> World Mobile is still on Cardano but utilising Cosmos.. I had to scroll too far to find this... World Mobile is clearly running 100% on Cardano, and they're just using Cosmos' open-source SDK... It's like trying to argue that a piece of Linux software built with Microsoft's .NET Core SDK _isn't_ actually running on Linux... 🙄

>Ooh! Oh my God. Going to see if I can figure out what you just said... Dude it's really not that complicated. But sounds like you should get someone you now to help you with this so you don't overpay, because you seem thoroughly confused. You pay on the net profit (capital gain) if you sell it, not on the total amount you receive. If I buy an asset for $100 and hold it, I do **not** owe taxes on it. If I buy an asset for $100 and sell it for $120, I owe capital gains tax on only $20 (not $120). Assuming a long term CGT tax rate of 20% I would owe $4 in Capital Gains tax on that $120 sale ($20 net gain). If I buy an asset for $100 and sell it for $95, I do **not** owe any capital gains tax at all (I sold for a loss) You have to know your cost basis. If you got $43K in receipts in 2021, what was your cost basis? (Whether you bought it in 2017, 2019 or whenever). If you held for more than 1 year that is long term and the tax rate is actually lower (around 20% IIRC), but again, *you only owe taxes on the NET GAIN not on the total revenue.*

That's not entirely true... there is always an opposite side to the long (buy) futures contract, and most market makers don't take naked positions, and especially not naked short positions on BTC... so the market makers tend to NET all their longs and shorts, and then go buy or sell actual bitcoin so that they are "market neutral". They make their money on the bid/ask spreads in the futures exchange. Mostly. Until some bank market making desk thinks they're a prop desk, gets clever, and massively shorts oil at 60. Or Credit Default Swaps. Or Nikkei futures. Or whatnot.

Who says I'm not a software engineer? (hint: I am) Use Linux if you truly want no bloatware. Windows is literally only good for gaming and supporting legacy applications that are using Winforms, WPF, or other proprietary Windows only crap. You don't even need Windows to do .NET development anymore. And any software engineer that suggests it's okay to use a 12 year old OS that's past its end of life date (thus no longer receiving security updates) is just proving my point.

Thanks for the reminder, thanks for sharing. <off-topic> It's been a while since I haven't seen a developer running Windows, everyone in my office is either macOS or Linux. Are your developing applications targeting specifically Microsoft OS using something like C#/.NET? If not, have you considered running Linux or macOS? It's been a while that I haven't used Microsoft OS and I honestly think Microsoft improved in a lot of ways, but still I can't help to think Linux-based would be superior OS for "power-users" like you </off-topic>

