, but major scams I can think of would be LUNA and FTX for the most part.
The idea of BNTY seems interesting. Has any other project with the same concept emerged since?

I'm with you, and I doubt most investors will end up with anything but a worthless bag. I lost money on BNTY a few years back because it was trying to crowbar blockchain into an industry where it does nothing to improve what already exists. Blockchain for the sake of blockchain is a recipe for failure. It's r/diwhy status that wants to gather investment funds and be taken seriously.
Slowly starting to doubt REQ and BNTY, tbh… but maybe I am too sceptical

I've got a bunch of BNTY that isn't worth the electricity it takes to check the balance on Etherscan. My initial altcoin investment a few years ago was LINK, VEN (now VET, but VeChain was initially an erc20 token), and BNTY. One of those is not like the other. In hindsight, I think BNTY was a good example of blockchain being leveraged without actually getting much benefit from using the tech. Just because something can incorporate blockchain doesn't mean that it makes financial sense to do so.
A few grand of BNTY back in 2018.. it was eventually delisted off the exchange i was holding it at some point during the bear market so my bag simply does not exist anymore. The coin still exists on CMC but has flat lined since 2018 so not worth anything anyway.
I'd say there's still a ton of like in LTC. That was actually the very first coin that got me into crypto. Luckily I traded most of it away in the 300s for other altcoins. Like BNTY and PRL...xD

XtraBytes (XBY) - king of "patent soon". Oyster Pearl (PRL) - main founder rug pulled, rest of the team forked and rebranded to Opacity (OPCT) and it is still alive. IOT chain (ITC) - team vanished, probably in prison... Qash (QASH) - main founders vanished... dead token. Modum (MOD) - unfulfilled promises, rug pull? Bounty0x (BNTY) - is this still alive? Deep brain chain (DBC) - dead. Honorable mentions: these are still alive Icon (ICX) district0x (DNT) Request Network (REQ)
BNTY. Believed in the concept and the fact they had a working product. It never took off the way I thought it would.
I bought BNTY at the absolute peak in early 2018 Pretty sure I win if you check out that chart, lol It was the absolute height of altseason, when you could throw a dart and 3X in a few days. Caught that fucker right at the top.

Even if they don't hit zero on Coingecko, coins can definitely become functionally worthless. An old Ether wallet of mine has a bag of BNTY collecting dust and although Etherscan says those tokens have value, I could never find anyone who wants them. This makes the handful of pennies the tokens are technically worth unobtainable, and therefore without any value. Then again, maybe I should make an NFT of my BNTY bag and see who's feeling saucy enough to buy a piece of history. How about you OP? How much is proof that I made a poor investing decision in late 2017 worth to you?
I’m amazed people rail on people like Elon or businesses like Binance for doing these they don’t like. Neither have any obligation to act morally, or more specifically, to your personal moral code. There’s been little to no regulation in this space. I’ve made tons of stupid fucking plays. I yolo’d by savings into ETH at 1400 in 2018. Guess what? I learned. I learned that that was stupid as fuck, and DCAing is way smarter. I also learned that if you hold solid shit, it will bounce back- ETH,BTC, and in my case VET and NEO. I also learned that my money in BNTY and OST are likely gone forever. That’s why I avoid shit like Safemoon and Shib.

Dude, I agree with you. Alts are ridiculously undervalued right now. That's why I'm back in alts after moving to BTC in 2018. I'm saying that when alt season happens, it will be obvious, because it won't just be the good alts mooning. It'd be all of them, including shitcoins. Come on, you know they exist. BNTY, PRL, Bitconnect, etc. Happens every alt season. Of course many alts did way better than 5-6x (vs BTC) in 2017/18. The AVERAGE was 5-6x vs BTC if I remember the correctly. Meaning the *entire* alt market appreciated 5-6x against Bitcoin, regardless of what you held, which is huge. With alts once again hitting record low BTC ratios, it goes to show how much room alts have to grow this cycle.
I will never sell my BNTY. Not that I don't want to, just that nobody will buy it...

Same here. My worthless ones from 2017 are - DBC, BNTY, POE, FUEL. I got some coins doing pretty well right now though, and im about x2 of my original 2017 investment.

I have bags leftover from 2017 of a few shitcoins (NYC, BNTY, DBC). They're essentially worthless to me at current prices, so I just put them on exchanges and put ridiculous limit sells in the hope that they fall victim to pump and dumps and my sells trigger lol What's insane is just three years ago I could have sold these for thousands and instead just held through the peak and all the way down like the naive dumbass I was
I invested 100% into alts during the crypto hype season of 2017. I thought myself relatively grounded in terms of my investments, but naturally I fell into the hype a few times. Out of the 10 coins I bought, 3 went to pretty much zero. DBC - shilled to oblivion, and it coincided with the whole "deep learning" craze that I was actually in awe of. Got wrapped up, trusting these big brain people to guide me to richness. ONION - I like vegetables. BNTY - The idea was really cool, and at the time real world applications were scant so I jumped aboard. The rest, like VET, ADA, IOTA, ICX, XLM, XMR, are doing just fine. My advice would be to not fall into hype traps, and invest based on what YOU think is going to have durability and long term success. Even saying so, the reality is that some alt projects won't pan out. If you can filter through the scams, you'll do OK as long as you diversify more in alts as you would with stablecoins.

Yeah for those who bought BNTY and a whole host of other shitcoins 3+ years ago, they’ve really secured their family’s future. Furthermore, for anyone to secure their family’s future, they’re almost certainly going to have to invest way more than they’re willing to lose.

Exactly. The typical prescriptive advice with "HODL" is useless if you don't dileneate between small cap alts and major tokens like BTC or ETH. GTFO out of small caps before the bull run ends is the safest advice. Take your profits and count your blessings. Ask people who hold BNTY, REQ, PRL et al - take your profits people. I'd add to that - if you know you're in a bull run, DCA sell, don't buy. Bull runs are a dangerous time to buy and only increase your average buys considerably.

Ohhh I see. A coin going to zero would involve its user base abandoning the system due to one reason or another. Look up bit connect, deep brain chain, or BNTY if you’d like some examples.

Used to have a few thousand BNTY on kucoin and then one day they got delisted. Vaporized. Its my biggest crypto lesson for many reasons.
