TLDR Math first: $300/week for 4 years = **$62,400 contributed** With reasonable historical returns (~7–9% blended), you’d likely end up around $70k–$75k, not $100k $100k by Nov 2029? Very unlikely without: • Much higher contributions (≈ $400/week), or • Extremely high sustained returns (~24%/yr, unrealistic). Portfolio issues: • Overlap (VUG + VONG do the same thing; VNQ + REET overlap). • Too aggressive for a 4-year, must-have-cash goal (heavy equities, thematic risk). • Fine for long-term investing, not ideal for a car purchase timeline. • More realistic expectation: • $70k–$80k is a reasonable target at $300/week. • $100k requires either more savings or more time. Better approach for this goal: • Simplify (1 broad stock ETF + bonds). • Increase bonds/cash as 2029 approaches. • Prioritize capital preservation over growth. ⸻ Weekly ETF Investment Plan: Can It Reach $100K by November 2029? This plan assumes investing $300 per week starting in November 2025 and continuing for four years, or roughly 48 months, with no withdrawals and full dividend reinvestment. Over that period, total contributions would equal approximately $62,400. The portfolio is spread across eight ETFs covering U.S. growth stocks, high-dividend equities, emerging-market bonds, real estate, natural resources, and a thematic AI/technology fund. The weekly allocation breaks down to $50 each into VUG, VONG, VYM, and VWOB, and $25 each into ARTY, GNR, REET, and VNQ. This results in roughly two-thirds of the portfolio being equity-based, with the remainder split between bonds and real-asset exposures. Dividends are assumed to be reinvested, so all return estimates reflect total return rather than price appreciation alone. To project future outcomes, historical total returns for each ETF were reviewed and normalized to conservative forward assumptions rather than peak historical performance. ARTY has delivered roughly 11–12% annualized returns since inception but with high volatility, so a 10% forward assumption is used. VUG and VONG have produced long-term returns in the low-to-mid teens, but given concentration risk and market cycles, a 10% assumption for both is reasonable. VYM has historically returned about 9% annually when dividends are included. VWOB has produced lower but steadier returns in the 3–4% range historically, though current yields justify assuming closer to 5%. GNR has been cyclical, averaging under 5% long-term but higher in the last decade, so an 8% assumption is used. REET has returned roughly 4% long-term and VNQ around 6–7%, so forward assumptions of 5% and 6% respectively are used. When these assumptions are weighted by allocation size, the blended expected return for the entire portfolio comes out to approximately 8% per year. This is an optimistic but reasonable estimate based on long-run averages, not a forecast of guaranteed performance. Using that return assumption and weekly contributions, the projected portfolio value after one year would be roughly $16,200 on $15,600 contributed. After two years, contributions would total about $31,200 with a projected value near $33,800. After three years, contributions would reach approximately $46,800 with a projected value around $52,800. By November 2029, total contributions of $62,400 would be expected to grow to roughly $73,000 to $74,000, assuming steady markets and full dividend reinvestment. That result is materially short of the $100,000 target. To reach $100,000 in four years on $300 per week would require an average annual return of roughly 24% sustained for the entire period. That level of performance is far beyond historical norms for diversified ETF portfolios and would require unusually favorable market conditions every year. Alternatively, keeping the assumed 8% return and solving for contributions shows that weekly investments would need to increase to roughly $400 per week to reach $100,000 by November 2029. It is also important to recognize that even the $73,000 projection is not guaranteed. Markets over a four-year window can underperform historical averages, particularly for equity-heavy portfolios. While a strong bull market could improve outcomes, relying on exceptional returns introduces significant risk, especially when the funds are needed on a specific timeline. Because this is a four-year goal, such as saving for a car or other near-term purchase, the portfolio’s risk profile deserves scrutiny. The current allocation is diversified but aggressive for the timeframe. There is meaningful overlap between VUG and VONG, both of which target large-cap U.S. growth stocks. VNQ and REET both provide real estate exposure, which has been volatile and interest-rate-sensitive in recent years. Sector-specific funds like ARTY and GNR add volatility that may be appropriate for long-term investing but can work against a fixed-date goal. For a four-year horizon, a more balanced or simplified approach would typically improve reliability, even if it slightly reduces expected returns. Increasing exposure to high-quality bonds, short-term Treasuries, or a conservative allocation ETF would reduce downside risk as the target date approaches. Broad market equity funds can replace overlapping growth ETFs without sacrificing diversification, while limiting niche and thematic exposure reduces the chance of large drawdowns at the wrong time. In summary, investing $300 per week for four years is a strong savings habit, but under realistic assumptions it is unlikely to reach $100,000 by November 2029. A more defensible expectation is a final value in the $70,000 to $80,000 range. Reaching $100,000 would require higher contributions, a longer timeframe, or accepting substantially more risk with no guarantee of success. For short-term goals, preserving capital and reducing volatility often matters more than maximizing growth, and adjusting expectations or strategy early improves the odds of a successful outcome.

