The IPP names (CEG/TLN/VST/NRG/HNRG) have already done extremely well in recent years. NFG would be something that I think is interesting that's more of a decent value.

r/stocksSee Comment

HNRG is a coal IPP.

I was thinking the same thing. I sold my shares (cost basis \~$18) in Nov 2024, and then I kept watching it but didn't consider jumping back in. I think it's rising due to thermal coal demand expectations? HNRG has been doing well too. Additionally, its getting noticed as a rare earth elements play: "Peabody indicated on their Q2 2025 conference call that their initial studies have confirmed the presence of rare earth elements at the NARM and Rawhide mines, and in concentrations that are “the same or better… than others are reporting \[in\] the PRB.”. And supposedly they're easy to extract too? METC has been going up a lot for that reason:: "Ramaco Resources, Inc. has permitted the Brook mine – a former coal mine near Sheridan, Wyoming that contains rare earth elements. Ramaco is planning to mine rare earth elements from it, in addition to thermal coal as a byproduct.". Since BTU has way more mining volumes than METC's while having similar enterprise valuations, it seems that BTU is flying up for similar reasons.

\- Looks like $OII had some good news today ([offshore energy sector contract with Angola](https://www.stocktitan.net/news/OII/oceaneering-awarded-contract-by-esso-exploration-angola-block-15-d5f0s436ahrj.html)) (cc: u/_hiddenscout ) \- There was a [conversation](https://www.reddit.com/r/stocks/comments/1lmiqg5/comment/n0a9jpz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) 16 days ago about some executive orders coming through for power production / AI. Seems like that might be happening tomorrow? [https://reuters.com/.../trump-unveil-70-billion-ai-energy-investments](https://www.reuters.com/technology/trump-unveil-70-billion-ai-energy-investments-bloomberg-news-reports-2025-07-14/) (cc: u/Redfield11 / u/AP9384629344432 / u/dvdmovie1). I bought a little HNRG in expectation. Will see how that works out. \- $OCC is flying. I think they were initially low as expectations for the company were limited to commodity fiber? Now it seems like they're catching momentum as an AI/datacenter-beneficiary. And then perhaps also speculatively as a provided of fiber-optic cables for drones? Seems like it's getting little attention so far despite the run up. Too bad I didn't much of any position in that.

It's pretty amazing to watch some of the tangential to AI names that have run up lately. Many of them ran on the idea that data centers would be everywhere. LB: -15% HNRG: -28% IESC: -21% NBIS: -37% ARIS: -10% POWL: -18% The market clearly doesn't think data center expansion will continue as previously implied.

BTU has a met coal component. It's up less today than the pure play met coal producers like AMR and HCC. HNRG might be a Trump beneficiary, but I've been reading other things about them as well. Interesting value play actually. I'm not saying there was 0 impact from the debate, but today's movement is more likely from the fire.

r/stocksSee Comment

HNRG is up 15% since the debate, and besides a scuffle between Indiana residents and Duke Energy over rate increases there's no other catalyst to explain it. BTU is up ~12%.

When I bought TNP at the beginning of the year, it was trading at a 70% discount to NAV - $24 per share when it should be $70/75 based on the fleet value alone. That makes it a 3x bagger at minimum as long as the company is run smoothly (as a family-run business, that's its main objective). When you include fleet expansion and EU LNG demand, I expect it to reach $90 by 2027-2028. EPD is all about the Sea Port Oil Terminal in 2028 and its midstream involvement in every facet of the NGL process. HNRG's more of an asymmetrical play based on the market mispricing and misunderstanding its importance within the MISO power region. I bought it at $4.55 and expect it to reach $16 by next year.

r/stocksSee Comment

Very. I have midstream exposure (TNP and EPD), indirect (HNRG is aiming to buy gas-fired plants), and currently mulling over direct production. I know Thomas Hayes and his analyst team are very bullish on CRK, but those debt obligations...yeesh.

For oil, I "bar-bell": XOM, CVX, BP andBKR at one end (blue chip end), and wilder DVN and DINO at the other end. For Nat. Gas, Canadian: Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. (PEYUF for the ADR). \[For coal, Hallador (HNRG) is doing well.\]

Even better in 2022 was the smallish coal company in southern Indiana: **Hallador Energy ($HNRG). It was up 350%** (52-week) in late December. Pulled back slightly now. I made the mistake of selling mine only halfway up. The slogan "nobody ever lost money taking profits", while true in a simple sense, leads to BAD behavior. Better advice is: "Take your losses quickly, let your profits run." That's what Zweig, Livermore, Russell, Jones et al. say. Follow trends till they end. (The opposite, counter-trend "reversalists" like Niederhoffer, have to work harder responding to price wiggles -- and supposed Reversion To The Mean is often ill-defined or just wrong.)

Lol WSB getting into energy!? Now I know I should definitely sell my multibaggers. Bought ARLP around the 2020 election. More than doubled my HNRG position and will hold SJT to doubling. Should have bought when the retards were going about our “green future” and they elected the real dotard. LPG is still insane cheap though. Also not too late to get in Kazatomprom (LSE:KAP)

On news of a mild winter and dipping natural gas prices, coal stocks should fall. Recently I've been reading up on the thermal coal subsector specifically and have been waiting for a chance to throw down a spread. Imo thermal coal has another 5 years of life left. I doubt mines will close voluntarily when fuel reserves aren't full. The COP26 climate summit was more of a cop-out than anything and the global stance against coal ended up weakened as opposed to strengthened. An American carbon tax would change my stance but j can't see the Democrats managing that and it's definitely not in the Trump 2024 platform. A carbon cap-and-trade system would probably strengthen my conviction and I'd double down. Barring carbon pricing, I think the only thing that can save thermal coal beyond 2030 would be a South American economic turnaround combined with sanctions against Brazil. I.e. thermal coal is dead in 2030. I'm spreading 2% of my holdings into my own coal index (2k lulz). In ascending order of weight: $CEIX CONSOL Energy $ARLP Alliance Resources $ARCH Resources And the real congo homo play: $HNRG Hallador Energy @ $2.43 Go get the power of man's red flower and make your dreams come true, apes. Last chance is coming and going.
