Natera (NTRA) - Long Term or Short Term Biotech Play

Mentions

GH and NTRA have had several approvals/reimbursement wins this year. Not all that close to NEO or VCYT but it seems like their core businesses are humming. TWST and ILMN are derivative plays on the industry so makes sense they'd be up too, though ILMN is more of a complicated product cycle/China story. MRVI is borderline special sits. You're 100% right on the rates argument. But also if you're an institution its much easier to be long Dx vs core tools (typically grouped together) given valuations there and the constant head fake rebounds. Also assume people are starting to shift some money within HC out of biopharma after the YTD run, and Dx gives you some similar factor exposure. Haven't seen much spec dx discussion on reddit since covid, good shit

Lol your agent doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Running tests yourself also includes all the overhead cost and regulatory compliance and reimbursements risk which are always delayed from date of service. Selling platforms to hundreds of hospitals is ARR, builds a moat and is money upfront with add on services such as consulting, service contracts and high margin add-ons. Your agent likes NTRA so what they’re not profitable. But what do I know, I’ve only been in this business for 17yrs.

IMO, RXRX is a very Cathie Wood stock. It conceptually sounds appealing/exciting theme but when you look at ARKG over the last 5 years, you can see the "hype years" and you can see the years where healthcare is struggling and fundamentals matter. In the latter (2021, 2022, 2024) , the fund has been at the bottom of the category. When you look at the long-term? 3YR/5YR/10YR the fund is at or near the bottom of the category. IMO, if you have one of the greatest growth investing periods that I've ever invested in and the 5 year chart is just a continual erosion, there's something amatter. Recursion merged with peer Exscientia in August 2024. If this was such a compelling area, why would that company sell itself way off the highs? The merger hasn't seemed to help RXRX either. In terms of trials: REC-994 (Cerebral Cavernous Malformation): Recursion's lead candidate failed to demonstrate convincing efficacy in Phase 2. While it met the primary goal of safety, long-term extension data showed no promising trends in MRI or functional outcomes, becoming indistinguishable from natural history. REC-2282 (Neurofibromatosis Type 2): Development was halted after preliminary Phase 2/3 data from the POPLAR-NF2 trial showed limited tumor shrinkage and clinical activity. While the 40mg dose passed a futility threshold, the totality of the data did not justify further investment. REC-3964 (C. difficile Infection): Despite being the first new chemical entity developed through the "RecursionOS" platform, this Phase 2 program was discontinued in May 2025. The company cited a strategic decision to focus on other areas rather than clinical setbacks. REC-4881 (Solid Tumors): A pause was announced for this drug specifically targeting solid tumors, though it remains in development for other indications like FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) where it has shown more positive results. The company has been around for a bit now and when you look at the pipeline, there is one thing in phase 2, nothing in phase 3, the rest are all phase 1/pre clinical. Looking at a discussion on r/biotech: "Think it came up in another thread, but they just don't give the vibe they know what they're doing in clinical development. It's hard to say it exactly. But somehow they don't talk like they understand how hard it is to actually get something to market and what needs to be done to make that happen." (https://www.reddit.com/r/biotech/comments/1f8icsi/with_few_specifics_recursion_underwhelms_with/ - another thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/biotech/comments/1klmsi1/what_do_you_guys_think_of_recursion/) Also, I wasn't even aware the CEO stepped down a couple mo ago. Again, not saying this is a zero and don't want to be harsh but I just think this is one of those things where the results haven't matched the hype. The stock is 33% short (which says something) so any good news and could get a short squeeze. There is some cash to get through the year and there is a pipeline, but nothing in that pipeline is in stage 3/is seeming to generate that much excitement. IMO, AI around genetic testing (TEM, GH, former ILMN spin off/source of controversy GRAL, NTRA) has been an investment theme that has delivered a lot more than AI drug discovery - at least at this point.

