As a long time Tesla fan and owner, if they dropped the TM2 in my simplistic view its over and probably the reason we saw a certain high level departure. I have had access to FSD through the beta like many and while it is very good it it and more importantly society are not ready for self driving cars. As in, too many jerks out there would try to disrupt a self driving car regardless who is put at risk and far too many roads are just poorly marked or designed to where they give people trouble

I mean, I can't really give advice, I don't know your situation. If you're trying momentum trading, I highly recommend William O'Neil books. He writes a lot about technical movements and things. One thing he notes is that you should always have your exit planned in advance. If the trade doesn't work, get out. If you're buying long term, valuation is more important than technicals. Almost everything in the market is selling off right now, so its not your stock in particular. If you're comfortable with your valuation, be comfortable. However, 20% of your net worth on any individual stocks is very risky. As far as the investment itself, I have no idea. I usually avoid car makers, so I've never looked into TM.

Mentions:#TM

It's a car company valued like a tech company and now sales are slowing materially - even the company admitted that sales would be "notably lower" this year. Hybrids are outselling EVs; TM is up 30% or so YTD, TSLA down 40% YTD. It's getting oversold and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a short term bounce, but people are acting like there isn't very legitimate reasons behind the selling. The other day: "Electric-vehicle sales further decelerated in the first quarter, as purchases of gas-electric hybrids remained strong, accentuating a trend that started last year. Industry figures released earlier this month showed that **hybrid sales rose 43% in the January-to-March period, while EV sales flattened, up only 2.7% in the quarter. Contributing to the sluggish EV sales were weak numbers from Tesla, which accounts for about half of the U.S. electric market**, according to data from research firm Motor Intelligence." https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/hybrids-extend-lead-over-evs-in-green-vehicle-race-4cbd6b42

Mentions:#TM#TSLA

Not everything that is down a lot is the next Meta 2022. You have the company literally telling people that this will not be a good year and that growth will be "notably lower", EV sales are slowing while hybrids are doing well (look at TM vs TSLA YTD), high rates continue on, etc. Tesla has benefitted from being a car company viewed as a tech company; if that spell wore off completely - not good. People don't seem to want to accept the idea that the car business - with very few exceptions - just isn't a good business. Musk hasn't been very positive on recent calls and has talked about the difficulties of the car business many times in the past. Musk will try to pump robotaxis in August. From 2019: "Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicts 1 million "robotaxis" on the road by next year." https://www.wired.com/story/promises-broken-musk-offers-new-pledges-self-driving/ Stock is just about technically oversold so I wouldn't be surprised to see a bounce, but for a material/sustained move higher there has to be some improvement for EVs.

Mentions:#TM#TSLA

No offense, but it's 8% off it's ATH which implies you bought at the (recent) peak. The time to buy TM was a year and a half ago when people screamed that they were done because hybrids were going to be killed by EVs However, if you still believe in the story and the valuation, then good luck! It's just bad timing. Most things are down in the last few weeks, regardless of the business. It happens.

Mentions:#TM

I don't like buying automakers personally just a type of business I don't want to own, however, TM looks pretty solid. The fundamentals are good and it seems like the EV transition isn't playing out the way people thought. Seems like the consumer wants hybrids, which Toyota does a great job in selling.

$TM is a powerhouse and their approach to EVs is what will separate them further. While others have gone all in, they are in one foot in the door and one foot in the other door, meaning, they have a ramp approach to full electric fleets. Unlike other manufacturers who are working towards a hard cut, Toyota is essentially calling the governments bluff here. Go long before their ER. You’re going to see how much they are dominating the market compared to any other car brand.

