I think ONDS (and KTOS and SSYS) is still speculative and will move on news. They've had some great wins recently, and have also been bouyed by the recent $1.5T defense spend announcement...but they need the US Drone Investment story to continue building to maintain momentum. I think we're a bit more established now than during the last bump in October...but we have to expect volatility until ONDS earns it's stripes. Put differently - as much as I like the company in this market, a $5B+ market cap on $30M-ish (2025 financials due in March) in annual Revenue is pricing in a huge surge in business.

For US defense, I'm currently in RTX, KTOS, and ONDS. My defense adjacent plays are TDY (sensors, cameras, etc. used in drones and missiles), HEI (replenishment and refurbishment), and SSYS (3D printing patents; one of the few vendors certified to 3D print drone/aerospace components for DoD).

Thank you! I have to be honest. I don't like what SSYS does. I have to pass on this one, I'm afraid. I wish you good luck with it, though!

Pharma is always high risk/reward. Good luck! If you'vd got a tolerance for risk, check out SSYS, Stratasys. Found the name on a Congressional tracker (Debbie Wasserman Schultz bought); they're down since her buy but I like the business. They're a bit skeezy as a 3D printing patent troll, but they also seem to be one of the few vendors currently certified to print US defense drone components, which has been declared an Administration priority. Have landed a few public contracts, and may have some first mover advantage. Debt looks reasonable from a recurring revenue perspective; currently burning cash, but they've beat earnings for the last year. Definitely a bit of a turnaround play...but could be a good story in this market.

I saw the same with additive manufacturing, look at stocks like DDD and SSYS that peaked around 2013 and haven’t come close to those highs

Definitely small scale right now. But if 3D printing proves itself (and it already kind of has) it could really turn the manufacturing industry upside down and companies like DDD and SSYS will see huge upsides.

Its a bit of an arbitrary time course, but probably due the failed merger with desktop metals and flattish revenue growth. My thesis revolves around the aerospace/drone vertical which is far more relevant now vs what it was 5-, 3- or 2- years ago. In 2024 US military additive manufacturing spend surged massively (166% year-over-year), as compared to any prior year, which correlates to the ramp up in drone manufacturing and record high aerospace backlogs... and correlates to SSYS's stock price starting to trend up (the SP bottomed in 2024 and has more than doubled now). https://manufacturing-today.com/news/us-military-additive-manufacturing-spend-surges-166-year-over-year/

Respectfully, please re-read my DD.... Aerospace and defense primes have extremely stringent certification standards (high barrier to entry) and SSYS is one of the few companies certified to 3D print flight-ready parts for aerospace & drones. Therefore they already have a large moat and they are already bring in 550m in revenue with aerospace/defense being the biggest vertical. Furthermore, beyond the expense of buying other 3D printers and setting up consumable supply chains with other companies, their digital ecosystem (e.g., GrabCAD Print) also would make it hard for customers to switch to other 3D printing startups if they ever got past the certification requirements.

#TLDR --- **Ticker:** SSYS **Direction:** Up **Prognosis:** Calls on the certified tendie printer. **Moat:** Military-grade red tape & proprietary plastic goop. **Why?:** SSYS is one of the few companies certified to 3D print flight-ready parts for aerospace & drones. This locks in defense contractors, creating sticky, recurring revenue from printers, materials, and services. It's a "picks and shovels" play for the drone/UAV boom, and a US Rep on the military construction committee is buying.

Let me tell you a little story about a so called tender offer on SSYS shares that happened some months back... NNDM offered SSYS something like $20 per share in a buyout offer. Shares were 17. I got in.. Stock went up and down but eventually got to 20 and then to 24. This is on the news that NNDM upped their offer to 25 per share. But majority of shareholders would have to agree before this would happen... Then shares started taking, for two weeks straight or so... On the day of supposed buyout, my shares were locked up with my broker.. I could not even sell the shit.. At this point the deal did not go through and my shares were worth less than I paid. I sold for a loss. A few weeks later SSYS bottomed at $10.

