Guys what do we know about this PSA stonk the mods are pumping? Just a joke mods.
So, the business idea of a merging of the two companies makes some sense. eBay is a decentralized online retail platform whose biggest weakness is authenticity. The platform is filled with scammers and people are never sure what they are buying is legitimate or not. GameStop is a physical retail chain whose biggest weakness is online presence and internet distribution. GameStop has also recently merged with PSA and acts as an authentication authority. The two businesses complement each other in that they solve for each other's weaknesses. eBay gives GameStop the online presence it needs while eBay gives GameStop the authentication authority of the goods it sells on its platform. If the companies do merge you can easily see the appeal to the customer. If I buy something off of eBay, I can have it sent to a local GameStop near me to pick up. That GameStop will then make sure that what I purchased was the product that was listed and I don't need to worry about getting scammed. On the flip side if I'm an eBay seller, I would be able to bring my product to GameStop and have GameStop ship that product to the buyer's local GameStop for cheaper shipping costs.
PSA: apparently the "pin the weasel" copypasta will give you a warning...
That’s likely just the fact that both sides the discussion don’t like each other at all and RC was defensive. Let’s see how the interview with Charlie Payne goes what they have a better relationship. As a shareholder of GME I’m still not sure if this transaction will be good for us. On the surface the equity component sounds structurally dilutive and like this will benefit EBAY shareholders more than GME. Also I’ve got a gut feeling GME will dump a lot making the deal untenable unless RC can structure this in a way that does the share trade as a combination of options and shares but that requires a lot of work so I’m not sure why EBay would take that. Still. GameStop retail + EBay online auctions and second hand + PSA collectibles would be an insane combo that would truly be throwing very significant punches against Amazon in the consumer space with a massive moat. I’d love to be holding that combined entity I’m just concerned it may be very dilutive to early shareholders
Really though how is eBay the grand move? I heard something about TCGplayer but I would figure PSA tied to crypto would be a bigger move.
graded PSA 10 by my wife's boyfriend
If it's graded by PSA, it might actually hold more value than my portfolio.
PSA everyone: don’t buy this stock
For example GME and PSA already have a partnership and with an EBay acquistion they also gain control of TCG Player (owned by Ebay currently)
There's tranches at 10b increments. He doesn't have to get all the way to 100b, thats just for the full amount. This isnt a shortcut to that, it's just the business reality of it. Did anyone think powerpacks and a PSA partnership were going to get gamestop to 100b market cap? Mergers and aquisitions were always the way.
> GameStop buys PSA Time to invest in TAG
Cool glad to see this. My friend was talking about this today. Wanted to see it. Said they be the exclusive place do some card and merchandise trading because something something PSA and stuff. Sounded like game stop was making some legit moves. Curious to see how it plays out.
eBay buys TCGPlayer. GameStop buys eBay. GameStop corners card market and there’s GameStops on every corner. All other mom and pop card shops disappear. GameStop buys PSA. Profit??
"what synergies exist with GameStop and eBay?" I had to stop and realize I was in a stock sub and not a TCG related sub. Like, dude. Ebay is huge for collectibles and TCG. GameStop has gone heavy into the TCG and leaned more into collectibles. As someone else mentioned it's a seamless integration with both GME and eBay having lucrative partnerships with PSA. This move makes a lot of sense as someone who is very deep into card/collectibles It's a very big swing with obvious risks but could pay off massively.
I’d assume GameStop would still sell graded cards on their website. eBay has the market share and name recognition for third party auction/buy-it-now selling within the trading card space. GameStop has a partnership with PSA (main card grading service), and PSA has a relationship with eBay. eBay also owns TCGPlayer. But I imagine Ryan Cohen sees more in what he could do with eBay than just trading cards.
PSA Wheat cannot be grown at a profit with fertiliser shortage. Massive inflation nailed on. I made the price of a reasonably nice house by selling end Feb 2020. Not selling now because gains tax dating to buying back in 2020 and because I have 10 years living expenses in cash like. But FFS if you have some nice profits realise them
You guys doubting GameStop have t been paying attention and think they are still just selling video games. Gme is holding nearly 9 billion in cash and has had 7 profitable quarters. They’ve recently gotten into PSA graded trading cards in a digital format that will integrate perfectly with the eBay system. I bet dollars to donuts that the ceo, Ryan cohen has been building up a position in eBay for years via RC Ventures and may be holding just under the he 5% threshold before the announcement.
Theyre embedded inside of collectible earnings chief. Its very difficult to explain the ecosystem that is pokemon from 0, but If you had any knowledge about the kinds of offers PSA is throwing around to restock them this past week or two, you would have a better idea about how well its going.
*As a PSA once again my horse did not win the Kentucky Derby. Fuck.*
I doubt it. The only way I can see PSA cashflow being involved would be a double acquisition.
Yes they do. But I mean PSA providing some cash in partnership with GME to buy eBay.
Gamestop and eBay have a partnership with PSA.
As a PSA #6 Commandment will win the 2026 Kentucky Derby today.....
PSA? The same PSA that will be lucky to survive the multiple class action suits incoming from it's customers?
GME has been breaking into the collectible space. They can combine their power packs(collectible casino) and PSA partnership with eBay's current marketplace and collectible authentication backbone. Trying to vertically monopolize the scene. They would probably turn their remaining stores into essentially eBay consignment stores as well. So the next thing they would probably be interested in a merging/partnership with would be something to amplify their physical shipping/logistics capabilities. Seems like the least important step tbh. At that point they would control the entire process except for actually making the collectibles.