# Bitcoin - the coin that started it all. (1/2) Bitcoin was invented in 2008 by an unknown person, or group of people, under the pseudonym [Satoshi Nakamoto.](https://www.economist.com/the-economist-explains/2015/11/02/who-is-satoshi-nakamoto) The currency [began use in 2009](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/10/10/the-crypto-currency) when its implementation was released as open-source software. Bitcoin itself is often referred to as the 'founding father' of cryptocurrencies, and, like any other cryptocurrency, can be sent between users on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network [without the need for intermediaries.](https://www.fincen.gov/sites/default/files/2016-08/20131118.pdf) Transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and [recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain.](https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Bitcoin) Network validators, whom are often referred to as miners, [participate in the SHA-256d-based Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism to determine the next global state of the blockchain.](https://research.binance.com/en/projects/bitcoin) Over the 11 years since it was launched, Bitcoin's price has increased by more than 4,000,000,000%, or 4 billion percent, since its very first transaction in 2010 - when 2 pizzas were bought with 10,000 BTC. Of course, it's currently the best performing investment of the decade. Unfortunately, since Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency and thus a 'prototype', it possesses a number of inherent flaws - especially compared to other cryptocurrencies. These flaws include: # Adoption in El Salvador is largely regarded as a failure * Bitcoin has certainly [not been well received](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/07/world/americas/el-salvador-bitcoin.html) in El Salvador. * In fact, various monetary authorities has [recommended against](https://www.ft.com/content/c36c45d2-1100-4756-a752-07a217b2bde0) the decision to use BTC as legal tender. * The World Bank has refused to help with El Salvador’s bitcoin rollout and the IMF has previously warned of [“macroeconomic, financial and legal issues that require very careful analysis”.](https://www.imf.org/en/News/Articles/2021/06/10/tr061021-transcript-of-imf-press-briefing%C2%A0) * Domestic residents have been [holding protests against Bitcoin,](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-58579415) while a [recent survey revealed that they wanted a choice of whether to use Bitcoin or not](https://protos.com/el-salvador-bitcoin-chamber-of-commerce-poll-majority-want-choice/) \- a choice they aren't allowed to make. * If President Bukele made the Bitcoin decision for the good of his people, he should at least consider their viewpoints. * International markets also are unenthusiastic - Moody’s [downgraded El Salvador’s debt](https://www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-downgrades-El-Salvadors-rating-to-Caa1-maintains-negative-outlook--PR_450956) in July, and [S&P could follow suit](https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/el-salvadors-bitcoin-adoption-has-immediate-implications-rating-sp-global-2021-09-16/). * Additionally, the spread between the interest rate that the government must pay on its debt and the US Treasury rate [has increased sharply](https://cbonds.com/indexes/Cbonds-El-Salvador-Sovereign-Eurobond-T-spread-Ind/) since [the plan to 'bitcoinize' was first announced in June.](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/sep/24/el-salvador-adoption-of-bitcoin-as-legal-tender-is-pure-folly) * Another disadvantage is that even the digitally savvy run the risk of [forgetting passwords and losing their bitcoin.](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/13/business/tens-of-billions-worth-of-bitcoin-have-been-locked-by-people-who-forgot-their-key.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/13/business/tens-of-billions-worth-of-bitcoin-have-been-locked-by-people-who-forgot-their-key.html) And at least half of El Salvador’s population [have no access to the internet](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS) in the first place. * On the day of its launch, the website of the e-wallet Chivo (the government's official Bitcoin wallet) [crashed](https://news.sky.com/story/el-salvadors-national-bitcoin-system-crashes-as-cryptocurrency-becomes-legal-tender-12401342). Meanwhile, the dollar value of the cryptocurrency [traded down as much as 17%.](https://www.wsj.com/articles/el-salvadors-bitcoin-scam-dollar-crypto-currency-monetary-policy-11631470517) * Chivo itself is a [government-sponsored enterprise](https://elfaro.net/es/202109/el_salvador/25707/Chivo-es-una-empresa-privada-financiada-con-fondos-p%EF%BF%BD%EF%BF%BDblicos.htm) with little transparency. * If other countries choose to follow El Salvador's path, they will inevitably face the same issues. ***Consequently, it can be concluded that this is a result of Bitcoin's inherent unusability as legal tender.*** # BTC is extremely detrimental to the environment * Over the last years, with the price of Bitcoin reaching new highs, the attractiveness of mining Bitcoin has caused the total energy consumption of the Bitcoin network [to grow to epic proportions.](https://youmatter.world/en/bitcoin-bad-environment-impact/) * According to the [Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index](https://cbeci.org/cbeci/comparisons), Bitcoin's energy consumption lies at around \~133.68 TWh per year. Of course, this changes based on network usage & other variables. * That makes Bitcoin’s impact on the environment equivalent to a country like Sweden, Poland, Malaysia, or Argentina. * If it were to be analysed from another angle, [a single Bitcoin transaction emits 866.12 kgCO2](https://digiconomist.net/bitcoin-energy-consumption), or the equivalent of the carbon footprint of 1,919,613 VISA transactions or 144,353 hours of watching Youtube. * Meanwhile, a single transaction also: * Consumes 1823.40 kWh of electricity - equivalent to the power consumption of an average U.S. household over 62.50 days. * Produces 253.30 grams of electronic waste - equivalent to the weight of 1.54 iPhone 12s or 0.52 iPads. * This environmental effect was quantified by [a study](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41558-018-0321-8.epdf) which stated that **Bitcoin (by itself) can raise global warming above 2\* C.** # BTC's technical attributes are unremarkable Each of Bitcoin's distinguishing features are simply lacking in innovation and are done better by other cryptocurrencies. Specifically, these features include: **Transaction Fees** * The median BTC transaction fee currently stands at around [22,848 satoshis per transaction](https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/), which is equivalent to [\~$9.95](https://awebanalysis.com/en/convert-satoshi-to-dollar-usd/). * There are [some ways to reduce this](https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2021/02/26/a-guide-to-saving-on-bitcoins-high-transaction-fees/), such as: * Setting a lower fee, but this comes at the cost of drastically increasing your transaction time. * Using the Lightning Network. However, this is still in development and only a few parties have LN channels open. This severely restricts the utility of your BTC. * Use wallets with scaling technology, such as SegWit or bech32. While SegWit is widely utilised, bech32 is quite obscure and is rarely used for transactions. * Unfortunately, since only a few wallet providers & retailers accept these methods, you're most likely stuck with the $10 transaction fees. * But why should you pay so much when you can use NANO or IOTA for no fees whatsoever? **Transaction Times** * BTC transaction times have been rising recently and now [stand at \~31 minutes per transaction](https://ycharts.com/indicators/bitcoin_average_confirmation_time) for 10 network confirmations - but exchanges often require many more, which can bring the times up to an hour. * Of course, this varies wildly based upon network usage and was once as high as 50 hours (!) in May this year. * These transaction times are highly impractical and make BTC useless for real-word usage. * Once again, this can be compared to NANO and IOTA, which complete transactions in 5-10 seconds. **Transactions per second** * Bitcoin can only handle [3.3 to 7 transactions per second (cannot be scaled easily)](https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Bitcoin_scalability_problem), which is nothing compared to Visa's 1000-1500 tps. * Imagine using BTC in a real-world scenario, but instead, there can only be 7 payments occurring at any given time. This, too, is highly impractical. * Meanwhile, this is beaten by nearly every crypto, including [ParallelChain 2.0](https://cointelegraph.com/news/this-blockchain-can-scale-to-100-000-tps-here-s-what-that-would-mean-for-you), which is able to handle up to 200,000 transactions per second. **Anonymity** * Every BTC transaction can be viewed & tracked [online](https://blockchair.com/bitcoin), which completely nullifies user privacy. * Alternatives like Monero and Zcash offer full privacy & untraceability. # 'Overvalued' * Bitcoin's market cap is [$820 billion](https://coinmarketcap.com/), which means that it has lesser room to grow in price. * From a monetary standpoint, it is better to invest in alternatives with a lower market cap. In conclusion, Bitcoin's abundant flaws make it unsuitable as a replacement to fiat (or any other cryptocurrency, for that matter).

