Though I agree that any publishing task that `@CET` had authority on was a risk, I'm not seeing that this user published any other packages recently. Is there another reason why this risk isn't contained to the packages `@CET` maintained

I disagree. The Dec 14th exploit effected all wallets that used un-frozen NPM packages that user `@CET` had NPM publishing rights to. There is no indication that `@CET` has publishing privledges on dependencies any other wallets like coldcard. My feel is that this is a Ledger only problem, since those where the only dependencies hit, and there is no indication that other HW wallet makers are as carefree with rolling releases of dependencies or retention of credentials.

It's the same as with other "shady exchange" tokens (Kucoin's KCS, Gateio's GT, CoinEx's CET). It gives you discounts in trading fees if you opt to use that, and qualifies you for some "airdrops" You have to lock a certain amount of MX tokens (around 1k, I think?) for like a month to qualify for a bunch of obscure shitcoin airdrops. This is factually incorrect. I'm not sure why you are talking about "fractional reserve requirements" in banking when they have pretty much the same thing but through their capital and liquidity frameworks. Banks have to hold a large amount of CET1, Tier 1 and Total capital which serve as a buffer to protect depositors. These are all publicly released. In addition most governments guarantee depositors money to a certain extent (usually hundreds of thousands of $ per customer per bank). In addition to all of that banks have to do vigorous stress testing to anticipate severe stress scenarios and they have to have recovery plans in place. Regulators will often stress the industry and call out banks if they don't have enough recovery options. The fact that you think banking is the same as this unregulated sh!tshow shows the ignorance of people who blindly believe in crypto and hate the banks without actually understanding the banking system.

in MMT is inaccurate to even call it fractional reserve banking anymore. Banks can now borrow reserves to settle outflows, most countries don't have monetary reserve rations. You just need to have a certain amount of CET1 capital - but capital is not necessarily money - its basically a category of liquid/stable assets.
