There are formulas to estimate weighting and how many billions need to be bought for each stock's addition. VRT's market cap is $92B ish, double LITEs. CVNA had a $100B market cap, TSLA had a $500B, CRH had $90B and $PLTR had $80B. Hope that helps a bit.

You're not off at all. What you're seeing is the term structure not moving in parallel. Front-month vol is way more reactive to spot moves and short-term flow, especially in names like PLTR with heavy weekly/0DTE activity. That near-term gamma gets bid up fast on any move while your back-month vega barely flinches. The thing people miss is that calendars are really a bet on the spread between front and back vol, not just vol going up. If both legs move together, your P&L is flat. And right now with so much flow concentrated in near-term expiries, the front leg whips around while the back leg just sits there. On a quick downturn like this morning, gamma dominates vega, so your front month moves way more in dollar terms even though it's the short leg. The back-month IV might actually be creeping up into earnings, but it just doesn't feel like it intraday because the front is so noisy. You're right that these work better as shorter-duration trades in the current environment. The days of putting on a calendar 30-45 DTE and letting vol do its thing are harder when so much of the market is living in the 0-7 DTE window.

Selling PLTR wasn’t a dumb move. The valuations were just insane. I bought in at $7 and sold at $120, $150, and $180. Even $120 felt crazy at the time. I don’t hold it anymore because the valuations still don’t make sense to me. Same with Tesla. If it goes down to $120, I'll start considering it. $100 I buy but highly unlikely.

I don't think many are doubting the operational success of PLTR, and their peformance would be the envy of any growing company. But from a stock investment perspective, the issue is their valuation. Assume continued strong growth into the future, and their valuation might be justified in 5-7 years. So what's the risk/reward upside for a buyer today? It isn't great because you need to company to perform at very high level just to maintain value. A good investment is buying a growing company where your equity grows along with it. While it was great for ealier investors of PLTR to get a "frontloaded" valuation boost, it leaves less potential for later investors. And as good or great as you might think PLTR growth has been - it did 70% YoY to get to $1.4b last quarter. Well NVDA did over 70% YoY to get to $68b. What's the main point here? It's much eaiser to have high percentage growth on smaller numbers, but that rate tends to trend down as the base number grows. IMO - it appears the growth rate is more likely to level off before it can justify a megacap valuation. Great product/service doesn't mean infinite TAM pool. It's a niche corporate and government solution. A MSFT and AMZN not only has that but much more broad offerings, not to mention huge consumer revenue pool - that is how you make a megacap.

I don’t have a crystal ball and but seeing the headlines since beginning of the year does not inspire confidence for low inflation. What’s likely upcoming with NFP tomorrow, two things will happen: 1. Hot NFP - cooked the books -> no rate cuts 2. Cool NFP - but high oil -> stagflation. Now you add whatever we have this week going into CPI next week, even if the numbers are static, pricing in the current high price of oil will definitely drive up inflation in the future. When you look at future-valued tech like PLTR, it’s evaluation get compressed.

Forget about commercial foothold, no one in commercial space will take a second look at junk like $PLTR. Government space works on mostly outdated stacks and for most people in government $PLTR was a revelation. They were also at the right place and at the right time. How much of a moat that is? I don't know. I guess sooner or later they will figure out that there are better alternatives than $PLTR. Until then cool kids will enjoy the ride.
PLTR is a stupid company. People think about the company in terms of cutting edge artificial intelligence but at its best, $PLTR is glorified SAP. Hell! $PLTR is so bad that comparing it with SAP is an insult to SAP. Having said that $PLTR shareholders are cool kids who like vibe trading and are in love with terms such as Forward Deployed Engineers because being a consultant is just not hip enough. By that regarded logic, $PLTR gets the valuation it currently has but even though I don't believe it is sustainable in long term, I am not betting against the stock now.

I've been making at least 20% gains on PLTR puts for months. One week is more aggressive than I've been but I think you will still be ok. If it hits, you will make bank. It doesn't matter what it's worth when you own it; it only matters what it's worth when you sell it.
