US previously threaten global trade with their liberation day tariffs, posturing that they can bully other countries. China now threatens global trade to remind everyone they can bully other countries as well. Both will capitulate in some way. US can't survive with a 100% tariff on Chinese goods. China can't permanently restrict REE/REM exports forever since they'll losenout in revenue + it'll incentives the highly destructive mining and processing to be done elsewhere. The unknown is how long they'll let each other mutually bleed out before reaching an agreement. China does have the upper hand, but perhaps the US might work with other countries to fight back (if they have any friends left)
Donny boy screwed up Bigly. Nobody's ever seen anything like it. Anyway, idiotic tariffs ,and bunch of moronic Yes Men in cabinet. If anyone did research ,they would know China is biggest supplier of REM. We can't make weapons ,cars ,chips etc without the most purified elements. Donny throw a Tantrum because he is an idiot
USAR could get an equity stake this week, regardless of what happens with China. Based in Texas/Oklahoma. CEO just had talks with administration about it. And whether you think the China export controls will be calamitous or a nothingburger, domestic development of REM's is the obvious next step. [https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-could-stake-usa-rare-150216532.html](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-could-stake-usa-rare-150216532.html)
Thursday night’s announcement was just the start. They know that big tech will pay $$$ for REM, their goal is to have maximum leverage
China has spent decades accumulating rare earth mining and processing. There are entire Chinese mining towns in Africa that China got by lending countries billions. This is not something the US can just spin up in a year and suddenly have their own supply. China anticipated the need for these REM’s decades ago for themselves and rest of world and invested heavily to get them.
These are a bunch of globalist leftists on Reddit, they would rather see the world burn than Trump or the US continue to win. We should probably be looking for a new source of REM, probably will end up having to take it from someone.
This. The tariffs aren't the problem. The mag7 are bottlenecked through AI, if PRC puts the brakes on supply, the US is economy is fucked. (This has all become a greater vulnerability in the last 6 months because of how much speculative growth is driving valuations to absurd levels) The export controls set the stage for throttling US access to REM's. China can now slow-down US progress in the AI arms race to the extent they see fit. Why would they choose to lose the next great arms-race if they don't have to? The TACO thing is funny because its backwards. If you're a bull, you don't want mango to back-off at all. You want bigger, meaner tariffs because its the only leverage the US has. Unfortunately for the US, its alienated so many allies/trading partners that the tariffs don't have as much of an impact as they used to. China is shifting trade elsewhere, occasionally in VERY aggressive fashion (like with Argentina where the US gave $20b and got nothing in return because PRC swooped in). So they're less impacted by tariffs every day. Mango has almost no control over this situation and no leverage.
What stops anyone from buying these REM for "civilian" applications and then just selling them to the US gov't for use in military applications?
A lot of China's REM are a byproduct of other mining activities (like iron or something). But China has become very skilled at isolating and refining that byproduct. I don't think China or Ukraine have a particular concentration of rare earth minerals.
Good clarification, but MP had been shipping REM to China for final processing for over a year. The MP mine has been worked by 8 other commercial entities for REM before China subsidized their own production to the detriment of all other producers. MP just has to solve the last piece of the refining process in a sustainable way.
MP has the best shot of coming to market with "finished " product before anyone else. They have a working mine to extract some but not all rare earth metals. They are developing processes to complete the refining of these elements and I expect some news within 6 months that they are shipping finished magnets. That said, there are other REM to develop still.
US going to take an equity stake in a REM company after hours
What are teh odds he announces that he's buying part/all of a domestic REM company today? MP USAR ARRNF CRML...thinking USAR calls might be interesting.
jina cracking down on its REM exports
A long read but gives an insight. From Dec 2023 http://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/media/press-releases/select-committee-adopts-proposal-reset-economic-relationship-peoples-republic Select Committee Adopts Proposal to Reset Economic Relationship with The People's Republic of China | Select Committee on the CCP 150 Policy recommendations https://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/reset-prevent-build-scc-report.pdf https://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/reset-prevent-build-scc-report.pdf Bacually saying US is too dependent on China. So one example is refining rare Earth minerals. China controls around 90% of the REM refining market. Trumps first term had one bill for MP Materials in Nov 2020 to build separation capacity. Biden’s term 2021 and 22 deals for Lynas Rare Earth Minerals Ltd and 2022 for MP Materials. Basically the resources farming stage of Command and Conquer.
Good night ladies and gentlemen. Please get REM sleep so you can be sharp tomorrow. Gotta get that REM (rapid edging and money)
So long as locally available. We don’t have enough REM to build the planes that protect locally. Perhaps that helps good wetting too. Less flyovers 🤔
If only I could get some REM deep sleep cycles; maybe I wouldn't be such a paranoid BER.