Pokemon, PSA cards, AND Nintendo. Nintendo does not collab with many. But they chose GameStop for a reason (Cohen)
The synergy is the partnership that already exists between GME powerpacks and PSA and EBay. Bring all of that under one roof can increase efficiency for card grading and selling, on top of that if he can use GME storefronts for eBay listings you can potentially turn a small profit from traded in items that have value but don’t necessarily fit under the GME umbrella. I think this is why they tried the trade in anything day last year as a pilot.
At first I was in your shoes thinking it was a niche thing and that there is no market. Then I started seeing it everywhere on social media. Literally you can scroll through like 10+ reels on IG/Tiktok and you will encounter someone opening pokemon cards, talking about shoes, blind boxes, or something in the collectible space. The game store market is dead because companies like Steam(Valve) control the market now. I myself no longer play console games and have preferred PC mainly because why would I spend more money for lower quality just to play the same game I can play on my computer and even attach a controller if I wanted to use a controller. Along with the fact that all consoles require subscriptions to even play online where its free on the PC. Which leads me to another prediction is that Steam will soon release a steam deck with 5G capabilities soon, along with Nintendo. Since mobile gaming has grown exponentially in recent years there is a huge market for creating mobile gaming devices with internet capabilities that don't require a wi-fi connection. Social media has turned collectibles into a pop-culture trend now. The fact that celebrities are promoting collectibles and there are now multi-million dollar companies capitalizing off blind boxes with "seasonal collectibles". Just shows this is a new growth market on an old boomer idea. PSA has also recently started branch out and grade nearly anything and everything you send in which just shows people are dumb with their money and will collect anything just to fit in the pop-culture trend. Labubu's, Shoes, Clothes, Pinball machines, all of these crazy things that you would never expect to be collectibles are suddenly high value/demand collectibles that make no sense to the average person but suddenly there is a market for them. There is still some what of a gaming focus because there are people who collect games and send them to PSA to get graded as well. GameStop is just preparing themselves for the inevitable pivot where we will probably stop seeing physical games anymore. All games are always offered as a digital option now so game stores are failing. Eventually I suspect we won't see physical games anymore even though there is a demand for it. More and more people are switching over to digital games over physical especially people who want to play a game on release day rather than having to go to a store and hope its in stock before they can play it. There isn't the lines out the door demand that we used to see 30 years ago for a video game release. GameStop's only option is to broaden their market.
Think it's more about the PSA colab they allready got along with their online/physical casino (powerpacks) with the collectable TCG sales. Then to add to your point on the physical drop off. The existing fraud within ebay with card swapping fake slab printing and lawsuits due to cards being stolen/lost/misplaced can be solved with physical location acting as said drop off/pickup point for high valued items. (space is N.A)
PSA: No one cares about JP Morgan sex slave, no one cares about gamestonk, and no one cares that u are a virgin larping about having sex. TYFYATTM
They’ve been working out being local logistics hubs for valuable items with their PSA partnership. This could shift them more toward collectibles. The retail locations could serve as some kind of hub for sellers.
Its super niche, is it a very American thing too? Am 40 and lived in many countries not the US. I know gamers everywhere but not a single person who's into the thing PSA does. I dont even want to spend time looking into it because it sounds really boring.
I predict the move is to create a premium auctioneer platform on top of ebay for collectibles. Recently GameStop has pivoted to cater to collectors for things like trading cards. I have a feeling they are trying to enter that untapped industry of a platform with a luxury/premium feel like christies or sothebys but with collectibles. Even though they denied the purchase of PSA, I have a feeling it will be in the near future after their partnership shows positive wealth growth. So they will end up being able to create a whole ecosystem for graded collectibles with a premium platform that is authenticated for collectibles. With the combination of big data they can source from ebay they can easily appraise items for more accurate pricing based on the search demand. Imagine getting all the sales/price/search data for particular collectibles and being able to get a more accurate number of how rare/demanded certain items are and having a single platform that specializes in helping sellers/buyers get the right pricing for these items. This is my thought process based on recent trends. The collectibles market has grown significantly in recent years and there seems to be a lot of money invested into them to the point where some collectibles are worth more than artworks.
What a weird way to phrase that. Since RC took over GameStop they have made an effort to reduce their store footprint. That was like one of the main objectives. So it was actually very successful but you say it like they were trying to open stores lol. Their online marketplace is just as established as anyone else's and they have been making headway to grab one of the most lucrative sections of the online marketplace: online gambling. With PSA and PowerPacks it's online scratch and sniff, you can't help but want to roll the dice. It's honestly amazing, 3 separate occasions I turned 50 bucks into 500. It happened 3 times since I went back to 50 each time but that's why it's a casino. eBay is a unique marketplace within itself. The bid/buy system and it's the easiest place to avoid drop shoppers if you really want to. Due to their friendly buyer policies and great enforcement, it's also one of the few places you feel you won't get scammed. And even if you do, it's fixable. We're in a new high time of scammers currently, only getting worse with AI. eBay is a vault with brand recognition bigger than PayPal. Idk I just felt like you were really undercutting what is happening here or you were misinformed.
Lots of reasons but I imagine one brings them closer to the card reselling game. They have a partnership with PSA and tons of money flows through eBay especially with Pokemon cards right now. They want a piece of it
Who goes to a store anymore? You can roll (gamble) for PSA graded cards online with Gamestop now. They have indeed taken a large chunk of that particular market share in the last year or so. As a collector's resale platform, eBay is honestly right in line with the work they've been doing.
They need a Pokédollars cash cow. Free seller frees in partnership with PSA, which I’m shocked they haven’t merged or been acquired yet.
