Banks and finance sector are not necessarily the same thing. There is a financial sector ETF like XLF that holds banks and financial related companies if that's what you are looking for - top holding is BRK.B, JPM, V, MA. It also holds insurance companies, credit card companies, and brokerages. There is a regional bank ETF like KRE - these are regional banks not BHC (bank holding companies). So - a BHC like JPM, Wells, Citi will not be part of the fund.

Curious to hear if your synopsis remains the same on this situation. Being that it is going on five years since this was announced do you have the same sentiment? Is it correct to still assume in a worst case scenario BHC is worth $0, you receive 80% of BLCO? Wondering when or if anything will ever force the distribution?

You’re being a reflexive contrarian, this fails when the price move is actually the start of a new trend If you want to see how this can go bad, then look for 1) equities/indexes in big bust ups eg 2001, 2008, 2022 or 2) major names that have fallen from grace eg (per chat gpt) all these in the 2010s where you bought the dip and then the dip kept dipping: GE, BHC, SHLDQ, JCPNQ, CMG, DB, CHK, WLL, XOM, CVX, RIOT, LBCC Basically you get screwed if the firm’s prospects arent as good as even the now lower price implies or you get screwed by the overall equity/macro backdrop It’s worth remembering that equities are hella bubbly right now and valuation are super high so youre taking some decent risks there (ESPECIALLY if leveraged)* Primarily - 1) understand why it’s selling off 2) understand a catalyst to make it bounce 3) understand that the market is pricing a downside scenario that may materialise and leave you holding the bag 4) dont do this with leverage *Here’s me evidence that markets are bubbly rn per my blog https://open.substack.com/pub/jbmacro/p/throwing-caution-to-the-wind?r=2tong2&utm_medium=ios

You can't really compare a large BHC like JPMC to a broker. JPMC has hundreds of different businesses in banking, wealth management, investment management, custody services, etc. etc. And being a retail broker is just one aspect of their business. Also - JPM's Asset and wealth management businesses are not the same as brokerage businesses. They are separate businesses just like how it's separate businesses for Schwab and/or Fidelity. Firm's like Schwab and Fidelity are targeting retail brokerage accounts - JPM simply doesn't target that demographic.

OP is mistaken. Seriously, you need to stop offering misinformation about topics that you don't know anything about. And no - an investment bank is not a depository. And no - Bank of America is a BHC. And BofA Securities and Merrill Lynch are not banks. I will say it again - FINRA rules do not apply to banks. Stop making stuff up.

It depends on what you need for services. If you are simply a buy and long-term hold investor - pretty much any broker is fine. If you get additional benefits from Citigroup - that's your own personal choice. A couple of clarifications - a commercial bank does not provide brokerage services - brokerage services are provided by a broker-dealer. Citigroup is a BHC or bank holding company. That means it's a company that owns other companies including a bank. So the actual commercial bank and the brokerage are separate companies. But as a Citigroup customer - you can get an integrated banking and brokerage experience.

This post has been marked as "potentially misleading or incorrect". As a reminder - many headlines will generate clickbait news as a means to increase readership to generate ad revenue. Many of these types of headlines take quotes and briefing reports out of context. If you have access to the actual briefing note from Goldman Sachs - please read the actual briefing note or watch the actual interviews with Goldman Sachs analysts. Note that some news outlets are reporting the opposite and saying Goldman Sachs is predicting a 10% increase in the S&P 500 in 2025. Analysts at a BHC may view the markets from different viewpoints depending on whether they are an economic research team, buy-side, sell-side, investment banking, etc. etc.

I'm waiting for someone to mention GE as a bad example of diversified holding company. But seriously - it would depend what an investor wants to track. And if there is a sector or concentration of interest. Companies like MSFT or GOOG are tech diversified and they can provide exposure to tech. Large BHC (bank holding companies) like JPM can provide exposure to financial services. And public REITs like O or VNO can provide exposure to US real estate. Or just keep it simple and create a basket of Dogs of the Dow or one of the Dog variants and rebalance once a year. That's usually just 5 to 10 different companies iirc.

