I'm sleeping pretty soundly with $TLT, GOLD, $EWY, and $EWJ as my largest holdings and a bunch of boring commodity & industrial stocks like $HAL, $MOS, $OXY, $AGCO, $DE, and $CAT to round out my port. It's my belief that the market is replacing the US 10 yr with Gold as the world's reserve currency. This explains gold 2x over the last 2 years and it's continuous bull run higher. The market is also repricing physical cap ex heavy asset stocks higher and repricing low cap ex data/bytes stocks lower. Foreign countries & investors are selling their US Big tech stocks & USD to stimulate their domestic economies whose companies are usually more industrial, manufacturing, and financial Vs US high reliance on Silicon Valley. This explains foreign stocks outperforming the $SPY for over a year now. Investors are also paying a premium for stocks in industries that seem more free from disruption from AI. $CAT and $DE for example aren't likely to be disrupted by AI until AI can plant & harvest crops or build a data center. We had a similar cycle b/w 2002-2012 after the internet infrastructure boom & bust.

I maybe didn't make it clear but I meant to say, in the short run, it affects Canadian exports more than imports. In the long run, it will touch everywhere, with worse impact if Canada puts up reciprocal tariffs or the US decides to play around with exports. This is the entire reasoning behind Canada's so-called targeted tariffs. Any sort of broad tariffs by Canada would be a painful bloodletting. Canadian agricultural products for instance are mostly farmed using US-made equipment from John Deere, AGCO, Bobcat etc.  Canada imports mostly things like machinery, vehicles, electronics including microelectronics, chemicals, drugs etc. The recent decades of low innovation and companies+talent+intellectual property leaving for the US is going to bite Canada eventually.

AGCO is wayyyyy more friendlier when it comes to repairs and parts for their equipment.  New Holland is more budget friendly but I would say is more popular with grain farmers. Definitely more bang for your buck than John Deere and the customer service doesn’t treat you like a constant revenue stream

Secular vs Cyclical changes. Secular changes are red flags to avoid. Cyclical changes can be good buying opportunities. ADM losing market share to hard cooking oil imports is secular and likely irreversible. AGCO is losing growth because of a downturn in the Ag industry as a whole which is cyclical, this is known because their competitors are feeling it too and they are still gaining market share in a declining environment. This will rebound eventually.

$CNH has just went green for the day. This is despite a big earnings miss by $AGCO this morning that has that stock down 6%. The market is a little more optimistic about the New Holland & Case IH manufacturer than the Massey Ferguson manufacturer. The market is expecting an earnings decline by CNH Industrial, but I re-opened a position this morning. Agriculture is in a recession, but the stock is trading at pre-Covid levels. Plus they are trading at a much cheaper valuation than Deere & Co.

AGCO’s net sales for 2023 are expected to be approximately $14.7 billion vs. the consensus of $14.67B, reflecting improved sales volumes and pricing. Gross and operating margins are projected to improve from 2022 levels, reflecting the impact of higher sales and production volumes as well as pricing and a favorable sales mix. These improvements are expected to fund increases in engineering and other technology investments to support AGCO’s precision agriculture and digital initiatives. Haven’t been doing much buying since a lot of stuff I own has been running I think LMB is really interesting. Small cap that is transforming their business. Going after more markets where they are becoming like the repair people for HVAC. Look at the explosion of their EPS last two quarters because that business is super profitable. I really like CARR. I’m bullish on HVAC. CARR is transforming their business. Selling off some segments and becoming more just an AC company. Recently bought the biggest heat pump supplier in Europe. IRA offers tax credits for heat pumps. One of the most interesting companies I took a position in recently was CWCO. They are building water treatment plants in Hawaii and Arizona. AGCO is really solid for a long, but not sure what it’s going to take for the market to want to buy agriculture equipment at this point.