DM has been eyed up by SSYS, as well as DDD. All the major players in the 3D printing space are tied up in a dick waiving contest putting in bids to buy each other out. And the fucked up thing is a lot of them are listed as American companies, but a minor amount of digging reveals they're owned by Israeli nationals and trying to pass themselves off as American owned companies. The real players in the 3D printing space are either privately owned or its GE or Rolls Royce. Ain't shit on offer worth a fuck

Ok! I have a great feeling that the formidable 3D Systems (DDD) WILL, °infact revisit a possible merger with the leading revenue earning 3D PRINTING company Stratasys (SSYS), sometime in the near future! With these two 3D printing juggernauts together, NANO Dimension (NNDM) would have to fuck off forever and take their "piggy bank" elsewhere! Moreover, they would essentially OWN, almost the entire 3D printing market! "The global 3D printing market size was USD 18.33 billion in 2022. It is expected to reach USD 105.99 billion by 2030"

The other way around. The offer $DDD made to $SSYS was to be considered max premium if $DDD reached $10. That would have been deemed superior and fully valued by Stratasys. Shareholders most likely still want that level of value realized now that it’s looking to sell itself. $DDD offered cash and stock and that stock needed to be worth $DDD $10 and they would have accepted immediately. It didn’t. Now, it is obvious that $DDD needs to get back in order for that deal to materialize in its entirety. Given the last few days of price action. $DDD is going to get pushed there. However, it’s what we do here. Dumb money, Makes money!!!!!💰

What happens to long-tail PUTs during a company acquisition (part cash, part stock)? Hi, There's been a lot of merger, buyout talk amongst 3D printing companies (SSYS, DM, DDD). There was a proposal put out where DDD would buy SSYS with cash + newly issued shares of DDD: https://www.3dsystems.com/press-releases/3d-systems-confirms-submission-superior-proposal-combine-stratasys I couldn't find any details on how the proposed merger would affect options... For the sake of argument, assume SSYS is trading at $20, and DDD buys them for $7.50 + 1.25 new DDD shares.... and suppose you sold Jan 2025 PUTS (at a strike of $20) for $5.... What happens to those PUTS? Do they vaporize? Do they convert to some version of long-dated DDD options? Do they accelerate to the acquisition date, but with a cash price of $7.50? (i.e. the counterparty could make $12.50 ?) - seems unlikely? I realize in an all-cash buyout, the options date accelerates to the date of acquisition, and the buyout price is the final buyout => if you sold PUTs at a strike below the buyout price, the counterparty would not exercise.... and if you sold PUTs above the buyout price, the counterparty would exercise, and you would take a loss of the difference between buyout and strike (in addition to the premium you received for selling the PUTs). https://www.reddit.com/r/options/wiki/faq/pages/adjustments/

It certainly helps for you to give historic examples of risk spreads. Perhaps my expectations needed better reference points. However, if DM is down on the premise that DDD would increase its offer, why would SSYS also be down? ...especially all this on an up day? I guess with these specialized small cap stocks, I need to reel in my assumptions about an efficient market. SSYS has seen a big run, and profit taking isn't crazy (even though VLD and NNDM are seemingly not stopping to breathe today)

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Thank you for writing this! It's 100% consistent with my own thoughts and research, by very validating to hear from you. Hard to say if the opportunity here in DM is true arbitrage or bag-holding. I sure hope SSYS goes with DM and not DDD. I think the long term model make more sense for SSYS than combining slow growth businesses, and I think SSYS is the best way for DM to truly see liftoff and adoption with its technology. My biggest forward looking question now is this - if the DDD bid wins, do you think DM is still a good investment, or could it spell trouble for smaller companies like DM? In other words - will the new scale of SSYS/DDD allow them to organically produce the tools/IP to out-compete smaller printing companies? Alternatively, I suppose a DM acquisition is still on the table, but DM would appear to be pretty much on an island for a while, I'd guess.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I’ve been following everything closely and will probably write another in-depth post shortly. In short, I think the deal is good for all parties involved. I’d suspected that DM would be an acquisition target for awhile now. That being said, I think this is about the best case scenario. DM gets a cash flow positive business to help support their new products and staves off an equity raise while SSYS gets the best metals portfolio and printers in the industry. Obviously, I wish the macro environment was better and DM was trading around $6 but we don’t live in a fantasy land. I’m a little worried by the continued bids for Statasys by Velo and 3D Systems. SSYS published this [report](https://assets.website-files.com/646d3ff4f45630efe69682f7/6491adda45ec27a66c87a769_Stratasys%20-%20Delivering%20superior%20value%20with%20Desktop%20Metal%20combination.pdf) detailing the benefits of a combined DM-SSYS after rejecting 3D Systems bid two weeks ago. 3D Systems is obviously trying to block the merger from going through as it would create the largest additive manufacturing firm in the world with an established global sales network. A spread has emerged between DM and SSYS despite the agreed upon deal which would exchange 0.123 SSYS shares for each share of DM, assuming that the deal closes. DM is around $1.80 while the closing price of SSYS today would be equal to about $2.24. It could be a solid arbitrage opportunity. More news should be reported shortly and I’m kind of holding my breath. I still think the deal is in the best interest of both DM and SSYS shareholders but it’s all up to the SSYS board now. I’ll try and post it when I have time. Moving to NYC on Saturday morning and I won’t have internet until Monday. If it’s been a few days, shoot me a message and I’ll make sure to get on it!