I'm from the UK and as I understand it, you pay tax on your NET gains after a tax free allowance (currently £12300). i.e. if profit MINUS losses are greater than £12300 then you pay tax on the amount above this. You can also offset any losses from the previous 6 years From HMRC "When you report a loss, the amount is deducted from the gains you made in the same tax year. If your total taxable gain is still above the tax-free allowance, you can deduct unused losses from previous tax years. If they reduce your gain to the tax-free allowance, you can carry forward the remaining losses to a future tax year."

EOS had a whole bunch of reasons for why it failed that don't apply to Solana. For example, they had this whole janky system of staking RAM, CPU, and NET that made simple payments difficult to perform for the non-technically savvy. The founders/foundation also kind of just left. For concerns about centralization, Eth has a Nakamoto coefficient of 34 ([https://twitter.com/vitalikbuterin/status/1333738057162362880?lang=en](https://twitter.com/vitalikbuterin/status/1333738057162362880?lang=en)), which could be better or worse now that it's been a few months. Solana has a coefficient of 19. The difference is significant, but it's not something insane such that Solana could never catch up to Ethereum. The specs are at the highest end of consumer/enthusiast components, or the bottom end of server infra. Could be even cheaper if spun up on a cloud instance. It would be nice to have a lower barrier to entry, but I've never really known anyone doing mining on "everyday-people" rigs.

