Your analysis is accurate, budget is great, and if the OP treated your advice like they met with a financial advisor they'd be in a better spot than before. 2 things though: 1) SGOV essentially reflects the risk-free rate, and whilst it's currently high that has not been the case. Hell, [just go 3 years back to the Covid stimulus era](https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/SGOV/performance/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAFUat8lLZvtbS9ym1BNxZlhJ4YQ7Jl_V2SiyavcpfRsFRebSBehCALyQ7GaFVX2gZcwiyPohHnE-jPwFBNfHAJHF3kXqkmYk9xCxeVI4479T64mVPvuXawQcH5dPRNMJNMxjPVCnL0r2zLjJfsdRxrImZFqTkcRVQvuCRhdetRRw) and SGOV was yielding 0.2%. Given the loan duration is 5 years and there are already expectations of interest rates lowering (betting markets put an 88% chance of this happening during the July Fed meeting) this strategy could quickly become a losing one. >This is all manageable if OP is diligent. 2) The word "if" is carrying a metric f***-ton of weight here. For reference the last thing OP said before leaving this thread was to ask if they should DCA this money into the market. I understand you have a good head on your shoulders, but it's frankly foolish to expect the same level of financial literacy and diligence from others. "Free money" via things like BNPL, low-interest loans, and products that give easy access to leverage like Robinhood or options trading CAN be used efficiently and effectively like you described, but can also cause great harm. That'd why many are hesitant to suggest it. Put it this way - how many of your friends IRL would you recommend this 50k loan@3% and tossing it into SGOV strategy to? I personally wouldn't recommend it to even 1:10 of them, let alone a reddit stranger.

🛡️ Protest Safety & Solidarity Reminder 🛡️ To everyone planning to attend upcoming protests: your voice matters, and so does your safety. Please take a moment to prepare and look out for one another. 📱 Digital Safety • Leave your phone at home if possible. Even when turned off, phones can be tracked. • If you must bring it, consider using a burner phone or placing it in a Faraday bag to prevent tracking. • Disable biometric locks (like face or fingerprint recognition) and use a strong passcode instead. 🧭 Communication • Inform someone you trust about your plans: where you’ll be, who you’re with, and when you expect to return. • Write down important phone numbers on your body in permanent marker in case you’re unable to access your phone. 👥 Buddy System • Attend protests with a friend or group. A buddy can assist if you’re injured or arrested and help document any incidents. 🎥 Documentation • Designate someone to observe and record events from a safe distance. This can be crucial if situations escalate. • Remember, you have the right to film public events, including police activity, as long as you don’t interfere. 🚨 Be Aware of Risks • There have been instances where individuals were detained by law enforcement in unmarked vehicles. • Stay vigilant, and if you witness such actions, document them safely and report to legal support organizations. 🤝 Community Care • Look out for fellow protesters, especially those who may be more vulnerable. • Share resources, stay hydrated, and support each other throughout the event. Your safety and the safety of those around you are paramount. Let’s stand together, prepared and united. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIg9vH2ola0/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

[Two Options Accounts - P&L from the Last 30 Days (IG Post)](https://www.instagram.com/p/DH-O8FXMmPr/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==) Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to options trading and just wanted to share my recent results from two separate accounts over the last month. I posted these on Instagram for motivation and tracking. • Account 1 (black dot): Realized profit: $4,443.00 Return: +36.46% • Account 2 (white dot): Realized profit: $4,623.00 Return: +18.16% Trades were done on Robinhood. I’m not going for home runs—just building consistency. Curious to hear what more experienced traders think about these numbers. Is this kind of P&L normal for options trading in a strong market month? Any feedback or advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance. #OptionsTrading #Robinhood #Webull