Let me introduce to REM or MORT - yeah there is interest rate risk - in 5+ years it has gone through a low and up cycle - take a look at the price charts, yahoo finance for dividends

REM sucks but I think the song says the opposite... Chat GPT told me so it must be true.
So REM doubts we put a man on the moon?
**Fr tho… does this thread actually unite to print tendies, or is it just a bunch of smooth brains screaming about whatever ticker they hallucinated during REM sleep?** Like, the *only* edge this place has is numbers — volume, coordination, and synchronized degeneracy. If we’re all YOLOing in 40 different directions like headless chickens on margin… we’re gonna get our cheeks clapped. Teamwork makes the dream work, fam. Otherwise, we’re just noise on a chart. **(Disclosure: I’m in $WEN and $SG for vibes, but $PL is my highest long-term conviction. If it moons, I’m free. If not… see you at the Wendy’s night shift.)**
A pocket dosimeter measures dose, not dose rate. The annual dose per year is 5 REM.

Good memories, thanks!
Like REM (should’ve) sang….Everybody lies….
As Israel claims there's secret WMD development sites they can't find and the US media plays war propaganda on repeat Who doesn't love a land war in the Middle East though? Lots of oil and REM too
Great, hopefully they can be the ones dying 7,000 miles away from an IED so that America can get some more oil fields and REM.
It's a lose for the consumer base, 55% vs 0% tariffs from before and China is only allowing export of REM depending on the end user and not to mention the quantity is just scraps.
In all fairness, REM are used in every facet of modern manufacturing. Without a steady supply, America just...stops.
Under Biden there were massive chip export controls. Also with the Chips Act and IRA both were focused on-shoring Chip manufacturing and REM processing. So Trump comes in raises tariffs on everyone in the world. China responses by putting on their own tariffs and halting exports of REMs. Then Trump bans Chinese student visas. From my understand, and it seems premature from the Trump Admin. China will keep 10% tariffs on American imports and provide REMs upfront. In return America will keep 55% tariffs on Chinese imports, allow student visas, and remove chip controls (which the Trump admin has already done w the Mideast in exchange for an airplane) China is reducing their currency to make exports cheaper and cutting rates so the 55% is what 20% in 2024 $$. Seems like China is the winner. Removal of chip curbs. That is my understanding.
REM materials will be flowing to the us I guess.
If this is remotely true, China failed hard and Trump won big time. The Chinese are weak and lost their only real leverage with REM processing, the US Stock Market and Military Might is invincible, there's no point believing in the Chinese, they are losers and should kiss Trump's ass for future deals. S&P 500 will be up 200% End of Year.
Flood the zone, to make it so confusing nobody actually can decipher what's happening. "Sending FULL MAGNETS and REM up front" (up front, like, before payment? Up front of what?) 55% and 10% tariffs, unclear which way, I'm assuming 55% tariffs on Chinese goods. In exchange, China gets to keep sending its students to American Universities? That's the deal? This Is like the rambling email you'd get from a mid level manager announcing changes to the company's PTO policy, not a "press release" from the POTUS.
Surely it's smarter to build and subsidize those critical industies BEFORE you slap a tariff on products that are essential? China voluntarily blocked their REM sales to the US. That is how confident they are that the US would back down, because they know that there is no REM supplier that can cover US demand besides them. Also, please explain how the tariffs payed by american companies are going to make US products more appealing to foreign customers? So far we've seen trade slow down, retaliatory tariffs, boycotting of US products etc...
Yeah dude, noted rag, the NYT is just making shit up and not sourcing their reporting. 🤣 They have an anomous source that they've verified, this is not a new concept in journalism just because you don't like the reporting. If you've ever met a ketamine addict, you'll notice the signs in Elons public appearances. You can even basically track his addiction over the last few years via the amount he tweets because the man literally doesn't sleep more than a few hours a night because Ketamine fucks with your REM cycles.
China does NOT need America like America needs China. Trump and MAGA doesn't get it. Not to mention that China is still pulling it's punches with REM.
I agree. It's important to let people, especially young people, know that weed can be habitually addictive when associated with activity (the hand to mouth gesture), impact REM sleep, impact lung condition due to combustion, effects to memory and cognition, and others. This is coming from someone who still loves weed. It isn't this perfect drug that does no harm. I firmly believe that my extensive daily weed use for years has permnenantly had a long lasting impact on my brain chemistry.