Was surprised by this very impressive & unlikely number. Can see it being called out as nonsense here. Went digging to see what methodology came to this result. No source on the article but a brief Google found that it is this that is being quoted. [https://dvh1deh6tagwk.cloudfront.net/finder-us/wp-uploads/sites/5/2021/06/Crypto\_Adoption\_final-compressed-1.pdf](https://dvh1deh6tagwk.cloudfront.net/finder-us/wp-uploads/sites/5/2021/06/Crypto_Adoption_final-compressed-1.pdf) The sample size is a bit weak in my opinion. 2511 respondents to a Google form is probably not an adequate sample size to extrapolate out data on a population of 1,366,000,000 haha. This would be the same as drawing conclusions on the entire UK population from a sample of 122 responses whereas the UK sample size was actually 2000. So if this was deemed a reasonable sample:population ratio for the UK to draw conclusions from, perhaps the same ratio would have been appropriate for more densely populated countries to get equally representative data points. This would have required 16x more data for India, 41000 surveys. Pretty intense sampling bias too. Responses gathered via Google form. Which I'm sure isn't likely to entirely disregard a large chunk of the population or anything. [https://services.google.com/fh/files/misc/white\_paper\_how\_google\_surveys\_works.pdf](https://services.google.com/fh/files/misc/white_paper_how_google_surveys_works.pdf) This is how Google surveys works, which was used by the study. Makes it clear that indeed the sample is drawn from 18+ internet users. So we have established that the sample only represents adult, internet users. Which looks like it was just.. [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS?end=2018&locations=IN&start=2015](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS?end=2018&locations=IN&start=2015) ..20% of the population in 2018 I am also of the opinion that being known as a tech oriented country, & we're already only sampling internet users, a bit subjective but I feel like owning crypto may well be considered a status symbol & I doubt all of the responses were the complete truth Disregarding that last part though. If I've understood the methodology of the study correctly & not made any false assumptions it is not 30% of the population of India that owns crypto. More like 30% of the adult internet users in India claim to own crypto. Which is 30% of 20% of 1,366,000,000 -> \~82M = \~6% So assuming all responses were honest. It's actually only about 6% of the population of India claiming to hold crypto. That was fun :P

The coin is IN TEST NET. Forced to watch ads HAHAHA YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF IN THE OPTIONS. Completely optional and helping to support development The people saying 100 per coin are fucking delusional. It's built using stellar protocol, so it's fast and cheap. The amount of users for it's time in just test net are staggering. Currently it's estimated that 100m individuals own BTC. Right now, in TEST NET, there are over 23 million individual pi users which have passed initial kyc and use pi daily. Once main net hits, international passports will be required to claim the pi earned during test net. And then the MINING HALTS to a very insignificant fraction. Only what's been mined during test net will ever be in existence. Any exchanges listing it are going to have to get it from people that already have it. So in 2 years, they have adoption at 1 / 4 of what BTC has after 12 years.... And it's just test net. The wallet works beautifully. Browser is dandy. Ecosystem currently in development, with use cases supposedly far reaching different product markets as well as regional markets. Users in something like 160 countries speaking 31 different languages have been utilizing pi during test net, which means the market is built strong even before release. The fact that not just any schmoe can get pi is a good thing. Internal passport requirements for claiming any pi mined shows security among users, because from what I see, not just anyone 1) has the money to obtain a passport 2) has no outstanding criminal activity, or felonious reports according to jurisdiction. I arrived late to this party, did my thorough research and found some dirt, but nothing showing me its an outright scam. 2 things that were a little concerning was finding a holding account on an official document, which is linked to the cayman islands. An area notorious for money laundering and tax evasion. And the lawsuit filed by a previous partner, regarding being allegedly forced out through the constant fighting among the other two founding members who happened to be a couple. That was thrown out by the presiding judge, and what I found during that inquiry was the remaining couple used 500k of their own money to replace the departing members contribution and continue development without him. If anyone else has done diligence with Pi or it's founders, please post your findings here.