Not sure if it's a favorite, but going to hold for the next few years. I really like the HVAC space. I'm getting really bullish on CARR and what they are doing as company. I'm starting to look into $CLMB. Just release their earnings, they missed analyst numbers on revenue, but even their numbers, they are up like 20% YoY. It's pretty cheap from fundementals as well. Also really like $AGCO, but it's goign to be a patience game on that one. The market is pretty bearish on agriculture equipment, so it might take time for the stock to do something, but it's a really well ran company at a great price. STRL is one my favorites, but they just blew up post earnings. They are buildling out a lot of e-infrastructure, which is like data centers and they are building the new Hydai battery factory. CLH such a great company and always holds a fair to cheap valuation. One of those names to ever buy on dips. Problem is a lot of names have had great runs and valuations have gone up with what I've owned. I haven't really bought much recently. $CLMB is looking good. $DIOD is also looking interesting at these levels. It's getting super cheap. Looks like business is slowing, but they are a chip company and they go through cycles, where you want to buy at the bottom of the cycle. Not sure if we are there yet, but it's another solid company at a cheap price. Please, always look into these companies and do your DD whenever someone mentions a name here. LIke some of the names I've owned in the past have bombed as well.

The agriculture stocks are moving higher; Corn & Wheat futures however are closer to their 5 year averages, which is near 1 year lows, and close to being cut in half from their 2022 peak. Wheat futures are currently around $6.40 and Corn futures are around $4.84. This tells me either corn and wheat futures need to move higher, or some of these agriculture stocks will get a 25% haircut. I've done very well with $DE and $MOS. Not so well buying $WEAT under $7. We are all guessing. I will say though, from a stock holders perspective Deere is a beast. From a farmers/customer perspective Deere is horrible to work with. They have been trying for years to get farmers to lease not own their equipment. AGCO is interesting, but in the upper midwest their brands are not household names. Deer's biggest competitor has always been Case/IH. This would be $CNHI or $TITN which sells a lot of the Case/IH brands in USA. I have no idea who stocks will react. I prefer to buy companies that make a shit ton of cash, Eventually if you have a long enough horizon the stock prices will catch up.

They should all have pegs under 1 and have reasonable foward PE's and PS: CLH - industrial waste company, should do well with the infrastructure, ira, and reshoring in the US. TITN, AGCO - Both deal with industrail and farming equipment. AGCO is a pure farming play. They have the best selling trackers in the US and make some tech that works with older farm equipment. Seeing more sales in the US. STRL - Construction play, same tailwinds as CLH, but they are seeing explosive growth in their e-infrastructure segment. One of the largest specialty site development companies serving large, blue-chip customers in the e-commerce, data center, distribution center, warehousing, and energy sectors. > AGCO I think AGCO is the company I was reading about could benefit from rising demand from the emerging economies. DE is just too expensive for poorer farmers and AGCO is like the discount version of DE.

It’s funny because even in that podcast/article, they talk about a company DE failed to acquire that AGCO got, precision planting, lol. Going to open a position tomorrow

AGCO... the red headed step brother of DE. Way better value.

I already have a position in TITN, but I’m looking at AGCO. It’s super interesting company and they are doing a ton in tech in terms of having their modules work with older machinery. Also, it’s kind of wild, but in terms of self driving and fully autonomous vehicles, trackers should be there way sooner. It’s a solid read, you can also listen to the podcast version here: https://www.barrons.com/podcasts/streetwise/welcome-to-corn-country/332c5c75-182f-41d0-a702-e109cc91385d?page=1& It’s the same author, I’m a fan of this one. It’s actually pretty solid reporting and always full of interesting topics and companies.

I think most people would be fine with a stock down only $6 from ATH's. I'm more interested in seeing if there is value in other stocks in that sector like perhaps $AGCO or $TITN, or if stocks like $CAT and $DE are the difference makers. A forward P/E of 15.8 isn't that bad for a stock like $CAT as long as they beat on earnings. I would imagine many people are betting and front running a trade on countries around the world increasing government spending on infrastructure going into and trying to get out of a recession which is a reasonable bet.

The stock I'm wading increasingly into these days is AGCO. First, it's a conservative industry that will always be around. Tractors aren't going anywhere, and while AGCO isn't the largest player, it's a significant one, owning the Massey Fergusson, Valtra, Fendt, and IDEAL brands, among others. Secondly, it has the lowest Debt/Equity of the big manufacturers (Deere and Case/New Holland). It pays a less-than market dividend, but what it does is extremely sustainable with one of the lowest payout ratios I've personally seen. It's trading at the lowest PE of similar companies, and the earnings used I think are a fair and accurate reflection, and is growing internationally. It's 5 year revenue growth rates are 2nd behind Deere, and it's EPS growth is first. It'll never moonshot, but I'm confident my money will grow over a long time horizon. Plus, [tractors are sexy AF](https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/girl-new-fendt-936-gen6-260nw-1769357444.jpg).