That was a bad name choice - imo. I liked the Chemical brand better and they were the bigger BHC. I've heard some amusing rumors about how they decided to keep the Chase name instead. And I also wished that they kept the original Manufacturer Hanover logo that Chemical adopted. While I'm not one of those people - I used to work with people that refused to refer to various business groups as JPMC and instead used the term - legacy Chemical and Morgan Guaranty to distinguish the different JPMC groups. lol

Yes. That's a different Wells Fargo company from the bank. Wells Fargo is what is known as BHC or bank holding company. It's a financial institution that owns many other financial institutions which are structured and organized as separate entities. Those entities may be a bank or affiliated non-banks. It's a bit more complicated - but it's a legal separation to protect consumers from issues that may arise in a single entity. It's why companies like JPMorgan, Citi, Wells Fargo, PNC, etc. do not use the word "bank" in their company name. It's actually illegal in the US to use the word "bank" unless the actual entity is a bank. It's also why you sometimes will see a company refer to themselves using the word "banc" - to indicated that the entity is not a bank. At Wells Fargo - investing is done at Wells Fargo Clearing Services - or WFCS which is a non-bank affiliate. Wells Fargo uses the more well-known brand name Wells Fargo Advisors and WellsTrade. There is also a distinction between financial entities that offer investment advice and brokers. Anyways - the point of my message is that when you are starting out - you probably want to keep it simple and go with what you already know. If you already have a Wells Fargo bank account and you like their services - sticking with them can be helpful - especially if you need customer support. I'm actually not a fan of tech companies like CashApp for a variety of reasons. Alternatively - you can go with the popular and large retail brokers that cater investors like Fidelity and Schwab. These brokers also have retail branches if you ever need to meet with someone for help with your account.

State Street is a BHC or bank holding company. So it owns a lot of different businesses including a bank (one of the oldest banks in the US) - State Street Bank, an asset management business - State Street Global Advisors, and a securities business - State Street Global Markets (I think that's the name). I can never remember how they structure their businesses, but they have changed a few times. There are a couple more businesses that roll up. But to answer your question - yes - State Street has an asset management and brokerage business. I really hate the new branding and logo at State Street. Re: Blackrock - yes - Blackrock is technically a broker and asset manager. However - that said - Blackrock and State Street don't provide brokerage services to retail customers.

So, I'm not an expert, but I doubt you have a PhD or whatever. I am a professional software developer with a Bachelor in compsci. I've read and understand the technical parts of btc, and enough of the financials. It's not unique, the tech is horribly inefficient in most contexts, and there is no real technical advantage of btc over many other solutions. Or hell, even BHC, which is the original bitcoin, which stayed principled rather than forking their chain to benefit some large holders, is at least equally as good and have a fraction of the hype. Stop pretending that critics are too stupid to understand it. They're not. You're just trying to deflect. People shouldn't need to read this nonsense to criticize you people spamming investment forums with an investment that multiple financial leaders have rightly noted as a bubble.

So only Bank Holding Companies can own banks. If Apple formed a subsidiary it would defacto make Apple a BHC. BHCs are subject to semiannual examinations (audits) by federal regulators. Those exams would end up looking into every aspect of every related business. Also because BHCs pay for the pleasure of being examined those exam fees would run 8 or 9 figures a year. This reason alone is why Warren Buffet and Berkshire don't have a bank subsidiary. You can send wn up to 30% or 35% of a bank before being considered a BHC. Large Banks are technically under exam 24/7 and have examiners with offices in their building because they never leave.

Depends from bank to bank, the bank and the Fed only know what variables goes into the stress testing. Most are ran using a blend of macroeconomic variables (CPI, Unemployment, etc). There are 2 scenario types, BHC - Bank Holding Company which the bank determines the scenario based on what they think is the greatest risk. Then there are FRB - Federal Reserve Bank scenarios which is the Fed saying, we want you to run “these variables.” And are standardized across all banks. The FRB scenarios this year had minimal inflation and rate impacts in the variables, so the government regulated scenarios wouldn’t catch the failures fully