For me, it would be Verus Coin. I know this will likely get lost in the sea of everyone else's shills. When I discovered Verus, I didn't have an idea how profound what they were trying to do really was, but as I peeled back the layers, I began to see how each idea built upon another and tried to fix many things wrong with crypto. To start off with, it is a UTXO blockchain that was forked from Komodo (with was previously forked from zCash, and forked from Bitcoin) so with that it brings with it delayed proof of work, smart transactions, and privacy capabilities. The lead developer on the project is Michael Toutonghi, a former vice president of Microsoft, one of the two named founders of .NET for Windows and the guy that brought multithreading to Windows 95; this mattered to me not just because of his pedigree, but because I knew it wasn't a scam or rugpull like a good portion of the environment is today. It was also fair launched with no ICO, no Pre-mine and no developer fees, so I felt more comfortable that these guys were in it to truly build something they believed in. The Verus team created VerusHash (currently v2.2), a CPU mineable consensus algorithm that gives everyone a level playing field. This allowed anyone the opportunity to get involved, even with ARM / PI / ROCK64s. I saw someone build a mining rig comprised of dozens of old cell phones. The blockchain is a 50% proof of work, and 50% proof of stake and part of the overall Verus Proof of Power, which is verifiably 51% hash attack resistant. VerusID has been around for a few years on their main-net and allowed name reservations as a reserved identity / address within the protocol. This was the first self-sovereign, decentralized identity system of its kinds when it was introduced. Built into that ID system was the ability to revoke and recover your funds if your keys ever became compromised or lost using a different pre-setup identity; you could stop your funds from being spent and move them over to a different ID. As the development continued, I watched closed learning more and more about crypto, going from a casual follower, to a avid discord reader, and then to tweeting or commenting about it. I am nothing more than a community member of the project but I truly like where the next step takes us. In their test-net now is something called Public Blockchain as a Service, this allows individuals to spin up their own token, or even their only fully functional interoperable blockchain with a few clicks of a button or command line string, with no other programming required. This opens up for other developers to build onto the blockchain with ease, and helps with companies looking to do things in the blockchain world without much barrier to entry with all the benefits of Verus coming along with it, building out Layer 1 DeFi. There is an upcoming Ethereum bridge that will allow ETH and ERC-20 tokens to flow across. There is a time locked vault currently being tested in testnet. It will allow Verus (and vETH etc) to be locked away in the vault. This helps to protect and give a time buffer in case your keys are compromised, you'll be quick to notice your vault was unlocked. You can even revoke and recover while in the vault, as well as stake your coin. Once the PBaaS chains start kicking off, the chains within the network are merge-minable up to 22 different chains on the same CPU hash power. Valu is a company that either partnered or teamed with them on development of an app that will allow direct fiat onramps into Verus. As a result, this is an exciting piece that will make things a lot easier getting in and out of Verus, but it means that not much effort has been made to get them listed on a number of exchanges, so they're only been listed on Safe Trade, Bithumb Global, and were previously listed on Altbits(?) until that exchange got hacked. I am truly surprised that this coin doesn't have more notoriety, but I think that day will come as things start rolling out of Test-net and proven to be as amazing as claimed. Now, let me take my cheerleading uniform off, I also love $ARRR, but that write-up is for another day.

I was under the impression that the ERC-20 converter was still in development ( source: Charles ) and IELE and KEVM development is on hold ( stated on Cardanos website https://roadmap.cardano.org/en/goguen/ So I don’t know if this is a good example of migration. + about singularity/NET : The old AGI ERC-20 token will remain on Ethereum, with users being able to swap back and forth between AGI ERC-20 and AGI-ADA. And also, carefull with the Ethiopia story, the deal is not executed yet. And having a deal with a country where there is a civil war going on, and there are concerns the government is planning a genocide for the 5 million Tigre people ( coincidence? ) … is not something I would see as a good thing.

No. The clean energy FUD was the excuse, but it wasn't the cause. The simple truth is that the market had gotten way too frothy and was being boosted by insane amounts of leverage by mid-April. You don't have to look any further than the explosion of DOGE and SHIB and all the other shitcoins for proof of that. Beginning in mid-April, whales started moving massive amounts of BTC back onto the exchanges to the tune of 150K+ **NET** because they saw it happening. All it was going to take was just one domino being knocked over, and the whole thing was going to come tumbling down. Elon's tweet was used as an excuse to do what had been coming to a head long before that anyway. Then the Chinese miner stuff came along just as the market was seeming to bottom out and kind of kicked the market while it was down. So it has taken time for the hash rate to start recovering and for the market to absorb all those excess Bitcoin. And what we're seeing now is the result. The difference this time is that leverage is **significantly** lower and the fear of yet another "Chinese crackdown on crypto" is gone.

You are not quite correct on the $3,000 limit on capital loss. The $3,000 limit only applies when you have a NET loss on the year. So if you are -$20,000 net on all your transactions for the year, you can only claim a $3,000 loss. Any loss in excess of that $3,000 limit can be applied to the following years taxes. Since the $3,000 limit only applies to an annual net loss...You could have transactions that total up to be +$40,000 in gains and -$20,000 in losses. You would only owe tax on that $20,000 net gain. In summary, number of transactions do not matter as long as you track all of them. You pay tax on the total net gain over the year. If you are negative on the year, you can claim a $3,000 loss on your tax returns.

