Starting in September 2021, the Solana network has gone down three times, with the entire network down for at least 17 hours on one occasion. Attackers flooded the network with transactions, overloading the network's memory capacity. Speaking of which, another sign of Solana's high centralization is its partnership with Arweave. Although touted as a "decentralized permanent data storage solution of ledger data," the "decentralized" part refers to storage redundancy, not the community. After the first major outage, Solana engineers had to restart the network. In its most recent outage (to the time of writing), on 4 January 2022, Solana suffered a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. Once again, the issue was spam, rendering the network inert for five hours. Solana down: On Friday February 25 (EST), the Solana network froze, with many users facing ‘severe issues’ including disruptions to transactions and asset transfers. This led the validators of the Solana network to channel their inner ‘IT Crowd’ and opt for a total restart of the network, in what is quite literally a case of, “have you tried turning it off and again?” In the first attempt to restart the Solana network, validators failed to find the correct point to reboot, further increasing the delay. Yes, because of markets. Fridays are when options expire, so price usually drops to cash in on the calls and also people get paid typically on Fridays so they go long (because hopium) and the market moves to liquidate. Tuesday through Thursday is when you'll see decent movement due to those being prime institution trading days. Mondays set up the move for the week (technically Sunday night in the US 8pm EST, when Tokyo Market opens) with a reversal happening during that mid week range. Weekends are just a cluster fuck of Joe Shmoe weekend traders getting wrecked. Times to pay attention to are 3-4am est (London market), 7-9am EST NY Market overlaps with London (that's the big one), and the forementioned start of the Tokyo market.