Recently, when asked about people being deterred from buying Tesla's due to his controversial politics, Elon said something along the lines of: Do you want to buy the best car, or not? And gestured as if it was a no brainer, as if coastal EV buyers were forced to buy Teslas. Of course, Elon will not blame these numbers on himself, he'll blame it on high interest rates, while TM is blowing Tesla's doors off. I used to own Tesla, but not for awhile now. I don't like his vanity projects, the market for the cybertruck at its current price is small. Tesla got to its current market cap because he pulled off the model 3, full stop. Elon took huge deposits for his other vanity project, the roadster, many years ago, and he has been teasing that recently, implying that it will have compressed gas thrusters for braking, acceleration and cornering. I have no idea how that would be street legal or if he could convince regulators that the gas thrusters would be GPS-fenced, or something along those lines. But, it's an expensive vanity project. Who knows when the model 2 comes out. Who knows what new controversies he'll create for now good reason, while alienating largely liberal EV buyers. If Elon is thinking about buying out reddit and taking it private and reads this post, I would ask him: Do you want to get so rich that you can die on Mars, or not?

VW has much better drive comfort, sound isolation, more screens, buttons, matrix beams that work, HUD, blind spot indicators in mirrors and more... Weekend musings about Tesla: - [Used car prices in recent years](https://i.imgur.com/nGnULn4.png). Some were complaining that this chart just reflects the average car getting older as Tesla autos become more popular/widespread in the existing fleet. Would be nice to overlay a similar graph for another car brand. - The account TroyTeslike is apparently a well-respected and fairly accurate forecaster of Tesla production/deliveries (within a few percent). [His forecast for Q1](https://i.imgur.com/0nC2RAJ.png) suggests analysts are way too optimistic and need to revise down their expectations. - [Gary Black](https://twitter.com/garyblack00/status/1771913365671105006) (apparently a Tesla bull) similarly is tamping down expectations, anticipating 425K in Q1 (compared to Troy's 420K) and in contrast to analyst's 475K (actual number last year for Q1 was 422K--so you may even see negative growth). He says the analyst consensus for Q2 is 504K (1 year ago actual number was 466K) and is also likely too optimistic. The forward multiple on 2025 numbers is 42 (the 2024 forward multiple is 57). Both of these numbers may be pushed higher in upcoming months. The current analyst consensus (from Seeking Alpha) is -1% EPS growth in 2024 and 37% EPS growth in 2025, from revenue growth of 13% and 20%, respectively. - In recent days it was announced Tesla is cutting production by 20% in China, probably due to weak local demand. There were also announcements of a small price hikes of some models (model Y only I think) in US/Europe/Asia starting 4/2, but is this a reflection of strong demand or the automaker pushing for inventory reduction before Q1 numbers come out? Troy from above claims model Y inventory is at an ATH and this probably isn't a demand driven move (consistent with the used car price trend and recent discounts). Looks like if you're a TSLA bull, there will be minimal good news the next 2 quarters and the valuation may suddenly look a lot more expensive than it is with little change in the stock price. I'm curious about whose stock wins 1 year from today: GM or TSLA or TM or STLA? (Huh, just noticed Stellantis is just swapping the T and S in TSLA).

People have said that since 2020. "Tesla is more than a car company". TSLA is the worst performing stock since it entered the S&P. TM has done better in the past 3 years.

I think you are a little dated with your perception. Callaway/Titleist/TM are definitely top 3 right now . Callaway and TM definitely make more content but Titleist has more players on tour and people use their golf balls like crazy. Nike stop making clubs in like 2016. Statement is true that TM/Callaway/Titleist definitely market/sponsors the most of out the major brands.

Of course you consider stock price, that’s why you look at the P/E. At 75 that’s not good, means the stock price is above what it should be by a lot. If a company, like let’s say SMCI, has major prospective business then for the short term maybe a P/E that high is warranted but come on, these guys and TM are in a stagnant industry. There is no short term play that can increase EPS by 2-3x.

You might be early still, but yes it will be a buy. Things always bound back. Just like TM, BP, etc...