Its bad when it inverts, its worse when in uninverts a certain way (bull steepening). Bull doesnt mean bull run for markets, it means bull run for bonds. A dropping front end followed by a more slowly dropping mid and tail of the curve is bull steepening, implying that outlooks for investments in the real economy are so poor that banks and institutions are loading up on long dated bonds. Since the start of Q3 2024 when more and more economic data started point to recession (uptick in unemployment, oil prices plummeting, all kinds of stuff the feds recognizing as unwinding and switching tune to being dovish), we have seen longer bonds run and stocks chop around. See the following data. Notice how the correlations are almost opposite. Stock market plummets, bonds shoot up. This is flight to safety behavior. At best, economic slowdown drives some money out of the market into bonds. At worst a recession (imo that case wouldnt be not as bad as 2000 or 2008) which sees a *loy* of money move into 7-25 yr bonds, driving down their yields wgile the fed runs to cut the short term rate to ease the pain on the russel 2000 who are more tied to debt instruments which fix to the 10yr note. https://testfol.io/?d=eJytkd9Lw0AMx%2F%2BVI692cCvqoM86GQgKzoHKKFkvneeudzO9dYzS%2F93U%2BgN8kD0sT5dc8v1%2BQlpYu7BCd4%2BMVQ1ZC3VEjrnBSJBBqtPzkZ6M9BgSIG%2B%2B65INfQ06yMZaIgE0b7n1pcNog4cs8o4SKLB%2BLV3YQ6Z%2Fk7xkeheZJ0J2BxHj4Jz163xvvel7L3WXwDZwLIOzQbheWvBY9dbz27lK9Zk6yKxaBW9qmbe%2BoTpe2cYa6itf5kyyGvqCpn%2F8oi02xIPu8B6U5WtLXJCPn1t1ywQM41rgu%2BSH4OZu8azSC0FgFZmw3vHhtCS9w1Eos%2BupmozGukexPhJXZKyc6LQ44nIUzWI%2BU48PKoaITlXIG4qnQhDpfxCW3QdF7uvD

The stock market can deliver negative or flat returns for a lot longer than a few years. Investing into diversified low-cost index funds is still the best investment choice, but it's not a risk-free investment guaranteed to recover in just a few years. If it was risk-free, there would probably be no equity risk premium. For example, the US total stock market adjusted for inflation and re-investing dividends from Jan 1966 to 1982 delivered an annual negative real return of -0.47% for 16 years. From Jan 2000 to 2013, it delivered an annual real return of 0.17% for 13 years. Of course those times were followed by periods of extremely high growth, but you don't necessarily get to choose when you retire. I do understand the question. Essentially this is the reason so many tried to push for nft and all sort of crypto scams. For examples there was folks trying to sell nft/crytpo/whatever of their music and even others peoples music. They ran some sort of nft/crypto tool and develop their own coin to attach ownership to a specific mp3 file or jpeg. As you can guess, anyone could claim anything just because they were the first to do it. They owned a Beatles mp3 or a render of the Mona Lisa and so on. But of course it doesn’t mean they owned the original, just some sort of certificate copy, almost like you own a physical cd of my music album but the music is still mine. Or more scammy of me recording a Beatles song and saying it’s mine and selling you my cd. Ownership is where the issue lies. The concept behind is indeed interesting but because it’s so new and too many people had too much money, the whole thing essentially became a scam. What’s funny though, once the word descentralice was kicking around, the central banks took notice. The BIS and many central banks went on a propaganda campaign against it and at the same time are developing their own crypto ledgers. So the idea is sound, it’s just the implementation that’s sketchy to say the least. Here is a whole documentary about why your question is a good and why exactly crypto and nft and ledgers etc are a scam https://youtu.be/YQ_xWvX1n9g?si=-zRb-gl6yiRJlvRe

