Baytex (BTE) is still trading at 2.2x EBITDA, while peers like WCP, VET and MEG are 5x+. Its cashflow positive, profitable, and actively deleveraging. But the market doesn't seem to care. Could the discount be due to asset quality concerns? Or just a lack of coverage? Here is a quick peer snapshot (TTM basis as of July 29, 2025): |Metric|BTE|WCP|VET|MEG| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| || |Revenue (TTM)|**$3.31B**|$3.78B|$1.86B|$4.95B| |Net Income (TTM)|**$577M**|$981M|\-$34M|$620M| |FCF (TTM)|**$500M+**|$875M|\-$784M|$455M| |Net Debt|**$2.2B**|$3.3B|$1.3B|$535M| |Shorts 06-30-2025|**66.6M**|1.7M|5.7M|4.9M| |EV/EBITDA|**2.2x**|6.5x|5.0x|5.5x| Happy to hear other's thoughts, especially if you've dug into BTE or follow Canadian E&Ps. Is the discounted warranted, or is the market just sleeping on it?

Sounds like the solution here is for them to get in line and come here legally so they can have the protections afforded to people that are here legally. And I’d just add, we only do that commensurate with every able bodied US citizen and permanent resident having first crack at those jobs. And if they WONT work, there should be no safety net. Once that is done, nice and orderly go through the applications for visas and VET THE FUCKING PEOPLE FIRST. And then again as before, no safety net.

I'm looking to exit out of almost all of my tech/ai stocks early this week and into material/mining and energy stocks. What are some good stocks/options to look into?  I had bought some 6/21 $12.5c options of VET in early March that I think will continue to improve. I also bought LPG in early March and have held hoping it'll hit high 40s. I just sold out of AG and SILV after buying in early March.. might buy back in if there's a dip on Wednesday. I'm not familiar with energy or material sector so any advice is appreciated.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I bought 10.5k shares at 10.6 and picked up 100 Jan 2025 12.5 calls at $1. Barring any sort of fraud, I don't see how this trade can go tits up. CHK and EQT are both chopping production (less supply=higher prices) and futures are pricing a recovery in gas prices by December 2024. This year's El Nino means that while the winter was warm, summer will be hot too, meaning more demand for gas to produce electricity to cool homes. Realistically VET could sell ahead 100% of their domestic production at double current gas prices and lock in higher margins. Biden's export ban is only on new terminals so that news is overblown and priced into the spot market. Once Freeport's LNG trains get up and running again (scheduled for May) exports will continue and boost prices. Ukraine is getting more desperate, so they're going to ramp up attacks on Russia's oil fields, which is good for VET since a \~40% of production is in Europe. While European gas prices have cooled, there's no indication that the windfall tax will be renewed, so even though prices are lower, the margins are still great and the govt won't steal these profits. Finally, if you listened to the call, debt to equity hit 1x after last year's aggressive debt paydown and CAPEX will be reduced. While I think their share buybacks have been effectively worthless, they stated they're open to returning capital to shareholders, so I'm expecting another bump to the dividend, which should make the stock more attractive overall. I can realistically see a $15 share price by December, or even higher if we get a cold winter.

So for me the pumping of the fed with cash during the pandemic, companies not having income but somehow the stock price goes up, the inverted yield curve correcting, people are spending less, debts are going up, office spaces are going to default, wars, etc Oh yes there will be a crash...within the next 1.5 years. The election may keep it up for that year with manipulating markets. I don't always wait for a correction but this one I will. If I am wrong I am still in with all my retirement plans anyways. In the non-stock game I bought into VET (crypto) at $.004, peaked around $.28, made a decent bit more off this one, price is back down to like $.02 I think. If oil prices hold near $90 American and Canadian oil stocks are going to make large amounts of money. They have paid down a lot of debt over the past few years. So their profitability will be excellent. I think they are going to do well the next few quarters. Natural Gas stocks could also become really interesting over the next few quarters. I bought a large amount of OXY in 2020 and did very well, OXY.WS has become one of my favorite swing trades since then. I once again bought a large position in OXY.WS a few weeks ago and continue to hold. I have also started a position in BIREF, AR, VET as natural gas plays and hope to increase them going forward. They were some of my favorite picks in the past and I think they could be doubles going forward. Draws on oil and equivalents return next week.

Skimmed thru, didn't see a mention of windfall taxes. I was a shareholder last year. Vermillion makes their $ from their gas production in Ireland. Ireland confiscates the $ if they make too much. I don't follow VET anymore, but basic math doesn't work when evaluating European energy and financials. Both sectors are easy targets for populist governments.

I only started 4 months ago, currently sitting around even, with some picks way up and some way down (MSFT and CHPS have been good to me, BTE.TO, VET, TELL, and FARM are the ones that hurt me). I'm currently DCAing into relatively safe ETFs and my goal is to get to 100k invested this year. I like having some small volatile picks but I feel like I have enough and don't want to get silly.
