Thanks and yes I plan on holding onto my position in Valaris after they get converted into Transocean. RIG's management and fleet has always been top tier, the only thing holding them back were their debt load but with the de-leveraging through the Valaris balance sheet, RIG appears an absolute no-brainer to me.

Ive been a shareholder since 2019. It is 10% of my whole portfolio. I understand the potential. I was just pointing out that the merger isnt actually done as you said in your comment and there is some price volatility there in the short term. As someone who has personally watched this stock jump anywhere between $2 and $10 over the last 7 years…these swings happen. RIG has a tremendous amount of debt and while they have managed to pay some of it back, any immediate earnings they have are going to be used to pay that off. Market conditions have elevated oil prices over the last few years but there wont always be a war in Russia, a die hard Oil guy in US office, a blockade of the straight of Hormuz…etc. If they are unable to capitalize on the increased day rates and the market conditions dont stay favorable, suddenly they could find themselves in a very precarious spot. I would love for RIG to take off but until they have a better balance sheet and the merger is in the past, i dont see it breaking out of the current range. So id say its a cautious buy right now until the merger stuff is settled.

RIG - the strait is still closed - we are drawing down SPRs with no end in sight - oil companies have cash, so they will increase production and start new projects
the merger is not yet official. it is being reviewed for antitrust by the DOJ. if it goes through, they will be one of the only offshore drilling operators capable of complex high volume projects in deepwater, hence the antitrust investigation . plus they inherit Valaris' jack ups fleet which can operate in shallower water - something RIG hasn't done to date. it gets tricky when looking at what comes out of the investigation. they may force a divestiture and make them sell some of their crown jewels (atlas or titan)...or they may require things that neither side are willing to do...lots of things could happen. so the stock price right now is sort of in limbo until a decision is made...if the merger gets done without much hurt then i think it will continue upwards. if the merger has more delays, uncertainty, or flat out denied...then the stock may take a hit back down to that 250-4 range where it has been. not financial advice. i read an article once.
People aren’t going to read this (It’s WSB) but your thesis is spot on - the war in Iran is the catalyst for an energy bull market. Natural gas sulphur and oil not going through the strait needs to come from somewhere else and even if the strait opens (it’s not) - it will still take at least a year for things to go back to normal assuming countries trust Iran/USA/Israel not to cause more disruptions. Any thoughts on RIG compared to SDRL and NE? It seems to have the most upside out of all of the drilling rig companies

Yeah, i have been oil bull for a while too. My oil india position is 4x right about now. I started adding in 2021. I also had my eyes on KOS, which i bought at $1. And CNQ, RIG. CNQ, Oil india give great dividends. Really undervalued companies, with good profits and moderate PE, at a time where even garbage has 100PE
I share your thesis, although I am diversified into other sectors as well. But definitely overweight natural resources. CF is my fertilizer play, but I,might pickup aome MOS as well. I bought a bunch of RIG when it dipped under $3, which is basically the same as ownong VAL now with the oending merger. Still think it's undervalued, especially if our shared thesis is true. I also went with EXE to get some natural gas exposure. Still interested in picking up a lot more in these sectors and if they tank on news of thr Strait of Hormiz opening I will be going on a buying spree.

I have several investments like this from 2007/2008, still holding out of stubbornness. The $7000 originally invested is $1800 now, nearly 20 years later. The worst performer is RIG which I bought around $90, currently at $7. Probably not going to be the next Buffet or Soros, sorry to disappoint you guys.

You can’t take these posts seriously because he’s been holding VAL whose price is pegged to the RIG price based on the upcoming merger terms, and as VAL price is ~2% ahead, the obvious move is to sell it for RIG as an arbitrage, which he hasn’t done still, which means there is no research into these holdings, they’re likely random.

I think you’re early. The mobs of retail and market makers are slower than you think unless they have insider info. There’s a lot of stocks like RIG that have a terrific geo political setup now but haven’t moved nearly as much as they deserve. Drilling far from missiles, drones, and the Middle East is a prudent strategy and people will wise up. Solar, batteries, alternative energy, and Chinese EV companies especially are gonna eat goin forward. China is going to boom in Asia and Europe with their electric cars.

Transocean is the best oil stock to buy imo. Even with the price jump the past six months. They have zero exposure to middle earth, and countries after this shit will be tripping over each other to diversify their production in places hard to hit. That’s exactly where RIG works at.

Can’t argue with that port performance much… never been into dividend stocks but ET seems to be Benifits g from all this energy crunching going on. And a solid Dvnd. REI is interesting… seems like EONR but bigger. More debt than I would like but they’ve done a lot of acquisitions and have a much larger footprint so I guess that makes sense. RIG is on a run. If you like them, look into SOC. They have their own controversy as well but American heavy crude off the cali coast
