Haha ok let’s get geeky! Around 6,500 watts over 15 panels. Using a Sunsynk 3.6/7kw inverter with an osily 5kwh battery, in roof GSE installation. I actually sell solar at my work and have designed, drawn specified it all myself. Got some nice prices too of course 😉 may get another battery but figured I’d run it through winter to see how the system fairs up. Really looking forward to it

And no, FTX was not due to lack of regulations. FTX attracted capital precisely because over-regulated US based exchanges couldn't offer the range of services it did. Even unregulated, US-based exchanges would have been far safer than an offshore one.

Used to work at an FHLB. The FHLB system is very unique, it’s technically a GSE. The govt doesn’t fund the system, it’s a coop that’s owned by banks in it’s district that buy into the system. Silvergate is a member of Fhlb San Fran which means it owns FHLBSF stock. The loan will be collateralized and have big haircuts. The loan cannot be collateralized by crypto either.

I’m pretty indifferent to Robinhood these days but their the reason buying stocks is so cheap. Before Robinhood I had Scottrade which charged $7 for a buy order and then $7 for a sell order. Etrade was worse at $10 per trade. Robinhood stopped all that. I know everyone hates Robinhood for what they did recently with GSE but don’t forget what they did to the stocks industry. They made it affordable for the little guy. I’m not saying they’re not assholes just that they changed the industry for the better as well.
Same as it ever was... Before every bailout is a period of lucrative arbitrage of broadly perceived risk vs narrowly known risk. Madoff, shadow banking, GSE MBS, subprime... The shy sters walk away with the spread and those seemingly prudent mom and pop get made whole (usually) in the aftermath.
Underwriter here. , agree with your take. Most likely the LO just threw it in with list of total assets, but highly doubt it will be included in eligible amount, and leaving it for the UW to sort out. Crypto isn’t eligible on GSE (Fannie/Freddie) loans, so unless this credit union is port-folioing this loan doesn’t seem likely to me. But, errors happen all the time and perhaps the UW didn’t realize from the statement that holding me are crypto and not brokerage
Fannie has been doing this since 1938 and Freddie since 1970, in fact that is the primary purpose of the housing GSEs, and it didn't cause *that* problem for most of that time. The issue in the 2000s that blew up in 2008 was the erosion of underwriting standards by banks initiating mortgages, and the not-at-arms-length relationship between financial institutions packaging bunches of mortgages into mortgage-backed securities and the credit rating companies that were supposed to be assessing the risk of these packaged products but failing to do so accurately. Thankfully, average loan quality is much higher today, though of course that may not hold going forward - a dog returns to its vomit and a sow to its mire and all that. One might of course reasonably say that the housing GSE cause [many] other distortions to the housing market.