This analysis is based on the current option open interest. With that option open interest, it calculates portfolio-level greeks--notably Delta and Gamma. More importantly, once the portfolio level greeks are established, I can now simulate the change in greeks at different price points. From there, I can find the price levels where portfolio-level gamma is the highest, and the portfolio-level delta is close to 0. For some tickers, the underlying price reacts strongly off of delta neutral, gamma max, and sometimes both. It's the reaction off of these price levels in the past that is being used to drive trading signals. The plays and target entry prices given are calculated using a binomial option pricing model that reflect the expected size and duration of the reaction from gamma max or delta neutral. A lot of these plays are profitable by underlying moves in stock. The best plays benefit from the directional move as well as the increase in IV. # Notes - Something to give you a new wrinkle * If the price has moved past the entry price, exercise caution. Something changed between the time these plays were generated and market open. * Look to sell half your position on a double, and freeroll the rest to exit at your discretion. * I tend to risk up to 1% of my total capital on any trades I take. If my conviction is lower, I'll only allocate 0.5% or even 0.25% of my capital to the trade, and dollar cost average in. * The trades were calculated before market open, and so are based on information up to yesterday. Keep that in mind when deciding to enter well after the fact. New price movement may invalidate the original thesis. # FAQ - Because others have already asked. * These plays are mostly puts. Are you a gay bear? * No. It so happens that the companies have had some recent run-up which implies they are overextended. These trades are primarily some form of mean-reversion either toward or away from an important price level. * Are you entering all these plays? * No. There have been a dearth of plays in the WSB morning talks, and so I opened up my bag of tools slightly wider to point out more plays with a probable edge to help lead apes to more gain porn. Go through this curated list of plays, pick the ones you like based on whatever additional analysis you use, and get that gain porn. * You mentioned a new play on the same ticker in the past. What does that mean? * The new play should replace the old play. The old play is likely now invalid and if you haven't entered in, don't chase the price. Remember that a new day's worth of data has been produced and the newer play reflects that data, the older play does not. * Where are the crayons? I only see words. * Click the links above. * Have you back-tested this? * Yes. Results show a moderate Sharpe Ratio (1.7), with an expected win rate of 63% of trades (7% margin of error) * What is the historical performance? * The realized Sharpe Ratio is 1.88 with a 66% win rate. Based on the trade performance so far, there is a 95% chance the expected win rate will be between 60% and 78%. (Stats as of 2023-01-31)

Consider this. Instead of doing it monthly. Do it weekly but not on Monday. Write the call option that pays you around 1.8-2.1%. Stocks at 10$ per share. Write the 11$ call. They are out there. Mostly on the stocks that have just had big moves. This way you’re only on a 3 day period and there will be less time for a major move. Obviously don’t do this during earnings week. Do the math on the weekly’s. You can always dump the stock if it’s dropping and leave yourself naked. But you’d only be doing that with maybe a day or a half day left on the contract. Compound 1.8% weekly for a year and even if the stock goes up and you get called out. Fine. More profit. 🤑. Stocks Im doing this with. Short answer, no. Long answer, still no, Couple questions back at you. Technical recession, what is that? Do you mean a mild recession? RemainCo selling luxury products? Are you classifying Solta as a luxury product? Update to my earlier post: BHC management spent years describing this transaction and laying out the plans. Which also means there were years for opposing interest to raise their hands in opposition. I don't believe that many hands were raised because by all accounts this plan to separate the brands made sense. And IMO, it still does. I believe that some shareholders with legal resources will sue because this is America and that is how you complain about something that did not go the way you envisioned it to go and you try to get paid. I will try to keep common sense in the room as I think about the potential implications. If these debt holders were successful what happens next? Does the spin, unspin? What does that even look like? As a BHC shareholder it doesn't look that bad actually. Would be a mess but technically they are trying to turn back time to Dec 2021? When BHC traded around $28. OK. What happens to the BLCO shareholder though? They become diluted back into BHC? That would be a mess. Is it possible? Do you have any examples in the past 10 years where an IPO was undone? Which leads me back to what's the point? Probably money, damages, some settlement, and we move on. BHC can and should not only survive, it could thrive. 1) Norwich trial did not really give Norwich the right to produce a generic version as much as initially reported. In fact once the hysteria died down multiple sources confirmed this was not really not much of a win at all. IMO, the subsequent modifications by the FDA which require significant additional testing for approval is a nail in the coffin. I would love if Norwich would just settle at this point, but it looks like they are too far down the bunny hole. Settling, arguably, could be the most financially sound choice for Norwich. 2) Xifaxin development. BHC will work on modifing Xifaxin which could give them many more years of patent protection. I would call this one the big game changer. If they secure new patents with a modified / improved Xifaxin we are really looking good. 3) Solta. A cancelled IPO for a brand that was being valued at around $3B. Market remains depressed for skincare companies but their value should return. Health is wealth is more than a phrase. People are having kids later in life and 50 is the new 40. I think this demand comes roaring back. 4) Diversified and Ortho. I believe I read that diversified is over 500 drugs. I have yet to find any report that details out what Diversified entails. If anyone has it, please direct me to it. There must be value there to sell off some of those legacy products. 5) Debt reduction. In 2022 they eliminated about $3B in debt. This was awesome. This was genius. This was making delicious lemonade from sour lemons. This is 4x the amount raised by the BLCO IPO. And I think they could do it again. Maybe not at the same level but something measurable. So long as the bonds continue to trade a depressed levels the opportunity remains easily accesible. They could even draw down on their LOC to buy back these bonds. Makes sense when you can get 50% principal reduction. As for a larger negotiated debt swap reduction. I put myself in the debt holders position. Do I want half of something or all of nothing? Debt holders should refinance because what is the alternative? In the recent debt swap secured positions were offered in exchange for unsecured which make the SOMETHING much more attractive. I would look at refinance option all day long; adjusted rates, reduced principal, modified security, longer terms, etc. So long as the company is making progress and has a viable business (which is there) then this makes sense. Obviously there is concern about the loss of assets with BLCO spin (your original question) but all the bondholders who accepted the recent exchange didn't seem to mind. Then the Press Release on Nov 29 come out confirming that the debt reduction worked because the not yet distributed shares, were now totally unrestricted! So even more reason for the debtholders to adjust their expectations. Sidenote, this was big news and I think the market really missed it. Perhaps because it was around thanksgiving, I don't know. What we do know though is 88.7%; aka 310M BLCO shares are unrestricted and on deck for distribution once they reach their debt coverage targets. [https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bausch-health-announces-unrestricting-bausch-225000324.html](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bausch-health-announces-unrestricting-bausch-225000324.html) 6. BLCO is an amazing business. Could BLCO loan monies back to BHC? Kind of crazy, maybe totally nuts, but so is this whole situation. Why would they do that? Lots of reasons I think but others might say none at all. I wont get into this one. I think we should also ask ourselves, what is BLCO worth as a standalone just as much as we question what BHC is worth on its own. I think BHC has value, on its own, and will survive. Some people think BHC is worth $0 (hence your question about debtholders essentially freaking out). If we say that BHC is $0. Then what is BLCO worth? I believe that BLCO is a $10B business, on its own, right now. That's about a $28 stock. So, if BHC is worth $0, but you get 80% of a $28 stock, do you care? My math could be wrong but last I checked $22 > 8.