**Trade is based on trust, and no one trusts T.** Not sure where you get your news, but truckers in LA and Seattle report there is *no* work (not “30% down”). The last ship from China is arriving 4/28, and all the other ships have turned back. Nothing is shipping: no new ships departing from China. Empty shelves *starting* in 2 weeks, with *really* empty shelves at the end of May — it takes an average of 45 days for the pipelines of goods to dry up in Chicago. A few days later on the East Coast. **This will make COVID supply issues look like the good times.** Software jobs have dried up. 300 applicants per opening in high-tech regions of the US. Companies stopped hiring, stopped M&A, stopped expanding, stopped building construction. China halted all REM shipments to the US: no more motors, and very limited electronics for the US. Canada halted lumber shipments to the US — that’s where we get TP, housing, construction materials — and will not restore those shipments no matter what tariffs are dropped. Ontario halted all sales of Kentucky Bourbon, which was much of their volume in some towns that *only* have income from Bourbon. China is going to buy their annual $700B of soybeans from South America, from now on. Europe is going to buy goods from China instead of from the US.
Lmao huge spike on REM companies “should not even bother wasting your time”
>We can’t supply ourselves with enough REM regardless how abundant they are. Although 85% of the world’s REM exists in China. The main limitation is political will.
Specific to MP. I owned their stock few years back but after better understanding of their operations realized the issues of why that quarry went bankrupt continued to persist which included potential EPA concerns from contaminating underground water and fact they still had to send product to China to be refined. We can’t supply ourselves with enough REM regardless how abundant they are. Although 85% of the world’s REM exists in China.
10%? That's just the world. Shipments from China has _stopped_. Nothing, 245% is already in effect an embargo and Mad Lad Mango Mussolini still slapped a fee on any Chinese ship docking. That's half a trillion in demand sloshing around with nowhere to go. The bigger companies has been front loading like mad, so stuff won't run out until Q3-Q4. If he hasn't hard reversed course by then shit is gonna get ugly. Who even knows how much REM is stockpiled. Because if that runs out, American manufacturing **stops**.
Yes we know, you ruin your land and poison your people to easily and cheaply mine that stuff. We have one of the largest REM deposits in the world, and we can get it if needed.
Siri play Everybody hurts by REM.
Cutting access to REM likely devastating. The likes of which some of us saw during the gas crisis of the 70s. Minus the long lines and being told what day of the week one can obtain that cut off before they run out
💯 ☝️ That's why China has monopoly on it. When the demand for REM was set to explode, all western companies looked at the process then looked at the environmental clean up that would be needed for it and sighed. China stepped into the void and got a de facto monopoly of it by the simple virtue that no one else wanted to do it.
You get rare earth minerals by processing and refining mine waste, there's certainly no lack of that in the states. It's not even hard to do as such, it's a large, time consuming and most of all _dirty_ business. That's why China has a monopoly on it. They were looking for a market where their comparative lack of technology wouldn't hamper them, and since their environmental laws were practically non-existent compared to the west, they simply scaled it up bigly before the west did. This was just around the time when demand for REM was set to explode and the west were dithering over what a pain in the ass the environmental clean up would be from this industry. So everyone was happy that China did it. Even if Trump could order a company to start this very day, no REM will be ready in the next half a decade.
Not so much they have exclusive REM resources, but they pretty much are the only refiner.
No, the US has plenty of rare earth metals. REM are first of all just hard to find because they look like normal earth. And second they require refining processes. In the 1950s China started mucking around seeing what rare earth metals could do and just kept on mucking. It may well be the case that much of our modern electronics and weapons era is indeed shaped by Chinas experimentation that led to China knowing where the rare earth metals are in their country bringing them up and developing refinement processes. The US would need to sift the US to discover where there might be large enough deposits to begin mining and ensure they understand the mining process and then develop the refinement processes. Unfortunately I think the reliance on China doing its thing for the US bred real apathetic dependence which could now be a serious problem given US hegemony is about military, tech, IP, services like cloud infrastructure and AI etc and ALL of it needs rare earth metals
> How does the US not have the cards? > > We're china's largest customer. > > We don't need to buy their stuff, they absolutely need orders from US buyers to keep factories going > > Yuan just hit a 17 year low which directly compounds their real estate problems Chain also sells to "the rest of the world." The US isn't the world... people seem to forget that. China is literally the economic engine of the modern world and has been for 30-40 years... China has a state-controlled economy and can manipulate its currency and market much easier than the US. China plans beyond 1,4, 10, or 50 years; they can easily absorb the pain to weaken the US, both economically, politically, and softpower. Chain's belt and road initiative has copied what the US did in the 30s+ with South America, but with most of the world, and China is well-embedded in the ME, Africa, and Pacific in some of the last areas for REM and other consumabaled, not even counting how much of the Russian Federation it's going to eat slowly. If America stopped buying from China right now... the US would be on the losing side of that equation.
