I learnt about it when it crashed down to $100 in I think 2013, from an LTT video. Never bothered to do my DD and I bought my first sat back in January this year. Fucks sake. I guess we all get bitcoin at the price we deserve.

I wonder if it's the same crew as the LTT hack

If I had to put money on it, I would bet it’s hijacked browsers similar to what The LTT YouTube hack used recently. OPSEC has been diluted because everyone has become so accustomed to things like saved passwords, saved credit card/financial info, and trusted devices. It’s hard to blame end users considering the hundreds of of accounts required to exist online today. Even myself who likes to keep the number of services I use to a minimum ends up resetting passwords occasionally. Not because I’m bad at remembering password per say, but because each service has its own unique password qualifiers. No matter how good security gets, users will opt to bypass these measures in exchange for ease of use.

If a the desktop app asks you to put in your wallet seed, turn off your computer immediately and consider the whole PC infected with malware. The only solution (if you don't know what you're doing) is to completely erase all drives and USBs you connected and reinstall your OS. It might be worthwhile to wait some time just in case people discover that the malware is able to store itself somewhere directly on the motherboard (very unlikely but some attacks have been theoretized or maybe even executed, but I believe they'd be very unlikely). E.g. LTT opted to destroy their initial infected PC, when it got hacked. Be careful with any devices that were on the network (shared storage, things like that).

2FA is not the magic pill everyone thinks it is. Look how LTT (and tons of other) YouTube channel got hacked days ago, completely circumventing 2FA.

I actually saw this stream happen and I was so damn confused! Then again I remember a while ago a similar thing happened to them (or another big YT channel) and they had Binance streams happening, so it felt like deja vu! Poor LTT, they had something like 9 years worth of content wiped from their channels and the main channel renamed to something like LinusTechTips Temp. I saw the video he uploaded after all this was resolved... I mean come on man, at least put on some boxers! xD

I can’t believe LTT channel on YouTube was hacked earlier today and the hacker put a crypto/Tesla Elon musk scam channel 🤦🏻‍♂️

Crazy that people like LTT get hacked. I would expect this from non-tech orientated YouTubers, but these guys I would imagine would be leagues ahead of a YouTuber making car videos, etc. Hopefully they get it resolved shortly! Nice to see some of their other channels are unaffected. Looking forward to the eventual video explaining WTF happened! /glad to see it wasn't caused by Linus' wrong use of the Hard R discussion SHM

I followed this while in work, and thought just how crazy it is that youtube does nothing for hours against this obvious hack on an massive channel such as LTT.

Scammers seem to have deliberately timed it so that all of LTT were sleeping, it was done during the night for them YouTube has now suspended the channel

The authoritarian restriction that forbids any of his employees from discussing salary or benefits in our outside of work hours was the far bigger scandal. It's the top post of all time on the LTT subreddit, and Linus has refused to address it at all.

This happened in the middle of the night for them too, so it was up for several hours before they noticed and handled it. It's spread tho, they did the same thing to all of the other affiliated LTT channels (techlinked, channel superfun, etc)

Somebody at LTT is about to get fired. This has to be a classic cookie phishing scam where someone logged in on the account clicked on a link they shouldn't have. I don't know how else someone could gain access since I bet Linus takes account security very seriously.

I love these scams. I remember there was one which hit LTT and a bunch of other YouTubers/influencers a while back. Some image sharing site with incremental file IDs, so you could just change the ID and get a different image uploaded. Somebody flooded it with 'credentials' to accounts on a fake exchange, and a bunch of YouTubers 'reported' on it (with a 'you probably shouldn't steal tho' added in). The only people who end up getting scammed are the people scummy enough to try to steal somebody else's funds.

Your timeline of events is flawed Alameda's balance sheet became public. Whether the concerns are legitimate or not, CZ then publicly announced his moves (i.e., selling LTT) before making them, citing those concerns and others. Where's the privileged information again? Where did CZ definitively state FTX was insolvent? It sure sounds like you're the kid in the back of the class not paying attention but happy to share what you think. I use neither exchange, but I would have abandoned FTX yesterday. Been around too long not to recognize trouble, warranted or not.

LTT did a bunch of testing a year ago when mining picked up speed. The take away was basically depending on how long it's been mining you man need to read and repast the gpu. But the "performance" hit is near non existent unless it has a custom mining optimized bois. (which can usually be overwritten back to stock)

He said ad blockers are piracy. Its was a whole thing and it was deeply fucking stupid. He also admitted to doing it, and said it wasn't a crime... The irony of this seems to elude him to this day. Anyways Ive personally sworn off LTT merch over it. Specifically because he made some false equivalencies and tried to compare my half cent YouTube ad revenue to a $200 circus ticket and my several hundred dollars in merch to a band tshirt. All while trying to kickstart a platform alternative to YouTube under the subscription "direct support" model. So he can get fucked until he apologizes, zero fucks given He even pissed off Lewis Rossman in the process who gave a pretty concise take on the issue. But as always anything Linus says becomes the word of God to normies... Regardless of logic.

Which distro and DE? I’m currently having issues with Windows freezing and it’s about time for me to switch permanently to Linux as my daily driver. I’ve had my eye on Pop!_OS but LTT had a pretty poor review of real-world daily driving Pop.

LTT has never been objective or uncompromised. The channel has great production value, and that's literally it. Many videos are made about the channel's clear skirting with misinformation or unfair (overfair?) reviews because "probably" they were paid, or to keep good relations with companies. Not dissimilar to movie review channels that did the same thing with Disney and Marvel years ago.