No...I don't. I like a channel that formed longer term, like over a month chart you see it or else the 3 month chart, here look at BHC, that's Bausch health, check the 3 month chart on that. This is just an example, but that is one well defined channel, and it's ascending, here recently. Also, it shows the beginning of a reversal going bullish again out of the dip, if I was buying it, this is where I'd buy at for this next cycle upward. Which could take 2 to 5 days to reach the next top.

Here are my stock picks for this week, or at least next 2 or 3 days. BHC, TEVA, DGII, ENPH, and just a small position into CEI which is a squeeze, just for the fun of it.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

I bought BHC, TEVA, DGII, and ENPH, because all of them are somewhat trending upward, on the support side of an ascending channel, in other words they are in a dip, should each be going up for this week. Gonna hold a few days probably depending how fast they rise.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Bought a bunch of dips. I would feel so good if every one of them hit tomorrow. Here is the list BHC, TEVA, DGII, and ENPH.

Considering I work for BHC it wasn’t much of a choice investment more than where my 401k money went (until the company just split in 3 hence why the stock price split in 3, because assets were split in 3). My initial buy in to GME was $44 and then a lot more at $60. This is PRE 4-1 split so divide those 2 numbers by 4 and that is my average cost basis… or around $15 like I initially said, moron.

\# Notes \* If the price has moved past the entry price, exercise caution. Someone knows something that I don't know. \* Look to sell half your position on a double, and freeroll the rest to exit at your discretion. \* I tend to risk up to 1% of my total capital on any trades I take. If my conviction is lower, I'll only allocate 0.5% or even 0.25% of my capital to the trade, and dollar cost average in. \* The trades were calculated before market open, and so are based on information up to yesterday. Keep that in mind when deciding to enter well after the fact. \# FAQ \* These plays are mostly puts. Are you a gay bear? \* No. It so happens that the companies have had some recent run-up which implies they are overextended. These trades are primarily some form of mean-reversion either toward or away from an important price level. \* Are you entering all these plays? \* No.

