> my Dividend portfolio is up over 120% in 4.5 years Sure, what's in it? VTI and VOO are at 66.55% and 70.80% during that time period, so you're either very lucky or a mad genius. Or full of it, given that every specific stock you mentioned has underperformed index funds the past 4.5 years. VERY badly in the case of P&G and AWR. https://schrts.co/FQEzcAUi (as a note, this includes DRIPing the dividends at a 0% tax rate)

You'll get a lot of flack from traditional investors about dividends on here. I'm here to be the other side of the coin. Dividends "eroding the pot" has to be the worst argument for not buying Income producing assets I've ever heard. Is a company less valuable because it pays its employees? No, that'd be stupid to argue, without employees the company wouldn't have any value. Value is speculative and so as long as investors continue to see value in the dividend structure and the performance of the stock it will perform. Dividend Irrelevance theory operates on the assumption that it "hampers growth" but this is just simply not the case otherwise companies that are known to increase their dividends annually would perform especially poorly. Proctor and gamble have been doing just fine for 69 years as has AWR. Coca Cola would also like a word with all these clowns. But they don't and "dividend Kings" ETF's are a real thing and that's just on the conservative risk side. The argument really only works if you put a finite timeline on the growth of a company and don't believe that company can maintain its value over time. piss poor logic. you take a penny from the pile but month over month, year over year their are more pennies for you to take, and as long as its a good company or etf there's no reason that those pennies won't continue to be there. and you can use those pennies that you take to purchase more of the pot, or put it towards other assets. It's a no brainer. Anyways my Dividend portfolio is up over 120% in 4.5 years and that's with the adjustments from the DRIP. and I'm making 1000 a month with 50K in in that portfolio. I only ever made 18K in initial deposits and have 0 growth picks, so don't listen to growth purists.

I think the regulated water sector is a decent play right now... I expect buying pressures to pick up as interest rates fall and risk-adverse investors look for something that offers dividends and some defense against a market correction... I own a lot of AWR and a fair amount of HTO. I'm watching trash haulers for the same reasons and have started building a position in Republic. Depending on what happens with tariffs, international brewers seem likely to get quick boost, DEO (Guiness among many other labels) and Heineken (reduced guidanced based in part on tariffs) are interesting to me... I'm watching Guiness, and have a decent position in Heineken at the moment. I suspect there's a higher ceiling here than the water/trash hauling stocks, but even trading in a tax-advantaged account I get hit with taxes on dividends...

> Pretty unsexy isn't it Low beta plays like staples and utilities are definitely the play going forward. Recession proof and boring so they don't have wild swings. I'm looking at water treatment companies which have been completely unaffected by all of this market manipulation and also relatively cyclical making good 6 month trades if they continue moving as they do. My targets are WTRG @34-35, AWK @120s, and AWR @71 SJM is also a friggin tank if you can get it in 100-110 range.

You see OP, I think your case and that period of 4 years are mostly exception at this point. The S&P situation especially. 5 to 10 companies, all in one sector are sucking vast amounts of investments that would otherwise have been spread in the market. At the moment there are lots and lots of companies that underperform, trading at historical discount and at some point this will change. Maybe in 10 years hydrogen will be like the gasoline now, and you would wish you bought APD today and not NVDA. There could be massive water related issues in the years ahead and AWK/AWR to outperform MSFT. The same case can be made in any other field. We are at wired point in time where tech is dragging the entire market up and everything else is pretty much guaranteed to under perform. Yes this can carry on for a long time, but not forever. I'm 100% in single stocks with 35% of them being in EU, and more - I do not own a single tech related stock. I'm under spy for last two years but I'm happy with my picks and I'm confident in the long term prospects. If you manage to remain solvent for longer than the market can remain irrational, you will be rewarded. Best of luck with your strategy - there is no right or wrong approach in this case, but personal choices.

“Blue gold” — off the top of my head there is AWK, AWR, CWT, MSEX, YORW. Or you can just buy the etf PHO.

If things get that bad, I can't imagine what doofuses would continue to work at these brokerages and keep the stock market running. The big guns will be in bunkers somewhere, and the rest of us plebs will be tilling communal yards to grow grain. Owning 10000 stocks in AWR isn't gonna feed us if things get that bad.

This was my big brain noob era when i first started stonks. I didn't do any kind of deep DD if thats what you're hoping for. Might have just searched water stock or something, this was like 7 years ago lol. One was some kind of bottled water thing on the west cost, sold it when i was up a chunk. The other one is AWR and i still hold the shares, up 115% and dividend has always gone up. Idk how well its going to do when i climate disaster actually happens but im going to hold this.

AWK, AWR, and ECL seem to have been steady climbing to their previous 3 month high AQUA and CWT have also been climbing, but slower and have a higher ceiling to reach.

I guess you don't shop there. It's my 6th largest holding. GOOGL, MSFT, COST, AAPL, HD, UNH, JNJ, AWR, WM, O

Damn, people are really bullish on AWR for some reason in anticipation of earnings. Just a big 5% pop out of nowhere breaking its downtrend from hell. Love the yield. CVS on the other hand is being strangled in the crib LOL. Gonna be a long 2 days for this stock…

BIP owns poseidon I believe. I was thinking AWR...the P/E is a little high but they are profitable with a decent dividend. Chart looks like it is reaching support. Probably dig deeper after earnings season.

Dutch Brothers has been doing pretty good in this market. It's a new coffee/beverage company that has room to grow. I'm mostly buying boring boomer stocks right now like consumer staples. Smuckers (SJM) has done pretty good for me. MO, a tobacco company has been doing pretty good. WM because people always need their trash taken out. AWR, a water utility, that pays a decent dividend. The problem I have with canabis and shroom and other speculative stocks, is who is best in brand? Nobody knows who is going to take off and be the winner. Just lots of risk in these. There are some deals out there in Tech that are solid like MSFT and NVDA and AAPL. These tech stocks at least pay dividends and can grow and should spring back to life once we get through these dark times. If we go into a recession, the stocks that typically do good during recessions are alcoholic beverages (everyone is depressed i guess), toothpaste, and women's makeup. Women will still buy makeup during a recession because it is a cheap way for them to feel better about themselves. If anyone knows any good ones other than mine, pass them my way.

American States Water, based in California ($AWR) * 67 years of dividend increases, 9.43% ten year dividend growth, and a 53% payout ratio * Healthy margins (75.62% 5 year gross, 26.09% 5 year operating margin) * Is a government contractor for water services to military installations, thus has juicy 50 year contracts giving it something of a moat to rely on. * Also services residential and commercial customers * Down nearly 20% YTD though and may not be the best entry point. Worth a watchlist spot though, imo.

Yeah but OP seems to not know the math that makes FIRE possible. 10% AWR is not sustainable by any means. It makes me think they think they can survive on 15k a year in a LCOL city and be fine. Hopefully their poorly painted picture includes a paid for house. And perfect health.

Water. US infra is badly in need of an overhaul. Droughts are getting worse. Usage and conservation in the west/southwest is going to be a hot topic for the rest of our lives. It’s the only finite resource that humanity can’t go three days without. $AWK $AQUA $CWT $AWR $XYL to name a few.

Afford is relative. A few years ago, I lost $30k on C. It hurt. But I’m up $173k on AWR. Bought both on the same model, so without one, I’d never have gotten the other.
