I sold most of my NVDA shares and put it all into different ETF sectors. FNGU, NAIL (my most reliable etf), CURE, XLF, URTY, and SOXL. Have 20k in RDDT, 20k in HOOD, and 15k in META for long term.

I think that link does a better job of explaining it than the more common idea that you shouldn't hold leveraged ETFs long term. The volatility of the underlying makes a significant difference, especially when you multiply it with leverage. This is a good example. Since the inception of UWM, IWM (unleveraged Russell 2000) is up 281% cumulative and UWM (2x) has beaten it in absolute return with 353%. Yet URTY (3x) has not, with 168%. That's because the volatility drag scales faster than the additional (arithmetic) return from leverage.

I bought around 300 shares of URTY cost basis 21.38 and I plan to hold for a while. They say small caps usually lead out of recession. I’m expecting to hold this for at least a 12-18 months or when my sell order triggers at 34 per share

Need some help with understanding UltraPro Russell2000 ($URTY). -- https://www.proshares.com/our-etfs/leveraged-and-inverse/urty -- I'm interested in buying this ETF soon. It will be my first time buying ETF. Thus I have some questions that I was wondering if you could help me out with. - I would buy it just like I buy any other stock right? - Since it is an ETF, is there additional fee in buying it? holding it? selling it? I looked through the info on that page I linked above and I do not see any sort of fee. - If holding it cost a fee, does that mean the longer I hold it, the more fee I have to pay? - To derive the fee, I just take **gross expense ratio** minus **net expense ratio**? 1.12 - .95 = .17% - So .17% is the management fee? -- Thanks.

You might already know this, but URTY is a heavily leveraged version of the Russell 2000. Using derivatives (such as options), it should get 3x the gains and 3x the losses of the Russell 2000 index. The only reason to buy it is if, for some reason, you think small cap stocks are about to go up in the short-term. I would just ditch it now, unless you believe very strongly that the market is going up in the near future. If the market goes down in the near future, a leveraged ETF like that is much more screwed than a normal ETF.

Well I’m obviously trying to time a bull run, with that being said when I looked at the pricing between the two these were cheaper and had a relatively lower % gain to breakeven. I believe the IWM were like 8.2% and the URTY was only 16%. Even with decay this seemed more attractive and has the potential for higher return if it compounds heavily in a short time( praying for a Santa rally too). Fair warning this is my first attempt at this on URTY but this strategy worked for me early this year with TQQQ but I chickened out and sold early. Best of luck

Could buy triple leverage Russel 2000 ETF instead. URTY Proshares Ultrapro Russel 2000 ETF fits the bill. MER of 1.11% is much lower cost than options especially considering the spread you are going have to take. https://www.proshares.com/globalassets/proshares/fact-sheet/prosharesfactsheeturty.pdf It’s not the same upside as the options so if you are really willing to risk it big go for the options.

This. Eating full port losses gets old fast. I lost like 45k since March being dumb. I stopped being dumb near the start of July and I've regained 15k just playing with 2-3x leveraged funds on a day to day basis. I use larger capital (maybe 10k per trade) but avoid decay and IV. There’s some people that argue 2x sp500 works long term. 3x won’t work because of decay. Most periods aren’t similiar to 2009-2020. Usually markets don’t go up for 11 straight years. Look at URTY (3x small cap) to see the decay in action. I use 3x leverage during bear markets, but for shorter term holds. I do try to keep my beta closed to 1.25-1.5, than 1, but I do that thru asset allocation primarily rather than leverage.

I’m in a similiar boat… I put $40k into URTY (triple levered small caps) around two months ago, and it’s up 60%. I work at a company where all single stock trades need to be approved by your boss. I REALLY want to get out of this position, and I can sell URTY since it’s an etf, but I need to offset the gains with losses. The only stocks I still have that are down are a single stocks. And my boss is on vacation and not approving trades. So I’m pretty much holding on for dear life the last two weeks of December, hoping there’s not another 20% correction in small caps.

