But isn't this the inverse of what you're referencing? MTTR is the one being acquired for an amount that's likely higher then where it's currently priced. Unless i'm misunderstanding something, i'm pretty new this world.
MTTR is quick 20% play
There is an arbitrage play with MTTR (Currently trading at 4.30) with an upside 20%. Entered into a definitive purchase agreement with CSGP a few months back and is in the process of getting shareholder and regulatory approval. The purchase price is 2.25 cash and 2.25 of CSGP shares (5.50 aggregate). They created a reference price for the CSGP shares on closing that has a pretty generous collar - the bottom band is around 74. CSGP is currently trading at 73, so outside the collar, but the exchange ratio would still peg the closing price at around 5.40.
Maybe, but not if the $2.75 worth of CoStar stock shares decline because of its acquisition. In that case one wouldn't necessarily net $5.5 a share for MTTR.
Note that that buyout offer is not all cash, but instead 50/50 cash/stock. CoStar will pay $5.50a share --$2.75 in cash and $2.75 in stock -- for Matterport. So in addition to the acquisition premium -- if the deal closes -- you would have to be comfortable with having less cash than the $4.50 you would pay for MTTR now and owning shares in CoStar.
As of the announcement they only had representatives of 15% of the MTTR shares in agreements to support the deal. If the execs or a few large individual shareholders held a majority and were in agreement it would be trading closer to deal price.

Other than the deal falling through, seems like a pretty low risk way to make 15%. Anyone else looking at this? I eat crayons. Not smismancial advice.

Interesting, my partner is into 3D engineering & looks like he invested in MTTR...I asked him why by text and he said "good tool for that niche internet real estate everyone checks out & even more if they are good at branching out, a very scalable market for other industries. A company that went public via a SPAC just before the bubble. I don't believe they were ever profitable. Sucks for anyone that bought and held during the inflated prices. Good for anyone that bought after 2023. The company had a good balance sheet. Its data was worth a premium (based on where the stock was trading yesterday). Would have been interesting if MTTR stayed public and were able to dig itself out of this hole.

You risk the merger does not happen, the merger is $2.75 in cash and $2.75 in stock of CSGP, and you risk the share price of CSGP drops after receiving that stock. The price of MTTR has also risen in reflection of the merger news to $4.82

I was thinking of $5.00 being my exit too. But after waiting 4 years for any profit, is it worth the extra $100? I am probably just happy getting any money back after being down as much as 80% at times. I hav been buying VTI every week over that same time period. I have an average share price of $216. Was up as much as 20%, but now about 14%. My experience with MTTR and CHPT was what made me move to VTI/VXUS.

I started buying MTTR at around $20 in 2020. I averaged down to $3.99 with 551 shares. Super happy to see it finally in the black after 4 years of waiting. I’m more of a VTI/VXUS guy now, so I think I’ll just sell for a small profit and move on. I think having all the cash back to buy more VTI is better than getting some cash and around 17 shares of co star. What do you think?
I bought a bunch of MTTR a couple months at £1.50 per share. Nice surprise today. Also tryna work out what to do next... I work in construction tech and had my eye on Matterport for a little while - they're hitting some major emerging requirements within the UK built enviroment (digital twin modelling, golden thread capturing, BIM for building safety management, integrations/automations, etc). I wanna keep holding because I believe in the company, but also not sure on best practice when holding during an acquisition.

Kinda reminds me of Matterport ($MTTR), they make 3d cameras to digitally capture spaces for real estate, insurance, construction, etc. They’ve tried to make a profit selling the 3d cameras, but that didn’t really pan out, so now they’ve pivoted into SaaS, hoping a mix between camera sales and app subscriptions will make money and I’m wondering why someone big doesn’t just buy them up.

If everyone is talking about it its probably to late right? I would recommend reading the book 0 to 1 by Peter Thiel, basically a how to build/identify monopolies handbook. Using the ideas in this book you can figure out which companies are going to be huge in the future, even when non one else sees it and its not sexy. End of 2022 & throughout 2023 I was accumulating PLTR & MTTR. At the time PLTR was 6-7 dollars now its 20-25 bc of AI everyone is seeing the potential. I expect similar things to occur with MTTR when there is a shift in the supply of real estate.