Right on. ...going back to pharma (and the associated TAM), MRNA, Moderna, has been good to me in the last few months. They literally have cancer cures (amongst others) in the pipeline, and should outperform once the market starts pricing them as more than a COVID treatment. Similarly, NTRA, Natera, has some interesting DNA diagnostics. Getting a bit pricey, but I'm willing to at least hold until Druckmiller sells.

I sold off a few minor portion of my portfolio last week VST NTRA vertex RACE portfolio since june 24 currently sits at 13.11% return /unrealized . voo dca was 13.69%. close to beat voo very soon. will sell a few more smaller stickers when market hits fresh records. my observation is that it would hit fresh records very soon and bull market is intact.

Nvo is my worst performer in terms of percentage. glad i only have $17 invested in it. I trimmed my lly around $945 and $830 and sold out hims, ozem, hrtz. i’m currently holding LLY, PFE, MRK, LNTH, AZN, NOVATIS, VERTEX AND NTRA HONESTLY SPEAKING, NONE OF THEM is rewarding except Natera. I chose healthcare to balance out my portfolio but they have been underperforming for last 3 to 4years. Don’t add new money to it. It would take very long to recover . if you have to buy some, buy LNTH, lly, pfe or vertex. Those 4 have signs of recover and they have good dividends. LNTH has for sure bottomed out and has been steadily recovering.. It’s one of my newly added positions. check it out..

Yeah it’s called a poor mans covered call (PMCC) or a call calendar spread. In order to sell an OTM call we normally need 100 shares, but that’s super expensive. An alternative is to buy a call that is ITM or a least less out of the money. If you do that at the same expiration date it’s just a regular spread. But if you buy a long dated in the money call you can use it as the collateral repeatedly over the course of that long dated calls life. We call long dated calls like this LEAPS (long term equity anticipation securities). Now when selecting a LEAP it’s important to take into mind the delta of it. You want the delta to be somewhere around .70 or .80. Maybe 0.6 if you’re stingy and don’t want to pay a lot. Now fundamentally a long dated call like this is a very bullish bet, because you are hoping this call will go up in value. Half of my portfolio is a single SPY call with 1/17/25 exp at strike $435 that I bought for $6500 and is now worth $14900. With that SPY call so in the money I can sell OTM calls against it at shorter expirations. It’s recommended to sell something between .16 delta or 0.3 because you want them to have a very low likelihood of ever getting in the money. I personally have been sticking to the lower end , 0.16, because the market has been so green lately that on some occasions I’ve had to buy back my short calls. The nice thing about the big delta spread between the short and long call is if the stock goes up you the money you make on the long call offsets the money you lose on the short call to a greater degree. It only digs into your gains, rather than is a loss. This can change though if your long calls delta is too low, and the acceleration of delta on your short call (charm) outpaces that of your long call. But if you set it up smart you will only lose money if the underlying stock tanks and your long call loses lots of value. This is what I do on most stocks I am bullish on. I have spy, nvda, tsm, aapl, TJX, NTRA, RTX, EAT in my portfolio.

NTRA is significantly larger and that doesn't even get close to Quest and LabCorp. All offer genetic testing. You can't walk into a doctor's office and not see a Quest or Labcorp box. Nobody sees value in genetics testing currently. Look at what happened to BIOR(formerly progenity) and WGS(now GeneDX formerly Sema4). Neither was able to sell their genetics testing business and dumped it because it's a cash drain. Bior did a full pivot and WGS just dumped it to stick to the original GeneDX offering with a few extra tests in the hopes of getting some kind of pharma deal. This area needs pharma deals to help with the cash flow and pharma deals have dried up.

I actually use RSI on the daily; I trade from New Zealand and am half asleep during market hours, so don't go for such close scalps. Money flow is an absolutely key metric for me; it is a reliable predictor of price action especially on highly liquid stocks - less so on illiquid ones (NTRA, in which I have a current short, refuses to do what it should which is plummet back into the 30s, despite several days of net sell).