> Do you understand that ETH burn per block of above 2 ETH doesn’t mean that ETH deflated for that block, because you aren’t factoring ETH 2.0 staking rewards? It's SIMPLE FUCKING MATH dude, look: +2 ETH issued, -2.01 ETH burned, NET RESULT -.01 ETH. *MINUS* ZERO POINT ZERO ONE ETHER. > Also, do you understand that I never said any one particular block wouldn’t be deflationary? Because you have not clue one as to how blockchains actually work, obviously you would get out your box of BIG BOY Crayolas to fix the Mona Lisa. Straight up fucking invertebrate. > What I said was that from the launch of EIP 1559 through the merge, ETH would NOT net-deflate. Because you're so stupid that you think you can predict global blockspace demand from now until probably next year while simultaneously ignoring that several blocks are burning more ETH than issuing *right fucking now*. > You thought it would because you thought average gas price would be sky high through then, which clearly it’s not. You can't point out a single word in a single sentence I've written which supports this totally fabricated position that seems to have come straight from your ass.

r/CryptoCurrencySee Comment

Caution, we're getting into some opinion based meat here with this response but it being NET deflationary is dependent on the block reward being lower than the burnt base fee. ETH would end up being inflationary and deflationary depending. But since inflation is capped at like I think 1.5%? It won't matter. After all is said and done I see it settling into slow inflation.

There are a lot of great apps for mobile users, but the desktop space is lacking. I think Delta had one a while back but it seemed to have been removed. The handful of others that do exist either require you to manually input all information, or lock access to exchange APIs behind paywalls. So two weeks ago I started making my own. **Features:** * Free and open source * Plugin based - all exchange and wallet connectors will be separate plugins that anyone can make (in any .NET language) and drop into the relevant plugin folder for Volta to automatically make use of. * Currently I have built plugins for: * Exchanges: Binance (garbage API), Coinspot, CoinEx. * Wallets: BTC, ETH (no token support yet), ADA (Shelley only) * I'm working out the best way to transfer coins to other exchanges for testing without losing lots in transaction fees. If anyone is willing to share their **read-only** API keys for Coinbase/Kraken/others to help development, please PM me. * Manually add/remove transactions or trades * Market data - probably going to stick with CoinGecko for this one, but the 50 requests/min limit may become an issue **Planned Features:**These will probably be harder to implement, so may never get added * Portfolio rebalancing - e.g. if you always want \~50% of your crypto exposure in Bitcoin, it'll advise you which trades to make to rebalance. (Maybe even link with exchange APIs to do this automatically but that would be a gaping security risk) * DCA calculator * Auto detect tokens / assets * Tax returns - This is probably a pipe dream * Notification support I'll hopefully release a beta version within the next month or two on GitHub. There's also a big gap in the right side of the program; I'm not sure what to put there yet. Suggestions? *For full disclosure, the image above is full of dummy numbers to test the UI and graph design. The working code /integrations is still in a separate project as it's messy and buggy, but the beauty of WPF is that I can easily link them together when I'm happy on the format the data should take*

You can get a bunch of them mostly on the WAX chain by just going here: [https://noise.cash/c/free-nft-channel-nqlkkn9l](https://noise.cash/c/free-nft-channel-nqlkkn9l). You'll have to be fast, so focus on the ones that were just posted. The ones that are several hours old are already all taken. Note: the quality of free NFTs is exceedingly low. But you get what you pay for. And eventually, you'll have to acquire some WAX to support your usage (via CPU, NET, and RAM). So you should plan to flip your first couple so that you don't run out of RAM right away (it happens after 5 or so NFTs). But if you're persistent, you can bootstrap your way to holding a nice collection of NFTs. Frank Fingerman

No worries we were all new once! and every karma is more moons on this sub, so I'll happily chat here lol Metamask is usually the go to for ETH and BSC wallets, and its compatible with ledger iirc if you want extra security. Not too sure if there is cold or desktop/mobile wallets for WAX network, I use their cloud one. IMO sign up to [https://wallet.wax.io/](https://wallet.wax.io/) and start there, you can get wax in slowly by [play.alienworlds.io](https://play.alienworlds.io) or buy some and transfer it to the web wallet. I'll give you a quick rundown though as its a bit different than other networks. WAX is cheap (about 20p) and their platform is geared towards NFT's so it makes it a little easier to learn the whole NFT scene. the wax network is a little like the Tron network and a lot like EOS if you've had experience with any of those. When you make an account it has three resources available: CPU - the amount of transactions and smart contracts you can execute NET - fucken black magic (don't worry you'll use none in regular use) Im not really sure what it does RAM - how much you can store on the account as you do things like buy/sell or make smart contracts while playing games, you use a bit of CPU, the actions happen instantly, but the CPU only returns when the network has confirmed transactions which can take a day or so. When you hit the CPU limit you can't make any more actions. when you have WAX, you can stake it to any of the resources and gain extra. You can un-stake from CPU and NET, but any staking done on RAM is permanent. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