OP, are your still in DM? You've had the best analysis of DM on reddit, but surely the math all changed with the $SSYS announcement. I'm curious to know your thoughts. Seems like stratysys is getting DM cheap when DM is still vulnerable and hasn't really shined yet - but maybe the profitable flywheel of ssys dumping money in from other divisions will give the metals AM portfolio the edge over competitors, realizing better growth long term? Is it worth the dilution?

People have been making full scale stuff on consumer printers, they've come a significant amount of capability forward in the past 10 years, I've got a off the shelf FDM printer that can spit out a mini in about 30 minutes at almost resin printer quality (bambu labs p1p) and the other manufacturers are racing to be second/third to market with the new high speed innovations going on. I'm not trying to say consumer is close to industrial, far from, i use both professionally, and there's not a comparison yet.. but for the price.. consumer is getting pretty decently close, close enough and agile enough to run a small business with great success. DM has tapped into the metal at home printing as well, which SSYS is buying with their purchase and folding into their portfolio. What I really want to see is china start entering that market to push both innovation and costs for the consumer/business and open up the market for small guys who can't quite afford 100k+ yet The agile industrial revolution is coming, and it's happening in the garage, it's just slower than what everyone thought back in 2013.

Depends. If they’re bag holding and don’t believe in the next few years being better then yes, they could. But I believe the reality is that SSYS is at the turning point regarding profitability *(and they’re the only profitable AM company at present),* and while NNDM has a lot of cash they’re in big trouble in their own business - so they want to acquire competitors to divert revenue and bail out management.

What are your thoughts on SSYS now after declining the nano offer

Mentions:#SSYS
r/stocksSee Comment

I don't see 3D printing as particularly compelling. The printer manufacturers are having trouble now, and the stocks you cited are mainly services providers. I don't see them ever ramping up given the number of small shops that can do this. They may move up to a plateau level and stay there, but I don't see them able to scale continuously. And the 3D hype is done. Specialty printers and the high end printer makers (SSYS) might do well long term, but I don't see the market for this being exceptionally profitable until the technology gets to where product is equivalent to injection molded and can come directly off the machine and into use. Until then, it's mainly for prototyping. SSYS' 5YR performance reflects this. http://ceid.yale.edu/3d-print-requests And the small shop/home market is pretty well saturated now and easily undercut by the Chinese. Companies leveraging 3d printing to save money could see some benefit, like the rocket companies are doing. (RKLB, Relativity)

>There are a few potential reasons for this. First, the 3D printing industry has been slow to take off and adoption has been slower than expected. This means that there is less demand for SSYS' products than anticipated, which could be why their stock is down. Second, some investors may be concerned about the company's debt levels - they have around $600 million in net debt on their balance sheet as of September 2020. This isn't an insurmountable amount of debt, but it is something that could give some investors pause. Finally, it's worth noting that the stock market overall has been volatile lately due to concerns about economic growth and inflation (among other things), so this may also be playing a role in SSYS' recent share price decline.

Companies like DDD and SSYS also aren't big parts of the consumer level market which are much more dominated by smaller unlisted outfits like Prusa Research, Creality, and lots of build-your-own printers made from open source / open hardware guides.

SSYS, held since 2013. Bought around $40 per share and it basically tripled in a year. Now I’m holding a 40% loss, even after averaging down when it was below $10 a share. Long term hold so not worried.