I'm 32 and just started a new job, that offers a pension, and a 457b account, and looking for some advice on how to best approach all of this, and also kind of a sanity check. I currently don't plan to retire early, so planning on whatever the new age goal is. I have an old "Retirement Account" and an ESOP from my previous employer, which equals about $250k combined. I also have a Roth IRA with $25k in it. The "Retirement Account" has both pre-tax and after-tax funds, not effected by Roth contributions limits. My current plan is as follows: * Currently putting 5.5% pre-tax into Pension, company is also contributing 5.5% * Currently putting 5% after tax into 457b account, 100% into a 2065 TDF. Auto increase 1% every year. * Build up 1-year emergency fund, currently 3-months. * Max out Roth IRA, and diversify a bit more. Currently 70% VTI/30% VXUS, thinking of moving into 40% VTI, 32% VXUS, 20% BND, and 8% VNQ * Roll over ESOP account into a tax deferred account, IRA * Withdraw the full after-tax portion from the "Retirement Account" and roll that portion into the Roth IRA, the gains would roll over into the tax deferred account mentioned above. * Leave pre-tax alone, and let it grow. Diversified into Large, Mid, Small cap * Build a small vacation fund, $2,500 * Start building an investment account, no idea on what to invest in just yet. With all that said, does all this make sense and look like a good path to retirement? Are things I should reevaluate? Never though about having a pension so it is kind of making me rethink how to handle/approach retirement.
Can’t go wrong with DCA… i’d do that. Lump sum is riskier, and if you are not going to have a salary, you want a lower risk profile. I’d also boost your allocation of VNQ and FBND. Since you’ll presumably have a few lower taxable income years ahead of you, i’d boost the wrights of assets that generate dividends / ordinary income (so you can at least fill up the lower tax brackets).
I (37M in US) recently inherited roughly $300K and am not sure what to do with it. I feel kind of behind on saving for retirement (\~$100K in IRA mainly in $VTI/$VXUS/$BND/$VNQ, small positions in $KO, $HD, $DE, $MSFT), \~$50K in a taxable account that's mostly in $AAPL). I don't own a home but don't feel like this is a great time to be getting into the market as a first time buyer. I wouldn't necessarily need to use the money any time soon, but it would be nice to be able to use some of it for a down payment if an opportunity to buy a house came up. No debt - no mortgage, car is paid for, and student loans were paid off some time ago.
i know basically nothing ab investing and am just sitting on money i've been saving from working since i was 16 (im 18), im going out of the country for a while and while i do that i dont want my usd just sitting in a bank account losing value so i chalked up a portfolio just as an idea, does anyone have any revisions or comments? i dont see myself needing to take anything out bc this is seperate from emergency fund, except for in around 3-4 years for a major surgery insurance doesnt cover but hopefully i wouldnt drain all of that and thats kind of askew from my main point now. 30 VTSAX or s&p 500 23.5 VTSAX or s&p 500 23.5 Dow jones industrial average 10 Gold 8 VNQ 5 Silver

Honestly, for a 65 year old planning to stretch a million over four decades, that mix is a little spicy 😂. VTI and VOO together is basically double dipping into the same basket, and throwing 10 percent into GME at retirement age is like saying “I like adrenaline more than stability.” If you’re trying to keep growth while still giving yourself room to breathe, most people your age end up shifting closer to something like a 60/40 or even 50/50 blend once withdrawals start. Not because bonds are sexy, but because sequence of returns will humble anyone depending on their portfolio for income. The REIT slice makes sense though, especially VNQ, as long as you’re ready for the volatility that comes with it. If you want a second opinion that’s actually tailored, I got a ton of value chatting with alann capital when I was reworking my own long term setup. They’re pretty practical and won’t push anything weird. You can just google alann capital . com if you ever want a more custom breakdown. But yeah… maybe keep GME as a fun one percent instead of ten and call it a day.

Lots of defensive GAAP profitable stocks with low P/E have been doing very poorly this year. Lots of consumer staples companies like Conagra Brands, General Mills, Kraft Heinz have nosedived. Telecoms like Verizon, Comcast have nosedived. Real estate has been mostly flat all year(VNQ only up 2% all year). Investors don't really want to own anything that isn't a high growth AI story right now.

You’re overfocusing on “dividends” and underestimating how nasty some of these names are. AGNC in particular is a highly leveraged mortgage REIT that’s been a long term wealth destroyer once you include all the dilutions and price declines. I used to sit in meetings where people pitched these for “income” and the total return chart over 10+ years basically killed the story every time. If you want moderate risk, that’s not it. At 28, the big levers are your overall stock/bond split and savings rate, not slicing into 6+ buckets. Something like “80–90% broad stock index, 10–20% bonds” is already a complete, moderate-risk portfolio. You’re basically at ~95% equities if you treat REITs as stocks, so your risk is already high regardless of the word “dividend.” VNQ/NNN are fine in small size, but now you’ve got 20%+ in REITs if you count AGNC, which is a big sector bet. If it were me: drop AGNC entirely or cap it at a tiny “fun money” slice, shrink REITs to maybe 5–10% max, and keep the rest in one or two broad cheap funds (S&P 500 or total market, plus some international if you want). That gives you tech exposure automatically without betting the farm on it. And separate goal: any money you need for a house in the next ~5 years should probably not be in this portfolio at all, more like HYSA / short term bonds.
It's too much REITs. 5% or even 10% ok, there's some kind of noncorrelation to the market there which makes it arguably a good choice. 20% is too much. And you have no international which is a problem. I'd like something closer to 50% FXAIX, 30% FTIHX (or FZILX), 10% VNQ, 15% small/midcap (don't sleep on international small caps either), 5% bonds.