Why would you buy BLCO over BHC right now? Bausch health $BHC recently spun off 2 parts of it's business. BLCO and some other medical device company. When blco IPO'd this spring, bhc nosedived about 80% a big drop. However they still technically own 90% of shares of BLCO. The catch being that they used the shares as collateral to pay long term debt and may not use the shares until after they meet certain thresholds of paying it back. Since that IPO bhc has paid back a big portion of the debt and looks on track to be able to unlock the shares sometime at the end of 2023. Now here's the rub.... Blco is currently trading at over double the market cap of bhc. So buying a share of BHC basically exponentially leverages your buying power of BLCO as long as you believe bhc that they will be able to pay debt. So.... Why wouldn't you buy a shitload of bhc instead of blco. Last week in it's ER BHC reaffirmed it's commitment to paying debt so they could distribute shares of blco to bhc shareholders After reading this I thought to myself BHC seems like a great bet for medium term hold... Until... Carl Icahn enters scene.... Earlier this week in his fund filing it was revealed that Carl Icahn had purchased 3.5 million shares of blco.(roughly 10% stake) Why would he do that? What is Icahn seeing that I'm missing? Someone more knowledgeable help me out here.

If the market cap is way below the enterprise value it means they’re carrying a lot of debt. Example is BHC. They have a market cap ~2B and net debt of ~22 billion. Giving them an enterprise value of ~24 billion while their market cap is a fraction of that. In terms of good value it depends on the company and it’s financials.

It depends on the terms of the spin off and why a company does the spin off. You have to check the filings. The abridged news release is here - [https://ir.bauschhealth.com/news-releases/2022/05-10-2022-174711820](https://ir.bauschhealth.com/news-releases/2022/05-10-2022-174711820) From a quick read - afaik - the spin off was so that BHC could raise capital to pay off debt. BHC owns 90% of BLCO.

Since 2018, I've owned some BHC. As a result I have done extensive research on this stock, the company, the split, and the trajectory of both RemainCo (BHC, Pharma) and SpinCo (BLCO, B+L). What's happening now is puzzling. BHC currently holds 90% of BLCO. The value of that 90% exceeds the market cap of BHC. Implying that BHC has negative value or there is simply a big value misunderstanding. I think its the latter. Holders of BHC absolutely expected the price of BHC to decline once BLCO was spun out. However, no one expected the value of BHC to decline BEFORE the spin out occurred. Insiders and professional investors own about 1/3 of all outstanding shares. Very well informed people who are close to the action. For example, Carl Icahn owns 10% of BHC and has two board seats. He has not sold. The price action of BHC feels manipulated because starting in late April the sentiment went completely negative leading into the IPO, and then the Q1 earnings call. Suddenly issues that were well known became sensationalized. The Norwich Trial, the Granite Trust IRS tax question, and the settlement opt-out investors had all been disclosed in 2021 but suddenly became concerning, even when the data surrounding these issues has improved. In a bear market investors look at any bad news and think of all the worst, and in a bull market the opposite. The treatment of BHC was complete bear, a nasty grizzly bear at that. This bear market is now looking at these issues through a new critical lens and have coupled them with the debt requirements needed to allow for the BLCO equity distribution. Fear runs deep with BHC because of the VRX stigma which means that now BHC investors sell first, ask questions later. Meanwhile BHC new leadership has been saying all the right things and talking about their plan to improve revenue and drive increased EBITDA while reassuring investors how confident they are in their legal positions, the counsel they have received, prior ruling events, etc. Here is where I think some common sense could go a long way. Do you think BHC debt holders would allow the spin our of BLCO if the RemainCo was set up to fail? (No) Why would any debt holder allow that? (They wouldn't) Do you believe that BHC could have a negative value AND that the equity distribution will never happen? (I think its delayed at worse, market conditions, inflation, 1Q Omicron, Russia attacking Ukraine, etc.) Do you believe this bear market will last forever? (No) Do you think that Norwich would prevail where three other pharma manufactures have settled before? (I don't but anything is possible, including an appeal) Do you believe that BHC can continue to provide 2.4B+ of EBITDA going forward? (Probably not, because they should still sell Solta. And if their pipeline comes through it could be much higher.) And what about BLCO, will they continue to trade at a discount to Alcon and Cooper? (no way, not forever. The analyst are just starting coverage and they all see the stock worth considerably more, 2 analyst so far with $25 and $35 price targets). Nonetheless, it is hard to say what will happen next and at the same time it is hard to see the sentiment be much worse. At the end of the day, so long as they get the equity distribution done the shareholders will be fine. But for those buying now at less than $10 this is an absolute steal, IMHO.
