Gold is non-political? I'm not sure where you are from, but here in the States we see Gold's value often based around protecting its owners from the devaluation of our currency, or propping up the value of our currency or to protect you when our government finally collapses. These are all ideas on the Right where I come from. They turn these ideas into profit. If you visit Conservative media when the value of gold is low, you'll see and hear commercials encouraging you to sell your gold, just put what your mother left you in a bag and trust someone else to appraise its value for you far from your prying eyes so they can prey on your desperation further. Then, when prices are high, that same Conservative media will sell that same gold (melted and stamped into patriotic nonsense) back to you, telling you to protect yourself from all of the above by imploring the same audience to buy its gold back from them at a decent profit. Nothing, and I mean, NOTHING lets you know better that marketing starts not with the commercials themselves, but by isolating the audience first. In this case, isolating stupid first allowed the markets to appeal right to them with stupid ideas. If you need further proof of this statement, that same audience believed that simply rubbing a bar on their forehead would get rid of headaches. It took the FTC showing these claims to be false before they finally stopped seeing that. No, wait! They continued to see commercials for it, they just didn't hear any claims to go with it, instead, they heard, "HEAD ON, apply directly to the forehead" over and over and over. No one watching or listening to the vapid nonsense on these channels knew that they had to repeat that phrase over and over and over because there were no claims that could be made to actually sell that shit. Stupid isolated, stupid manipulated away from their money. So yeah, gold is a political instrument actually.