The TSLA Hype story is over. The stock will decline further and base out for a long, long time until it grows into it's high PE Multiple. All time highs ($350 a share) will not be coming around for probably 10 years. This is a mature car company and until they build out tens of thousands of charging stations along highways to make all consumers feel comfortable about their battery not running out, expect a long, dull basing in this stock in the $100 to $160 range. I see it as dead money for many months, if not 2 or 3 years. Compare TSLA Chart to TM it's eye openeing.

Fair, article is definitely misleading. I’ve been long in TM for a while and thought it might be the start of some exciting gains. I guess “most shorted Asian LC stock” doesn’t mean much if not many of their stocks are shorted.

I don't know how popular what I think really is right now, because people are human you know, probably the popular thing would be to recommend buying $5K worth of SPY, but I don't think it'd be a great idea for a few reasons. Basically my thesis is quite simple. Federal funds rate up + big bubble = bad in the long term. Who knows, maybe this will be the first time in history where something bad doesn't happen right after they up and then lower the rates, but my guess is probably not. I think there is going to be a recession coming, which might take a year or two, who knows, maybe Nancy does but I sure as hell don't. So here is what I would do for her, as a safer more conservative option to ensure her investment doesn't end up a bag holder: * Set yourself up with an online broker. * Buy T-Bill ETF like $BIL or $TFLO. * Create an alert that will e-mail you when the price of NVDA shares drop <$600 USD. This will tell you when the AI bubble is popping. * Watch the markets carefully and get ready to buy some things you want. Create some buy orders with limit until cancelled with a low price that you think things might fall to, so it'll just automatically buy when everything is puking and all the trading softwares are being DDoS'd and nobody can get in. * Buy whatever you want but if you ask me I'm a bit nervous about going all in on passive invest S&P 500 ETFs. I think things are going to be a bit different over the next 15 years than they were over the last 15 years. I'd probably look at what stocks are winners right now, and then buy them when they're cheap, and then also see if there are any dividend stocks that might be a great deal. $MSFT is always a good one since they got a monopoly and lots of business use, I'm also looking at $PBR and $TM.

You may want to look at TM for autos. TM has a terrific lineup of ICE vehicles, along with hybrids, EVs and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. They are not all in on battery EVs like TSLA. They also have a great track record for performance and quality, including Lexus. I own a Lexus now and have had Toyotas for decades. If I owned an auto, and I don't (only Panasonic for the battery play), it would be my top choice. It is 10.50 PE right now and the weaker yen has improved the stock price and that might continue.

Here's the thing, the Feds yesterday basically said "2% inflation target is dead" [https://twitter.com/financialjuice/status/1765401651580485681](https://twitter.com/financialjuice/status/1765401651580485681) That's actually rather... bad news. They're basically admitting they're losing control and more impotent than me watching my wifes boyfriend eat all my tendies. Remember: one man's inflated prices is another corporations increased profits. Why would a corporation decide to take *LESS* profit versus more*?* So they're sort of admitting defeat At the same time, there's still gobs of cash sloshing around in the ocean thanks to well over 10+ years of ZIRP. The national debt skyrocketed under ZIRP, dollar gets devalued by issuing gobs of it, and speculation has to rise to find better ROI. Now the Feds didn't exactly say they'll cut rates, but the hints that they're looking at it Soon(TM) are implying that the economy is actually not doing good even with a decade of ZIRP money sloshing around like my rectum after a bender at Jungle Jim's Dive n Slide Bar. On top of that, the latest inflation and unemployment pre-prints are still showing high inflation and unemployment. That's actually bad economic news. anyways ultimately the answer is none of this shit matters: sometimes it temporary goes red, then it goes green. Such is the way of the market

Yeah, I don't FOMO buy. I might have missed the nvidia train this time, but I caught plenty others (META, TM, AMD from back when it was sub 4 , blah blah). I trimmed stocks portfolio back in august and bought some longer term bond etfs in october when things were in discount for some nice returns. I might trim again. There are a few cyclical stocks that have sunk lately, I might pick up some as well.