It's probably more than you bargained for, but there is a \[long, but great YT video\]([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ\_xWvX1n9g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g)) that basically articulates why I am very sceptic about crypto in general and NFTs in particular. There are also two great (VERY long) features by Matt Levine at Bloomberg (paywalled, but I'm sure you can find ways around it): [https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2022-the-crypto-story/](https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2022-the-crypto-story/) https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2022-the-crypto-story-FTX-collapse-matt-levine/

you say digital currency is inferior, and while I would agree, I do want to point out that people are using cards more and more and have moved away from cash(54% of young americans dont care about bringing cash) 1 Bitcoin is a giant amount BECAUSE there is no inflation and to little currency, thats the whole point. When there are enough people a currency becomes more valuable to use. Add there is rampant speculation BECAUSE of this, people hold onto it because its becoming more valuable since its used less, thats the whole point! When a currency has no inflation, it is against your own interest to spend money. Also you say "because its harder and harder to mine" but like...thats also inflation. Thats more currency added. Think about that being what youre against, and remember your thinking not having any of that at all. You mention that "oh it hurts people that hold assets" yeah, but deflation especially hurts those without assets, it leads to a monopolization of money power. I have $100/a month, I need to spend 90$ this month. A guy has $10,000 a month, he still needs to just spend 90$. What happens in the long run? He has all the month, I have a scarce amount, I cant do shit and although my money is "more valuable" its harder and harder to spend. Here, I should've linked this from the beginning, and remember, the crypto part isnt important to our convo, its the fact that no money can be added: Clip Link: [https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx-XC5TgRsqfPy2\_FOdc7ncgE-\_Q2d9DZy?si=BKZZ0EKdPf8Xs\_1-](https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx-XC5TgRsqfPy2_FOdc7ncgE-_Q2d9DZy?si=BKZZ0EKdPf8Xs_1-) Video Link, time is 1:51:38: [https://youtu.be/YQ\_xWvX1n9g?si=qXs-9vxDgN--LUCP&t=6698](https://youtu.be/YQ_xWvX1n9g?si=qXs-9vxDgN--LUCP&t=6698)

>it happens all the time with hyperinflaiton. Hyperinflation is when a country prints more of their *own* currency, not when they switch to another currency. Otherwise, what is inflating? > Taxation doesnt provide anything, value wise. A mugger doesnt make your day job more valuable. Your analogy breaks down pretty quickly. A mugger also doesn't build highways, hire air traffic controllers, provide border security and national defense, etc. Sure, lots of (most) tax dollars are wasted, but they are put back into the economy, for the most part. > There was a time when every nation on the planet was on a metal standard. Yes, and there were some advantages to that. Unfortunately they were outweighed by the disadvantages. For example: The Great Depression only started to improve when FDR let the dollar float against gold, temporarily abandoning the Gold Standard. This source explains it better than I can: [https://www.moneyandbanking.com/commentary/2016/12/14/why-a-gold-standard-is-a-very-bad-idea](https://www.moneyandbanking.com/commentary/2016/12/14/why-a-gold-standard-is-a-very-bad-idea) > It happens all the time; many countries have ditched their currency for foreign ones, and didnt lose legitimacy. Doing so for gold or bitcoin would be no different. This only happens after the economy has fully collapsed and their is no other choice. They *absolutely* lose legitimacy and have to start over. They usually switch to the dollar or another major currency like the Euro or RMB, or a basket of similar currencies. Nobody has ever switched to crypto or gold, and they never will (see below). Hyperinflation/default/collapse could *absolutely* happen in the US, but it would cause a worldwide depression and it wouldn't cause the US to switch to crypto. All risk-on speculative assets (BTC) would go to zero in such a scenario. > Well, one predates the other by 150 years, so that is false. We're talking about modern finance. The situation *now* is that they are inseparable (absent a global depression). > Crypto will never be anything but dogshit. Bitcoin OTOH might be a new world money standard. Bitcoin will *never* be a mainstream currency: * Bitcoin is the lowest-tech crypto * It is far slower than Ethereum, and the Lighting network introduces centralization. * It is volatile. Why would anyone spend an asset that could be worth twice as much in 6 months? * It is too expensive and slow for anything other than occasional high-value purchases or foreign transfers. * Bitcoin is mostly owned by early adopters and whales, so it would instantly increase the Gini coefficient (inequality) of any country that adopted it to near North Korea levels * It also has a strict limit on the number of coins, so it would inevitably cause hyper-deflation in the long term (which is worse than hyper-inflation) * It is a *massive* waste of energy. It uses almost as much power for 400,000 transactions as the global banking system uses for tens of billions of transactions. At least Ethereum has proof of stake, ffs. * Common currencies don't work well across disparate economies. Smaller countries have to occasionally let their currency float against bigger economies they trade with. Just look at how fucked Greece and Italy were when they were in recession while Germany was booming. Without the shared Euro, they would have been able to recover far more quickly. [https://towardsdatascience.com/the-blockchain-scalability-problem-the-race-for-visa-like-transaction-speed-5cce48f9d44](https://towardsdatascience.com/the-blockchain-scalability-problem-the-race-for-visa-like-transaction-speed-5cce48f9d44) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCHab0dNnj4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCHab0dNnj4) (Stanford computer scientist roasts BTC from a technical standpoint) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ\_xWvX1n9g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g) (Line Goes Up) Bitcoin has been around since 2009. By the time other technologies (the world wide web, smartphones) had been around as long as BTC, they had fundamentally changed the world. Bitcoin's use cases are: * Speculative asset (works OK for this, fine) * Foreign transfers (again, fine) * High-value infrequent purchases (very low volume) * Ransom * Funding terrorism * Money laundering * Being stolen off of exchanges (Mt. Gox).

