I saw it ride right around 6900 to 6985 for 30 min right after that huge push up after ~ 11 am PST. VIX hadn’t dipped below 20 either. I was up on the day and decided to risk some of the profit, and it dipped rapidly in my favor. Definitely lucky, it could’ve just stayed in that 6900 range for the rest of the day, and I would’ve taken the hit.

It tends to be somewhat discretionary. I try to aim for no more than -200% premium lost, but it’s never that wide. I generally position the stops so their theoretical execution is above/below a support resistance. For example, let’s say we have an uptrend (above VWAP). Around 8:30PST, I’ll look for .20 delta spreads, which will typically return between .70-1.00 depending on the day’s IV. I’ll open them, then set a stop loss for somewhere around 1.50-2.00 and play with it until it’s tight underneath a support or resistance that would serve as an area of defense and invalidation if it’s broken.
