Allow me to provide more details about the underlying principles of Bitcoin addresses and the specific issue I am facing. In the Bitcoin system, an address is derived from a public key, which in turn is generated from a private key. The process typically follows these steps: A private key is generated, which is a random 256-bit number. The corresponding public key is derived from the private key using elliptic curve cryptography (specifically, the secp256k1 curve). The public key is then hashed using the SHA-256 and RIPEMD-160 algorithms to create a 160-bit hash. This hash is then encoded using Base58Check encoding, which includes a version byte and a checksum, resulting in the final Bitcoin address. In my case, an issue arose during step 2. When generating the public key, the first character of the first 32 hexadecimal characters of the public key was 0. This led to the first 8 bits of the public key being 0, effectively making it a 248-bit public key instead of the expected 256 bits. Despite this, the incorrect 248-bit public key was used to generate a Bitcoin address following steps 3 and 4. This address ended up receiving some bitcoins. Later, I used the same private key to generate the correct 256-bit public key and derived a different Bitcoin address from it. However, the bitcoins that were sent to the first address (derived from the incorrect 248-bit public key) are not accessible using the private key directly, as the Bitcoin system associates those funds with the incorrect public key and address. I just got off the phone with a victim who lost $450k to crypto investment, and one of the things that have come up time and time again is how do the victims financially recover. What resources do we have that can help wipe some of the debt for the scam victims? Also, how do we kill the stigmas tied to "these victims are stupid and fell for it?" These are crimes of emotions and consciousness being weaponized against the victims who are EXTREMELY trusting and empathetic individuals. I’m more of a BEC kinda guy
I was a big believer this time last year. Staked for the Indigo. Stake ended in May/June when they were nuking rewards. Had to buy more to get back to staking level. Ran all purchases thru the card all this time. Even with the stake rewards and higher rates on other coins in earn, overall, I’ve made the equivalent of a couple hundred in rewards/earn and lost $4k in value during the same timeframe. I’m torn. On one hand, I’d like to think there’s a big future in crypto as a whole, but the level of complicated is gonna be a problem. You got multiple chains, (ERC-20, BEC, Cronos, Crypto.org, just right out the gate), hot wallets, cold wallets, wallet addresses (with and without memos), whitelisting, scams, user error, lack of transparency and even when there is transparency it’s still almost impossible to understand unless ur a coder or a dev. There’s a lot of talk about “projects” that mostly just seem like new ways to collect fees transferring assets around for people looking for yields that don’t materialize back into real dollars. (A 20% yield on a coin that dropped 50% or more in value isn’t a win.) It’s damn near impossible to make an educated decision on a coin’s future when you can’t truly discern what it’s useful for or any competitive advantage. Some people say “privacy” except you have to jump backwards thru flaming hoops to get privacy. “It can’t be seized by a tyrannical government” is just an absolute lie. It seems like everyone in crypto is shady AF. (Except Jesse). I am having a hard time seeing a long term benefit to having a lot locked up in anything besides BTC. Right now an I-bond is getting 9% and you don’t lose ur capital. There is no guarantee that there will be a “next bull run”. Regulation could nuke a lot of platforms or access to platforms in the US. As there are economic issues evolving all over the world, there’s gonna be less capital coming into crypto markets in general. I just don’t know what to think about any of it right now.

It's incredibly easy to pay the wrong person. One typo and you're out your money. How is reversing a transaction a bigger risk for fraud than having a fraudster trick you into paying them? The latter is literally what fraudsters do. BEC is the most common form of fraud attempt.
Which exchange are you sending from? It needs to be through the BEC20 (BSC) blockchain for it to get sent. Available on Binance and a few other exchanges!
Yeah but my experience was early on before I had a good understanding of how the crypto ecosystem works. Since Binance just gives you the option when you withdraw it seems like a no-brainer for a noob, BEC-20 for $0.17 or BTC for $23.00? Just a lesson learned for me. I wouldn't have put funds on Binance had I known I couldn't get them back off without exhirbitant fees. My only experience at that point was on Kraken with pretty reasonable withdrawal fees, not 50% or more of my withdrawal in any case.