> VIX is more than 20 That only applies to S&P 500 index funds. The value of VIX has no bearing on GLD, or TLT, or VNQ, or KWEB, and many other ETFs you can trade options on. > Delta between 0.80 and 0.95 I wouldn't use "between." Something in the neighborhood of 80 delta, but more importantly, whatever delta has the leverage factor you are looking for. Like if you are trying to get 4x leverage on some ETF that is $100/share, you're going to want to pay something around $25/share in premium. That might be 90 delta or that might be 75 delta, depending. If it's 75 delta, that means you are getting 4x leverage on a position that is equivalent to 75 shares. Since that trade meets all your criteria, you shouldn't ignore it just because it's below 80 delta. > Go deep ITM That's already covered by the delta target. In the neighborhood of 80 delta is always deep ITM, by definition. So you can omit this rule. > Expiration date: at least 1 year I don't know why that matters. If you find the perfect trade that is only 11 months to expiration, are you going to ignore it? It's more important to pay for an expiration you can afford and that also gives your trade enough runway to reach its profit target. Hard-and-fast arbitrary rules like "> 1 year" are silly. > Liquidity: highly liquid stocks or ETFs. This allow you to easily enter and exit. To be clear, it's not the liquidity of the *shares* that matters, it's the liquidity of the option contracts. And all the previous rules, like 80 delta, contradict this rule. You are rarely going to find 80 delta and 1 year+ calls that are highly liquid. > IV (Implied Volatility): Should be low to get better prices. How low? This should REPLACE that VIX rule, since it is the more general case of the VIX rule and applies to all ETFs, not just S&P 500 ETFs. How low? That's a topic of active debate in the option trading community, but a general rule of thumb is that, ideally, present IV should be lower than the 52-week trailing average IV. Or you can use IV Rank of less than 50% or IV Percentile of less than 50%, which are just slightly different ways to look at trailing 52-week averages.
Not widely available?????? Vanguard has 11 sector funds, 9 of which are not in tech or comm services, with expense ratios of 0.09% (except for VNQ which is 0.13%). This is about as widely available and low cost as you can get.

What you're saying is better achieved through factor investing. Basically, you keep VOO/VTI as a major portion of your stock investments, and then add tilts like value, dividends, small cap, sectors like real estate, etc. So you can have something like 50% VTI, 20% VXUS, 10% VTV/SCHD, 10%VB/VBR, 10% VNQ, etc. That way you still get some gains from growth/overall market, but tilt your investments to be less top heavy.

Hi guys I’m from Brazil and recently started investing in the U.S. My goal is to keep this portfolio for the long term and use it during retirement (around age 65–70). I’m currently 35 and investing now 500k USD (actually ~50% of my net worth). Here’s my current allocation, and I’d love to hear your thoughts: • 25% QQQ • 12.5% VOO • 12.5% VT • 10% BIZD • 10% VNQ • 10% VPU • 5% IBIT • 5% GLD Not sure if I am beeing too aggressive. Thanks everyone :)

Almost any post related to stocks and investment is welcome on r/Stocks, including pre IPO news, futures & forex related to stocks, and geopolitical or corporate events indicating risks; outside this is offtopic and can be removed. Posts & comments that are purely political, religious (dealing with morality), or focusing on other types of investments not related to stocks such as real estate, crypto, designing websites, or even selling sneakers will be removed. An example of what wouldn't get removed: Discussing real estate when related to the ETF VNQ or real estate bubble affecting the stock market. At 7%, accelerating the mortgage is a strong, near risk-free return, but you don’t need to go full 10-year for it to pay off. Rough math: to mimic a 15-year schedule on \~$550k at 7%, pay about $1.3k extra per month; 10 years is closer to $2.7k extra. I’d use the $35k by keeping 6–12 months cash (kids in \~3 years) and throwing the rest at principal, then ask for a recast so your required payment drops while you keep paying the higher amount to shorten the term. If OP wants real estate without landlord work, make REITs 5–10% via broad ETFs like VNQ or SCHH and hold them in Roth/HSA since dividends are taxed as ordinary income in taxable. For near-term buckets, I’ve used Vanguard money market and TreasuryDirect for T-bills; for a 3–5 year set-and-forget bucket I’ve used a MYGA via gainbridge.io. Also keep company stock to a small slice and sell on a schedule. So yes, prioritize knocking down that 7% while keeping flexibility and low-maintenance diversification.