I tried posting a while back about a coin I have been following for years and asked if a AMA would be alright to post because the lead developer was doing one. I didn't receive any negative response to it and when the time came for the actual AMA time and date to get posted it was immediately deleted. Many have called this sub and other crypto subs "a walled garden" if it doesn't go along with the admins of whichever subs coin stack themselves. It is tough because obviously people have a lot of faith where their money is currently pointed towards, but at the same time it is detrimental towards progressing the overall industry when new and exciting technology does pop up. There was one instance where the lead developer of this particular project commented on a Tweet from a prominent crypto influencer and he proceeded to get belligerent and said he absolutely never wants to hear about the coin ever again. I understand that this guy probably gets shilled crap all day long, but the developer was a former Vice President of Microsoft and one of two credited people to create .NET and bring multithreading to Windows 95, only to be dismissed so easily by this guy that just happens to have stacks in a different currency. I personally support a dozen different projects and think that someday consolidation will happen, but until then it is a race to better tech and everything needs to get looked at because you never know when you'll find a diamond in the rough.

It is more efficient than the legacy banking system it will eventually replace. And by the time that actually happens, the protocol may switch to POS rather than POW. Even if it doesn’t switch to POS protocol, the amount of mining energy will decrease to 0 once all coins are mined in the medium term. Then your argument is dead in the water twice. Does Visa’s giant skyscraper and payment network make that claim? What about each MasterCard, Discover, Maestro, ALL OF THE NETWORKS OF CREDIT UNIONS across the US alone with all of their brick and mortar buildings that are ultimately superfluous to their function in society - all of that infrastructure currently in place used to trade digital dollars is horridly inefficient. Just like the debate for universal healthcare, you’re too focused on the costs and not spending enough mental energy doing the math to find the NET energy expenditure.

I know everyone is hating on ICP, but I think people should really look into it. I am a developer (experience in VB .NET, C#, Java, and C++), and I spent a good amount of time looking at their SDK and their Motoko language. All I can say is, it is the real deal. As a developer, the Motoko syntax is kind of weird, but it is basically a typical C-like language, and I was able to grasp it within minutes. This is VERY good from a developers point of view in terms of adoption. What I don't like is all of their developer example content is running on localhost (i.e. not actually running on ICP, just on a local network). It could be they created all of this developer content before ICP was up and running, however. The other huge thing they are promising is making databases obsolete. Apparently, all data remains resident in memory persistently. Having to create and manage databases is a huge time sink for development, so big win here and pretty revolutionary. IF (and that is IF) they can deliver on their promise that a developer can simply type code, publish it direct to ICP, and you have an instant working web based app backed by a network of data centers.... this is going to be pretty huge.

You are completely wrong in your assertion that PC’s are bad for the environment, and I think it’s because you are only looking 1 layer deep on the surface. For a second, just try to understand how something that requires energy can also have a net positive impact on the environment. Would you agree that sending 1 email from New York to California would require less energy than driving 1 letter from New York to California? Factor in that there are over 300 billion emails sent every day. You do realize handwritten letters are written on paper and packaged in paper, right? You do realize how much energy is consumed and how many forests are destroyed to manufacture paper, right? Have you ever been to a paper mill? Would you consider the internet’s paperless ecosystem to have a net positive impact on the world’s climate? I’m just talking about emails/letters here, there are thousands of other archaic processes that the internet solves in much more energy efficient ways. When a more energy efficient system is invented (i.e. email), some less energy efficient systems are minimized or become obsolete (i.e. handwritten letters). This creates a NET positive impact. You can’t just look at something that requires energy and assume it will have a negative impact on energy usage. You have to think 2, 3 or more layers deep and try to understand the positive impact it could have if it minimizes or eliminates other energy inefficient processes. Bitcoin is the same way. It may require a lot of energy, but it requires magnitudes less energy than the traditional banking system. Even though Bitcoin requires a lot of energy, it would create a massive net positive impact on the environment if it were to replace and eliminate the traditional banking system.
