Lol, where do the rewards for staking eth come from - transaction fees (net issuance will drop after the merge). It's the same on LRC, the difference is the security of the network isn't dependent on this. You're comparing a protocol governance DAO to degen lending platforms, a false equivalency. But sure, some examples are makerdao, DXDAO, Developer DAO, etc. There are tons of examples, you just aren't aware of them apparently. I've already mentioned the primary use case - payment of transaction fees. It's the same case for ETH btw. Dapps will come once there is a working zkevm. Loopring devs are working on this with EF (as are many L2s). You're correct that the OP was kind of dumb. That doesn't negate the actual bull case for LRC though.

If a referendum is low priority, and is voted fast, and has a high turnout, it passes faster. If a referendum has high security implications, or low turnout, or is attached to multiple tools, then again it will take longer to pass. Additionally, the protocol only allows “x” amount of referendums to pass. X varies depending on the priority and turnout too. This is maybe the most advanced governance system we have seen in crypto. People here should really give it a look before arguing things that are actually being contemplated.

The EF/devs don't really give any anymore. Almost all of the headlines with timelines are speculation but the reporters won't admit it. What I will say is that it is looking like September for the merge assuming no unexpected hiccups. If a September merge isn't achieved then you can count on a news outlet claiming September was a developer promise which has been missed despite no such official target lmao.

I definitely agree that ETH would probably be considered a security around the time of the ICO But the idea that it's still a security today seems absolutely ridiculous. There's literally no party that's responsible for it's value. The EF isn't even writing the code for ETH clients.

Maybe that was true back in 2017, but today the development of Ethereum clients is primarily done by outside companies. There's 5 different "Eth2 clients", and none of them are built by the EF For example, one of them is built by Consensus, a large for-profit company. This is similar to Google building Google Chrome.

How? Who is the single entity that ETH derives value from? You could completely get rid of the EF tomorrow, I'm sure the price of ETH would drop but overall the network would survive just fine. There's 5 different companies building Eth2 clients, and _none_ of them work for the EF. The project is clearly decentralized.

You are failing to address the "effectively" part of it, which still stands. When you say "consensus", it's not the same as the consensus security defending against 51% attacks. Consensus in this respect was a platitude and non-binding. The people upset about investing in the DAO decided to vote together about whether or not they should get their money back. This is nothing meaningful. It just gave the appearance that EF's decision in hard-forking was justified; solidifying their position as the governance as opposed to a true consensus.

If majority consensus disagreed with any purposal it couldn't happen. A soft fork means inaction is yes by default but a hard fork requires many people manually tweaking clients and software and upgrading so if there's any contention it's not like the majority can ever be shafted by it.

Do you not know you can buy and sell ETH? The distribution has changed completely in the past 8 years. Vitalik never sold Novogratz any of his personal ETH... Vitalik effectively middle manned an OTC trade. BTC Maxi *gotchas* are just basic information that can easily be searched FYI, maybe try to DYOR instead of lapping up whatever you've been told. I still don't think you know what the EF does. If they do have a dozen wallets with 1M total ETH instead of the 300K they publically mention, so what? They'll either fund more R&D after they've run out of money or I guess a few rogue devs will become rich off the back of their work, oh no. The ledger is public so if you feel like you have some evidence instead of baseless gesturing that'd be a good place to start. Can you prove that JP&M and all these exact centralized entities didn't just buy a fuck ton of BTC at $50, split into 1000 different wallets (which is trivial in BTC unlike ETH), and sit on it forever? You can't even prove that JP&M isn't Satoshi ffs. That's the problem with starting something new, the rich buy it before you get a chance. Oh no, anyways.

It’s a poorly executed EVM clone that showed its limitations way too early when it hit peak usage in Dec-Jan. Fees remained low ish but the chain was unusable since transactions were almost always failing. That plus the DFK ecosystem is imploding and moving to Avax, it’s gonna have a bad time. These kinds of networks have a huge problem in that they cloned the EVM with some tweaks. Now they don’t have the same engineering capacity as the EF to solve these problems and have to settle for band aid fixes that rarely hold.

This is from Terra's twitter regarding the Avax purchase: "The @LFG_org’s OTC deal to add $100 million of $AVAX to the $UST Reserve makes AVAX the first major crypto-asset besides $BTC to be added to the UST Reserve, marking the beginning of a diversified and non-correlated asset pool supporting the $UST peg." Seems to me like they just said that the btc and Avax was bought to "support the UST peg" not "bolster Luna's price". Again the metals market is a completely different market, and the price manipulations schemes you linked literally can't occur with stables. There's no reason to be talking about it in this context. Well Maker isn't a chain, and the Ethereum foundation has much less control over the chain compared to TFL and Terra. The EF doesn't need to buy other chains currencies to "bolster it's price" or otherwise or step in to capitalize the reserves of one of its dapps like the TFL did with Anchor multiple times. So yeah, if you put blinders on and only look at the code of UST then you could say it's decentralized, but if you look at the ecosystem around it keeping it a float, not so much.

Yep also no pre-mine, VC funds, or private investment. Memory-hard so no ASICs, and born in a much more competitive GPU market so fewer barriers to entry. The Ergo Foundation has ~4.5%, which is about the same as Satoshi - but the EF uses this for ecosystem development, greedy exchanges, etc.

Keep some money for an emergency fund to keep you going for 3 to 6 months and then put the rest into bitcoin. If you already have a EF I would evaluate how much you believe in it. Will you sell if it crashes by 60%? If so, just DCA, if you plan to keep for at least 4 years, then just lump sum buy it and keep it safe in a cold wallet and live your life. I see the coming years being very volatile for all financial markets so bitcoin could very well drop by 50% or more. Be ready for the roller coaster and don’t sell for a loss if possible. Prepare to hold for a few years at least. Next halving is 2024.

Nice words, too bad that ethereum will be used to defend the status quo. Ethereum has already been captured by the regulators/governments. The top stakers in ethereum have all doxxed themselves. They are incorporated and are residing in cushy first world countries. Those POS stakers (easily 67%) will comply with any and all regulation the EU or the US throws at them. Those top stakers (consensys, the EF, staking as a service providers, etc etc) will not be willing to give up their life's of luxury and all of their meat space assets to move out to some rogue country and stake for the greater good! They won't because the EU and the US are giving them the alternative option to comply with their censorship requirements in return for a life of risk free luxury. Ethereum already has 67% regulatory capture. It is game over for ethereum.

Rocket pool is the biggest ETH 2.0 decentralised pool. They have less then 1% of market share. Could that be because ethereum leadership has been working hard to misinform people about decentralisation and self sovereignty? I think yes. Do you really think the regulators that now want to ban POW will let you use a decentralised staking pool? Whilst pos coins are actively lobbying for a pow ban the bank lobbyists are already setting pos coins up for regulatory capture. This regulatory capture will be great for the top stakers and their wealth. Top stakers that don't want to comply will have no escape because most are fully doxxed already.
