Charts man. I think it started with AAOI making a big move, then you look into the stock, and identify what themes it might belong to, look for other stocks that might share that theme, look at their charts and any similarities or relative strength. That’s part of it, there’s more to it and it’s often different with every emerging theme, but I’d suggest looking into trader lion or investors underground they often have people that talk about this type of stuff. Right now, for example, we could have an emerging theme in edge networking given how FSLY has moved. We’ll have to see how other stocks in that potential theme start shaping up but I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like Cisco on that list soon.

Have a look at posts by the user retiredportfoliomgr on reddit - I found out about him because of BW getting a contract with APLD (he was/is big on BW) but he has good writeups on NLST. I like GLXY too. If you're buying shares, you won't go wrong. Ones I'd keep an eye on for the short term are FSLY, UCTT, BKSY (like you said), KOS, MU, WDC and BW.

It's been over a year since I left this comment, and I see that FSLY has been completely flat for that entire time. I would say that even though it shot up now, my assessment wasn't wrong. The fact that in the past month it shot up so much, means it's not the fundamentals and thesis of the previous year that was correct, but something unexpectedly good happened. If it worked out for them, great. But I highly doubt that someone that deep in the hole would be patient to keep holding a stock performing like that quarter after quarter, when in that time, a simple SPY etf went from 550 to a high of 695 which is a 26% gain. A simple passive etf. Sometimes you can make a terrible decision and it works out great, other times you make a great decision that works out terribly. But in the long run, good decisions will pay off.
I wonder if FSLY is going back to 100.