>And past that 250k? Beyond $250K, you should be in a brokerage account. Brokerage accounts are covered by SIPC insurance ($500,000), but that doesn't really come into play if your funds are invested. My wife and I have a brokerage account with over $8 million in it, and if our brokerage goes tits up, our invested assets would be transferred to another brokerage per FINRA. If any of our money was in cash, that would be covered by the liquidity the brokerage is required to maintain, or SIPC as a last resort. Bitcoin is very secure against 50% or "man in the middle" attacks, but the fact that 20% of all Bitcoin is lost forever suggests that it is still wildly insecure compared to banks or brokerages. The complexity of crypto necessitates exchanges, which are easy targets. Also, the immutability and anonymity of the blockchain makes it ideal for hackers, scammers, and other criminals. > My argument is that a permissionless immutable ledger is a tool that everyone in our society can build new services on. Funny that nobody is doing that after all this time... I'm a software engineer. The write-only ledger is hardly a new idea. Making it distributed was the only innovation, and the massive waste of energy just to enable a greater fool-based investment asset makes it one of the most harmful inventions in the history of computer science. People who are building new things in crypto are more likely to be on Ethereum, or other blockchains which are more modern than Bitcoin. Most of the things being built are scams, or worse versions of existing products, but the point is that Bitcoin is not a viable platform. Bitcoin has been around for 14 years. By the time the World Wide Web had been around 14 years, it was still rough around the edges, but already had several of profitable businesses running on it and was already changing the world. Bitcoin is *still* just a speculative asset. Nicolas Weaver (a Stanford Computer Science professor), breaks down how useless and un-original blockchain technology is better than I can: [Blockchains and Cryptocurrencies: Burn It With Fire (Nicholas Weaver)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCHab0dNnj4) [Line Goes Up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g)

what he actually said in case anyone cares: [https://youtu.be/kfzp\_IgA6YQ?t=381](https://youtu.be/kfzp_IgA6YQ?t=381) > the majority of our businesses will actually report lower earnings this year than last year in various degrees in the last six months or so at various times uh the the businesses have left the incredible period which is about as extraordinary as I've seen in business since World War II uh where the government would pour out a lot of money to people who couldn't get Goods It's more like "we're not in the lockdown boom any more" rather than "we're entering a terrible recession" or "USA is doomed".
