It IS a platform for unmoderated content. This isn't up for debate, it isn't altered on the basis of surveys, it is a fact. But without some enhanced privacy thus is all for naught. Hence the efforts of developers who made confidential transactions able to be implemented via soft fork and who incorporated privacy improvements into Taproot - though there are still more enhancements to be made. It's interesting to note that confidential transactions were incorporated into Blockstream's Elements - https://blockstream.com/elements/ and when Bitcoin last got a major upgrade (Taproot) the upgrade batched multiple signatures and transactions together.  This is hugely significant for anyone trying to communicate privately using Bitcoin technology whether that communication is a brief financial communication of data necessary for a transaction or whether it is different data necessary for a person to express themselves across a global network. We had a security incident. Here’s what we know. TL:DR Based on our investigation so far, Reddit user passwords and accounts are safe, but on Sunday night (pacific time), Reddit systems were hacked as a result of a sophisticated and highly-targeted phishing attack. They gained access to some internal documents, code, and some internal business systems. What Happened? On late (PST) February 5, 2023, we became aware of a sophisticated phishing campaign that targeted Reddit employees. As in most phishing campaigns, the attacker sent out plausible-sounding prompts pointing employees to a website that cloned the behavior of our intranet gateway, in an attempt to steal credentials and second-factor tokens. After successfully obtaining a single employee’s credentials, the attacker gained access to some internal docs, code, as well as some internal dashboards and business systems. We show no indications of breach of our primary production systems (the parts of our stack that run Reddit and store the majority of our data). Exposure included limited contact information for (currently hundreds of) company contacts and employees (current and former), as well as limited advertiser information. Based on several days of initial investigation by security, engineering, and data science (and friends!), we have no evidence to suggest that any of your non-public data has been accessed, or that Reddit’s information has been published or distributed online. How Did We Respond? Soon after being phished, the affected employee self-reported, and the Security team responded quickly, removing the infiltrator’s access and commencing an internal investigation. Similar phishing attacks have been recently reported. We’re continuing to investigate and monitor the situation closely and working with our employees to fortify our security skills. As we all know, the human is often the weakest part of the security chain. Our goal is to fully understand and prevent future incidents of this nature, and we will use this post to provide any additional updates as we learn and can share more. So far, it also appears that many of the lessons we learned five years ago have continued to be useful. User Account Protection Since we’re talking about security and safety, this is a good time to remind you how to protect your Reddit account. The most important (and simple) measure you can take is to set up 2FA (two-factor authentication) which adds an extra layer of security when you access your Reddit account. Learn how to enable 2FA in Reddit Help. And if you want to take it a step further, it’s always a good idea to update your password every couple of months – just make sure it’s strong and unique for greater protection. Also: use a password manager! Besides providing great complicated passwords, they provide an extra layer of security by warning you before you use your password on a phishing site… because the domains won’t match! …AMA! The team and I will stick around for the next few hours to try to answer questions. Since our investigation is still ongoing and this is about our security practices, we can’t necessarily answer everything in great detail, but we’ll do our best to live up to Default Open here.

Anyone have any idea what happened around 1am PST? Pretty much all crypto sold off at the same time. Same thing with S&P500 futures. Much more muted though. Only thing I can see is that UK reported inflation numbers to be less than previously reported but a little higher than forecast. Not sure if this has anything to do with market movements but it's the only thing I could say might be the reason.

The Market is pretty dead and not very liquid. It correlates way too much with the stock market too. Most of the market movements happen when Americans are sleep from 3-7am PST. Global economy sucks and very few people are interested in crypto.

Saved you a click. Support for Euro Coin (EUROC), a euro-backed stablecoin, will go live on Coinbase in regions where trading is supported, the exchange said on Twitter. Trading is slated to begin on or after 9 a.m. PST, Feb. 22, once liquidity conditions are met and asset supplies are established, said Coinbase, adding that after which the launch of EUROC-USD and EUROC-EUR pairs will continue in phases. Coinbase will support EUROC as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network. It warned users to avoid sending the asset over other networks, or funds may be lost. The EUROC token will launch with the Experimental Label, designated for new or low volume tokens on the exchange, said Coinbase. Stablecoins such as EUROC have recently come under regulatory scrutiny, with the Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this month threatening a lawsuit against stablecoin issuer Paxos over the listing of Binance’s BUSD stablecoin. The SEC action led to “constructive discussions” between the two entities and the severing of relations between Binance and Paxos.

Same in Canada and it would be a nightmare to use Bitcoin or any crypto to constantly spend as we would have to figure out when we purchased it, when we spent it and pay taxes on the gains we made on it at the time of spending as well as the normal taxes on the product we purchases with it, so basically a double tax or in Canada's case a triple tax of capital gains, GST + PST., or if you live in any Province with a luxury tax then depending on what you buy, a quadruple tax. Not worth it, just hodl.

just a reminder that while the meeting minutes drop at 2pm (PST), the speech comes 30 minutes after and that even if the market starts pumping or dumping at 2, it can completely reverse during the speech depending on what is said, and even after that the market can make some pretty crazy reverses. Even still, sometimes the true direction the market takes comes in the days to follow (also a bunch of big earnings come tomorrow). Not a bad idea to hedge bets or even have cash set aside, and careful not to make any panic moves.
