Queens Gambit Growth Corp—Important or Impotent?

As someone who worked in higher education IT, the incentive is that IT people are more used to managing a fleet of windows machines. Managing a fleet of Mac’s requires different software (JAMF). The only reason we even provided Macs was for people who specifically needed them. But the majority of our fleet was windows.

JAMF... devide management for corporate phones or tablets that allows to run a second, private profile on it. Apple uses it, Siemens uses it and after 12 months of dropping stockprice they delivered earnings with estimates exceeded, jumped 10%. Not often seen nowadays.

I just watched Michael Walrath tell Dan Nathan that no software companies are doing 30% YoY growth anymore outside of a zirp economy. Yet JAMF have already announced they'll beat the high end of expectations when they announce in Aug, making it 3 or 4 years of 17% YoY growth, which I see people criticizing them for.

A public company may have institutional investors who hold shares of the stock. This could be PE companies, mutual funds, family offices, etc. When a major investor seeks to sell out their position - the investor may engage with an investment bank to offer the shares. This lets the investor take less risk while selling out their position. So because there will be a big block of JAMF shares that everyone knows is going to be sold - it causes the stock price to go down. Make sense?

Imagine investing in a company like JAMF, whose main source of revenue could be snapped out of existence if Tim Apple wakes up grumpy one day and decides to lock enterprise MDM inside his walled garden. It’s not as though Apple has set a precedent for doing that before, right? RIGHT?

All the management of terminals in done from server side. If you're using MS you use things like Active Directory and Group Policy Objects tomanage the endpoints. If you have Linux bases systems like Ubuntu or Mac you're gonna use an MDM like JAMF. Even then a lot of companies are trying to move to a ZT and C2C architecture. This can enable a move to BYOD where companies no longer have to supply employees with devices. There are multiple ways to do it, but ZT and C2C are very much target trends in IT right now. The idea is to reduce overhead management while increasing monitoring and security compliance

Where do you get that data from? I work in tech and I've seen very few macs used the largest be a massive margin in MS systems because they integrate much better with tools like Active Directory. They are also much easier to manage since you're not reliant on a single vendor for hardware support. You also have a much easier time getting qualified people to manage MS since they provide tools for the management of their own systems where as with Mac you need to aquire a separate MDM (generally JAMF) and that requires a 2nd set of support infrastructure to support an additional sub-set of systems. I've seen people in art and music industries trend towards Mac but they're 1 off systems that are unmanaged. You don't see systems like that in the tech industry. It would be a massive security issue and in tech right now security and privacy are huge.

Software companies that sell software to the IT industry, particularly those that sell to managed service providers (MSPs). In a recession, companies look to save money by laying off their IT staff and contracting out that department. Large corporations do this overseas, but SMB does it locally to MSPs. So, companies like NABL, SUMO, JAMF would be considered recession-resistant and you might be able to extend that up to the enterprise like ServiceNow.