I no longer invest in individual stocks. I switched over to ETFs and LEtfs instead. It is just easier to monitor and DCA without the need to worry about any particular stock. I went in heavy on Nasdag last year when it dropped the most so I am the most heavy on TQQQ and QQQ with much smaller positions with UPRO, SDOW, DFEN, URTY. The only individual stock that I have is BITF but that’s a small %. I luckily had some funds at the right time last year and I started dca so my avg for all of these are low. I have enough to keep rolling them out and collecting and reinvesting. if any are assigned which I think won’t happen except for BITF I will just wheel it or just sell ITM cc and just keep reinvesting and growing my cash as much as possible until retirement.

r/stocksSee Comment

It's not that they're bad per se. It's that they don't behave like normal etfs. A normal etf holds a bundle of stocks. If said socks increase in value, the etf increases in value, and visa versa. A leveraged etf uses swaps and derivatives to multiply the daily returns of whatever the benchmark is. TQQQ, for example, is 3x the QQQ. Here's why people say they're bad: 1) If QQQ sells off 10%, TQQQ sells off 30%. Most people don't have the guts for that kind of shit, and you need to protect your mental health. The theoretical returns aren't worth constant anxiety. 2) Volatility decay: If QQQ sells off 10%, then rallies 12%, you will gain 0.8%. However, TQQQ will go down 30%, then rally 36%, and you will lose 4.8%. So, holding a leveraged etf during a choppy market like we're in will slowly eat you alive. I'm not telling you not to buy leveraged etfs, I buy them and I love them. That being said, practice good risk management and trade smart. Note the keyword, "trade," letfs are designed to be traded. I like to swing trade them long in bull trends with a tight stop loss after the market gets a nice pullback with no more than 10% of my portfolio in the trade. When the market starts showing weakness, I sell. I trade the S&P 500 with UPRO, NASDAQ with TQQQ, and the Russell 2000 with URTY.

r/stocksSee Comment

Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of faith it banking. I am accumulating bitcoin instead. For ETFs I rather own something broader and less focus on one industry like QQQ, URTY, SDOW and my favorite TQQQ.

r/stocksSee Comment

There is nothing wrong with cc. I sell a lot of them with what I already have and if they are called away I will just use my cash to sell puts. my strategy have since changed during the pandemic. I rather just csp ETFs like SDOW, QQQ, URTY rather than individual stock because I don’t really need to worry about a particular stock tanking but I give up any potential upside for a more predictable balance for passive income. I can say that I own a lot of stocks with these ETFs and I don’t feel tied down with my positions but still be “in the market” because I can simply close out my positions in case of a downturn without having to sell my stock holdings

Thanks - I trade TQQQ/SQQQ/FNGU/SOXL/URTY/UPRO at times as well and trying to integrate TA, economical news and policy info into a rough timing is second nature if you do such short term leveraged bets. I would never to advising such relatively complicated trades on this subreddit or even to friends, that's why I only advised a simple rule to follow here. People who say you can't time the market simply don't know how to do it well - not sure why they just firmly believe that others can't do it either. If DCA index is the only way to invest, why do we even need mutual funds or stocks that are not part of indices? LOL

Long-term holding triple leveraged is excellent. Most of my realized gains are from TQQQ and URTY, I balance witH DRN. Volatile as hell and not for faint of heart but freaking unbelievable ROI.

r/stocksSee Comment

First, main market is with SPX, when that turns downtrend all others (even if there is skew) will eventually in line with it. Able to identify the turns, sold TQQQ by 143 range, waiting for next turn. URTY is interesting as it is more volatile than TQQQ last one year. All I am trying to see is whether pull back is 2 days or more days. If two days, it is good, but more days, which is common, it is not straight down, but zig-zag way. This is a big hassle.

Hmm, When I look at IWM and drawn the downtrend from 6-25 to 9-2 it looks as broken and confirmed yeaterday as for the Russell 2000 index itself (feed from Yahoo finance) Either way we still have several previous highs to take out but I currently own roughly $50k on URTY and it should make me 30% until end of year.... Don’t listen to this. Leveraged ETFs have show tremendous long-term growth. I’ve made great money off of these using as long-term investment vehicles. He wants 20% in a quarter? This is the way to go. I’ve been holding TQQQ for years and it’s still my strongest performer. And URTY has been KILLING it since the recession when I went in. Leverage all the way! Now, would I put 100% in? No way, too volatile. But I’m probably about 20% in leveraged and it’s a fucking blast.

We just went through the covid crash last year??? Even URTY (small cap 3x) not only survived, but is at all time highs. UPRO and TQQQ are also above all time highs. Look at most people's options here, at 0 or negative. I'll never understand how people applaud risky options, but shun less risky leveraged ETFs