I don’t see anything in here that says Biden explicitly did anything about it lmao. All I see are govt branches giving small puffs of funding, that happens every business day with a lot of companies btw so idk what this proves exactly. Go checkout the pentagons website and they give out multiple defense contracts everyday, that’s not Biden or Trump doing that bro lol. I’m talking about a large bill/EO that’ll advance production here all while trying to drop ridiculous and unnecessary permits that are needed to speed up production. This could have us producing within years instead of decade or more. Trump has hinted at an EO to subsidize REM production here btw so it’s definitely not a “what about” scenario
Time to cue up REM. It’s the end of the world as we know it (if the SC screws us again)
So will china ban USA from buying REM now?
About 40% of their batteries come directly from China. Raw materials wise, probably all of them indirectly use REM from China, as they're about 70% of the world's supply of rare earth metals. Tariffs will def hurt Tesla.
I think they’ve basically written off the U.S. trade relationship at this point, it’s too much of a headache for them for very little squeeze. On top of matching Trump’s tariffs they also banned REM exports and told all their tech companies they won’t enforce American patents anymore. It’s the first time they’ve gone on the offensive in the trade war instead of doing partial retaliation.
china is restricting exports on Rare earth minerals in response to tariffs. US relies on china for 90% of REM. $MP is the only domestic REM mining company
Not sure if everyone's aware that the REM song of this name references the deadly chemical defoliant [Agent Orange](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent_Orange) dropped by the US on Vietnam.
Wow! Parodies of REM on WSB? Who knew?
Thanks… I taught my 9yr how to lucid but I can’t even do it. The Apple Watch app uses biometrics (rem detection, sleep tracking, etc) to know when you are on REM, sends a gentle pulse so you know you’re dreaming without waking you up. Anyway, thanks again.
> Canada will also look at how to limit export of rare minerals to the US which are crucial for US tech and car companies like Tesla. Which is kinda hard as USA does not have entire refining industry at home; most of REM are processed in China due to price and lack of environmental regulations anyhow.
Honestly, and surprised no one in this thread has mentioned this, but severe sleep apnea can and does cause heart attacks. Your body is literally trying to wake up because you're not breathing. The problem with this is you're not reaching REM sleep, because your throat closes up when your really relaxed, so you wake up exhausted and stay that way through the day. In a lot of cases, the machine does give notable improvements in sleep, and everything related to waking up refreshed.
Any miners in the U.S would be a good bet. Ide bet my bottom dollar they deregulation and pass all the delayed permitting for a lot of the REM mines.
Not really. There are two companies outside of China doing rare earth minerals (REM) Lynas and MP Materials, neither turn a profit. MP is owned by Chinese investors, so it's questionable how that will work. Lynas is Australian and has its processing facilities in Malaysia. 90% of the market is inside China, and them cutting off REM would be a major issue, especially to the EV and battery industry. The problem I see is they can cut off the US, then whenever they feel like it China could turn the tap back on and flood the market with cheap REM basically putting the two non-chinese producers out of business. REM manufacturing is a dirty, nasty process, and you need places with very loose environmental regulations to make it cheap. China has been able to corner the industry by allowing pollution of its waterways. The US used to produce 95% of the world's REM in California, but environmental regulations have basically shut it down. The mountain pass mine still operates, but they ship the raw ore to China to be processed, which makes very little sense. This storm has been brewing for a few decades now, and we will see how the Chinese flex their muscles, but make no mistake, they hold all the cards in this industry.
It's been steady growth stock until around 0.5 and then the recent pump n dump introduced lot of volatility But today's price move should be organic trend based on 4 REM approval news
You can’t build your own solar panels either. What happens when China decides they’ve had enough and we’re forced to poison our own country with REM strip mining instead? Lots of what ifs and solar isn’t a magic bullet. It’s effectively subsidized by gasoline at the moment.
15 share lots and I'm not even upset. This was long coming and the verdict was the predicted outcome. First bank to have an **asset cap lock**....this stock about to go into REM sleep for a while. US expansion on a major stall for the foreseeable future.