That’s a lot of words to pretend you read my post literally without assumptions. I said they are decapitalizing. True. I did not say they don’t have tons of cash. I didn’t make ANY commentary on their cash on hand. I said the buybacks are price pumping gimmicks. True. Always. I also said they need to focus on customers, always true. I also said they are a monopoly and utilize powers they shouldn’t against their customers. Definitely true. (Utilizing Border Patrol to block batteries for old unsupported products is definitely beyond inappropriate corporate behavior. Anti right to repair is also. Pretending to now support it at their fixed prices for parts while still attacking third party components is just an act, they know their behavior is unpopular with their customers and regulators alike.) In other words… priorities. Their focus is far more weighted toward defending profits with bad behaviors than on customer delightment. It’s a common mistake. They’re out of ideas, Jobs is long dead, and they’re riding on being ahead of Google. Which honestly isn’t saying much… Google can’t form a tech strategy or stick to one to save their ass. They deserve a growth haircut. They have little interest in repeating purchases of overpriced machines. The M1 move is nice but we already see that jump over with in the Max… gluing two together is the decades old Intel playbook. Tech invocation is hard and they lost the culture to do it. They have a few isolated teams doing it but even the M1 was out of desperation. You can’t easily argue in court that your walled garden is necessary if all you’re doing is selling an Intel laptop who’s guts are no different than a Dell or HP or Lenovo. I was a BUYER of OSX beta when you had to PAY for it. That’s how good the choice to base the OS off of BSD was. Now it’s stagnant and going nowhere. Maybe they innovate again maybe they don’t. A watch isn’t innovation. It’s highly profitable in their middle class jewelery customer base, for sure. But not innovative. I believe it was you who joked about the Newton. Realize the newton was the right idea, it became the vision behind iPhone. They don’t have that sort of vision anymore. Value play, yes. Growth, sure if they figure out how to displace Google from the overseas phone market. Rental phones? Sad. No need to replace devices every three years at all if they’re raising quality levels. That’s a pure play on the weak broke consumer. “What would you like your monthly payment to be for life?” Lame. But intelligent as a tactic at 80% paycheck to paycheck. They need focus on the customer. They’re mostly prioritizing milking the customer. Eventually the customer “gets it” after the sixth $1200 pocket computer. Being a duopoly flush with cash makes you have no urgency to innovate. Question is, who’s the next hungry innovator? Businesses would beat a path to them for a built in JAMF replacement that catches them up more than a decade and removal of the walled garden mentality. On site repair too. I can’t let data leave the premesis any more. That’s just fact now. Make them way more money consistently than the retail consumer if they get after business needs. Mega growth. As it is we have to limit them as a liability to cyber insurance now and accelerating. Rapidly. They’re also not nearly transparent enough on security. Far too many critical vulnerabilities matching the industry at large, but less open about it. That won’t fly with risk managers.

It looks to me like JAMF is not the source of the info. They reference an IDC report for the phone and tablet market data. I do agree that this particular press release is more of an advertisement for JAMF since they are specifically singling out the section of the IDC report that talks about them.

Mentions:#JAMF
r/stocksSee Comment

It's because the report reads like an advertisement for JAMF. Vendors consistently do this in the IT space to try and push their products. This is why we usually defer to trusted third parties like Gartner's Magic Quadrant for this kind thing. You should see the "reports" firewall vendors try to push. They have a vested interest in trying to use metrics that benefit them and pick and choose what they put in the report. I used to get emails daily from sales guys at every vendor under the sun before I finally removed where I worked on LinkedIn. https://www.jamf.com/resources/press-releases/jamf-named-a-leader-in-the-idc-marketscape-worldwide-unified-endpoint-management-software-for-apple-devices-2021-vendor-assessment/ It's the same principal as why you don't let companies audit themselves or let a pharmaceutical company determine if the drug they produced is safe or effective. This also isn't a court of law where the wrong verdict could ruin someone's life. I'm also wondering how JAMF collected this information. They don't go into it at all. Is it collected via telemetry like how Microsoft figures out how many XP machines are still in the wild? This isn't the most reliable information considering people can easily opt out and block telemetry traffic at the network level. It also would make sense that organizations that use JAMF would likely have a higher percentage of Apple devices than the average organization.

r/stocksSee Comment

This very likely includes personal phones are not the same as company bought and owned phones. I already said that they are used regularly by consumers for business, but that is still a B2C transaction not a B2B transaction. The consumer bought it once and is now using it for different purposes as opposed to a laptop purchased by the organization for work purposes only that would be an extra purchase above and beyond what the employee had already purchased personally for themselves. JAMF is a Mobile Device Manager (MDM) for iPhones and iPads and has a pretty big interest in potentially skewing the numbers on this to make it look like they are on the cusp of a new business trend since people usually inherently think of Apple=mobile device. Gartner is pretty well respected researcher in the industry and it also does not include mobile devices. It also looks like the IDC got numbers that were pretty close as well. https://9to5mac.com/2021/07/13/mac-market-share-q2-2021/ This doesn't exclude computers purchased for personal use, but I think it gives a better representation of the PC market in general especially considering that I see more Macs in homes than in businesses (my mother and brother and a few of my friends have Mac laptops). Lastly, none of these include server operating systems which number at least in the hundreds if not thousands at any of these large enterprises and the licenses alone cost more than most Macs let alone the Client Access License (CAL) that is required for each user that wants to connect to the server.