I just Want to add my 2 cents. You all seem to be holding stocks forever. Why? You are just looking at those gains and you what, decide you won't sell? Since start of 2022 I made around 12000 usd just by buying and selling one stock. NTRA. I bought at around 30-33 usd per stock and sold at 39-40 per stock. Bought and sold like 8-10 times so far. Waiting on them to drop to 30ish again and I'll buy them again. I have no clue about stocks and stuff, I don't really want to bother. I went with NTRA because looking at their chart they seem to go up and down all the time in a short timeframe and they seem like a stable company which isn't going to die off. My initial investment was about 5k usd. I have capital gains tax of 15% as well so 12k isn't pure profit. I know 12k isn't much for you guys and most of you invest 12k or more in month... I'm just sharing my strategy :) right now I pulled 5k away, and I'm going to continue to reinvest my gains.

Increased 3 other short positions CELH NOW and BROS so they are within 1-2% of green. Bit overcommitted though, but one red day will make everything OK. Tomorrow should be interesting.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Looking for NTRA, RKLY, ZI, BROS, PCT and CELH to experience significant declines tomorrow. That'd be nice. And if FB could bounce back to 190 after the sympathy selloff from the SNAP fuckup, well, that would make for a great day.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I 100% agree with you. We are in far worse shape now than we were when the Covid crash happened, because we have spent all the money, ruined the world's pruductivity, bought all the flash new cars and jetskis and whatnot, and now consumers drunk on cheap credit will get the nasty hangover of inflation and rising interest rates. SPY must head to below pandemic lows to accurately reflect the state of the market and the economy. Even if the companies you've mentioned aren't SPY constituents, there are canaries all over the coalmine. The retailers are big ones; next on the chopping block is anything with a fanciful valuation - take energy drinks company CELH, PE1000. Sure it's growing fast. But energy drinks is a very competitive space. It is also a 'luxury' FMCG. That valuation just ain't gonna hold. And there's a fuckton of pure rubbish listed on the NYSE and Nadsaq, many with crazy valuations for companies that do little and produce nothing (MVIS, FCEV, NTRA, PCT, etc etc etc.) Hold on to your asses, because this is gonna get ugly. Positions: Nothing long, because I can trust nothing long. Shorts only on some of the above tickers, in and out, take profit often and early, only short the pumps when they happen.

Why did you ignore other parts of the report? > In 2018, Natera paid $11 million to settle Department of Justice fraud allegations relating to improper sales & billing of Panorama, its key NIPT test, between 2013 and 2016. [This is true.](https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdky/pr/california-genetic-testing-service-pays-11-million-resolve-false-claims-allegations) > We found that “Vickie Seth” is a pseudonym for a woman who shares a mailing address and a close personal relationship with Natera’s former VP of sales at the time MGML was created. This is not as innocuous as "all companies do it". > These opaque and deceptive billing practices have unleashed a tsunami of social media and Better Business Bureau (BBB) complaints from patients, who have called the company’s business practices “pure stealing” and “absolute fraud.” [This is true. I would consider most genetics technology companies to be pretty risky. A lot of them won't see profit until many years in the future. That' being said, here are a few that I've been keeping my eyes on recently: Crispr Therapeutics (CRSP) CRISPR Therapeutics focuses on the manufacturing and marketing of biological transformative gene-based medicines and other related products. Biomarin Pharmaceutical (BMRN) Biomarin Pharmaceutical is known to be one of the world’s leaders in developing and marketing innovative biopharmaceuticals for rare disease driven genetic causes. Invitae (NVTA) Invitae operates as a genetic information company. They specializes in providing information for genetic diagnostics, preimplantation and carrier screening for inherited disorders, miscarriage analysis, and hereditary cancer. Natera (NTRA) Natera is a genetic testing company that focuses on providing DNA testing across multiple areas. The company offers Panorama, a non-invasive prenatal test.