I have a Model Y right now and use FSD a lot. I also know a bit about companies with well developed self driving cars that won’t release them because their standards are higher. I think Tesla right now is the BlackBerry/REM of self driving. They took an early start by releasing the only thing that didn’t look like everything else. However, they think they have a golden ticket when they really have a keyboard where the screen should be. Someone is going to release the iPhone equivalent of this shitty metaphor and when it actually does drive itself people are gonna want it while Tesla continues to live in fantasy land that their stuff is one more patch away from working. If you want to ride a robo taxi go to LA and try a Waymo. Then borrow a Tesla with FSD, or demo drive one, and report back. I’ve never been in a Waymo but I’d wager it can drive itself vs. the advanced form of cruise control that Tesla developed.
Shiny happy people -REM
thank god I didn't go to sleep an hour ago thinking futes were sure to keep rippin, hopium is bad for REM sleep
I do get what you say about willfully "forgetting." But in regards to the waking alert, in my case, using my CPAP machine does wake me up more frequently during the night, but I feel more rested, because overall, I still get way more REM sleep. Without the CPAP machine, I'd often be lucky to get even 30m of REM. And as I mentioned, I do not have an obstructed sleep apnea. I just stop breathing, similar to how one might forgetfully hold their breath while concentrating. So waking up because my of oxygen level falling below 80% is often better than sleeping through it.

People act like NVDA has been a 3 T company for forever. They happened to be positioned in the correct place making the correct shovels when someone else found REM that can only be pulled out of the dirt with NVDA shovels. They are in the process of a transformation as a company that will eventually lead it to being two separate businesses. One business will be a TSMC style Foundry. The other will be an NVDA/AMD style asset lite design/engineering They are unfortunately just stuck between being neither right now. INTC will be the strategic US manufacturing asset that the federal government will not allow to fail. Socialize the losses and privatize the gains. I like the stock

I typed "the shit of nightmares" into the Google search box. Unfortunately, there were no results for that exact phrase. Given the lack of a literal interpretation, my only option was to think about it myself. After giving it some thought, I believe this refers to the byproduct of physically defecating oneself while in the process of experiencing a nightmare during the REM state of sleep. At first, I thought that was it. What I discovered next completely blew me away. It turns out that there can be an alternative meaning for "the shit of nightmares", but only for those who have experienced it. For those individuals, it can refer to the actual byproduct and its potential to trigger future nightmares. I hope I didn't interpret your comment too literally.
PFE long haul, collect div while business consolidates and pipeline returns, and comps go post vaccine-era. VALE is crazy interesting, 12% div, cyclical so decide on your exit strategy. REITs have comeback potential with 10%+ divs, NLY, EPR, IIPR, REM.

Hey, I resendle that REM marker.
The people who bring up REM aren’t losing sleep from their problems, so they can’t put themselves in those shoes, that reality doesn’t exist for them. That’s why I enjoy mushrooms man, it helps me understand things that I’d immediately try to dismiss. I wish everyone could have a good trip, and set them right lol. I’m craving shrooms.
I’m sure your intention here was to be as hyperbolic as humanly possible, but this took me like 12 seconds to find when I typed it into Google. These studies and more, which I’m not gonna link bc you can find them yourself, are littered with conclusions that specifically call to reduction in REM sleep. So I might actually chill on the energy you’re conveying when you just react to something without actually looking it up. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2442418/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8116407/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9036386/
Yeah it does. Keeps the person in stage 3 for too long, making it harder to get to a REM stage. At least this is how I understood it when I took psychology 101 a decade ago.
Calls on REM sleep. Just had two dreams. The first was that I was teacher in my old high school and it was bigly improved. Okay. The next one I met Elon Musk as we were both working in gov't cybersecurity to discuss a profile he sent me, and then we somehow buddy copped into space *driving* a sports car to board a Russian Sputnik rocket/space station. Then the inside turned into like, pink infection/Gears of War and Musk was gone. The human brain is wild.

I think I'd create a new subsection of science if I went to a sleep study. I wake up and my hair be looking like I was just water boarded and then electrocuted. REM at like negative 6 hours
Doesn’t matter… the markets are rigged. If there’s a liquidity REM to raid and a hash 2.0 to target. That’s where it’s going. Good news or earnings or not.
Only producer of REM in the US. Future proof. Currently in stage 3 to be a fully in-house intergraded miner and manufacturer. Super high cost of entry. So, not too worried about potential competitors in the future. China is the only competition in this space. Prices for minerals will always be volatile. Political climate may be a factor. Good or bad. But like gas, prices always goes up long term and will never come down. And I personally thing this is a company the US government cannot allow to fail.
There are REM all over the western world. The problem isn't the reserves, it's the fact that extracting them in developed countries isn't economically or ecologically viable. It could be 2 trillion tons and it wouldn't really change much.
Which specific REM are we taking about....