Don't own any JAMF ATM. But Jamf is a sleeping giant. They manage enterprise edge for Apple devices Essentially they bridge the gap between what apple provides and what the enterprise wants. Apple has been adopted and growing into the enterprise at a rate of 100% and is vastly cheaper to adopt/maintain than windows. Enterprise is the next big play. Price has dropped 22% on the news that apple built a freemium endpoint manager. However, this is severely limited and is actually designed to streamline apple adoption in enterprise without overlapping Jamfs value prop

Well If you’re asking my opinion I personally won’t buy a stock that isn’t near at minimum a 52 week high. I take a LOT of positions, mostly newer companies. So some very recent examples are TIXT JAMF EWCZ APP SI. Notice the pattern ? On the contrary, some of my best shorts are near lows, like PATH which is a stock I went long in the 80s, took my loss, then shorted in the 60s. This shits easy dude.

r/wallstreetbetsSee Comment

Getting shorted and ignored based mostly on it's association as a SPAC. But the fundamentals and management are pretty strong here. Just a matter of time when the big investors make their way to Avepoint. One can just compare to JAMF to see where this one will likely be in a couple years

Hello Jeff, retail investor here - 100K shares of APXT. Here are my questions: 1. AVPT will be receiving $250M post merger and based on the multiple videos I watched, there are mentions of using those funds for acquisition. Do you have any companies already in mind to acquire? 2. Are there any plans for AVPT to be acquired by companies like Microsoft or Oracle in the future or are you strictly focused on growing the company to become its own powerhouse? 3. Out of the mentioned $20M buyback program, just under 10% has been utilized. Is there a reason AVPT didn't purchase more shares at this time where valuation is considered below comps? 4. Compared to JAMF and FSLY, AVPT is incredibly undervalued with a low % of institutional holding in comparison to competitors. Do you believe this will change post merger? 5. Are there any plans this year for a stock offering? 6. To allude further on #4, I believe AVPT has a strong future with solid fundamentals, however I haven't seen much marketing or PR to further its presence to investors. The interviews done so far are great, but they are very limiting in comparison to national networks like CNBC and Bloomberg. Are there any scheduled upcoming interviews with more established media? What type of efforts has your company set forth to further the presence of AVPT to reach new investors and gain awareness? Look forward to your response and I'm rooting for the success of this merger and your company.

Why do you suppose APXT is trading at a discount compared to peers/comparables (Ie JAMF)? Is it simply because it's still a SPAC and some institutional investors/funds wont invest in Avepoint until the transaction is complete?

nice writeup. i'm also long APXT via warrants. How did you get to your comps? Seems using the highest multiple cloud computing companies is a bit wishful thinking. For context, APXT lists the following peers in their investor presentation: growth infrastructure: AYX DT JAMF growth saas: AVLR FIVN RNG HUBS All of the above have substantially lower multiples than the ones you listed. Thanks!

If there was a significant usage of Macs in those industries (which make up the vast majority of the US economy) they would have a much much larger shipped PC market share than 14ish%. That market share percentage has essentially held steady with maybe a VERY slight upward trend between 2013-2020. They're still a horrible pain in the ass to manage in a Microsoft based identity management system, although MS is admittedly making some progress in terms of allowing MDM of Macs through InTune. That said, the best MDM for Macs is JAMF which as far as I know most places won't want to deal with if they're already using InTune. There is a real significant cost to adopting Mac computers in a Microsoft based environment.

Good question! Funny enough, they are usually the result of listening to a friend sale me on something. Those that I still hold would be GPRO and LVCA. I've got a few that are in the red right now (NIO, WATT, T, JAMF and DBX) but not by much and I have not been in them all that long (other than T - which I bought when iPhone came out and they had the exclusive thinking it would do something and it just never did).

r/SPACsSee Comment

1. A good management team is what this SPAC suffers from. I have stated this. It’s the price of commons and warrants that make this an attractive buy. 2. Good management is overrated. Think GRSV; SPRQ. 3. At least 2-3 of the members have been in either venture capitals or growth companies. Think JAMF and XSPA.

The comment I was replying to got deleted, but felt like this was still relevant: Probably the same way MDMs deliver pkgs. I’m researching Silver Sparrow now. The weird part is that Apple clamped down on distributing unsigned pkgs, so it would either have to juke that setting (somehow,) or it would need a legit looking signage. I wonder if they’re going to have to review if any of their approved Apple Developer’s have been compromised after SWI’s fuckup.
