Interesting idea, and it has some practical sides. One being is that prices in this unit would need less digits (in BTC or Sats we currently need more zeros, either before or after decimal separator). Another useful circumstance is that since 1 BTC has 100 Mil. Sats, if/when BTC come to price of $ 1 Mil. then 1 Bit = 1 USD, and 1 Sat = 1 Cent. Nice analogy when observed from current system. On the other side, in even longer period with price going towards 10 mil $, we can just use Sats, while miliSats would become decimals (for micro transactions). And 3 digits are more in line with physics SI Standard International units (2 digits in currencies are more of an exception) This would be when observed from new system with paradigm shift. Anyway one design for 'bit' that I've created (similar to ¶ - inverted Pilcrow/Paragraph sign): <img src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/borisdj/borisdj.github.io/main/assets/images/lightning-network/bit_logo.png" alt="bit_logo"> - 'b' and 'b|' as bit; - is alike to both ₿ and $; - ||o => 10 & 1 => binary 2 & 1 => 21
>**Only** ₿248 I love that you used the correct Unicode glyph, but please, let's not perpetuate this nonsense of having the currency symbol before the scalar. Let's be proactive and have the unit follow the scalar, just like the SI system does for all quantities. It also follows how it is enunciated. Nobody says "Bitcoin 248", it's "248 Bitcoins", so it should be written "248 ₿".

How to verify if SI% is self reported? The information that we can see is how much stock is being traded off exchange, and the reported amount of shares sold short of the daily volume. For years more then half of all traded stock is reported as shorts, usually around the 50-70% mark. Yet the officially (self)reported SI% is 20.69%. With market transparency the way it is now, how can average retail investors verify ANYTHING?
There was a phase in 2014, when bits were the most popular unit. Exchanges started trading in bits (also called uBTC as an SI prefix). Idk why it fell off. Gambling websites used bits all the time as well. It’s a very natural unit once you use it, million bits make a bitcoin, and 100 sats make a bit.
do you mean like: 1,000 satoshi = 1kilo satoshi 1,000,000 satoshi = 1mega satoshi 100,000,000 satoshi = 100 mega satoshis = 1 bitcoin the ratio btc to satoshi is not SI unit friendly What i advocate is to keep using BTC as is for large amounts. Satoshis also are pretty useful for the longer term and to reference network fees. Bits are just a bit closer to the Dollar, Euro units. This help unit bias. One Bit is now around 7¢ but can expect it to grow in value to level up with 1$, at the same time the bitcoin goes to 1M$. At least we have one decade before satoshis are useful without saying "hundred thousand" everytime. But I'm not here to convince anyone just to hear your opinion
I love sats too. they are the cents of a Bit. I'm not trying to replace them but to have a better vocabulary for the commons. As much I love SI units they are unclear for the average person.

Wow, that really does read like a well-considered plan. I'm just not that sophisticated. Honestly, I put a lot to luck and the rest to the golden rule: DI VER SI FY You seem to have built that into some steps of your plan too.

Thanks for offering to teach SI units to the OP, for free. You're very generous
This is such a shitty, pointless attitude. You're not the gatekeeper of Bitcoin or SI units. OP is enthusiastic and trying to learn more. Why not help them learn and nuture their involvement in a shared cause, instead of being a pendantic dick? Your snooty, passive aggressive attitude doesn't make them look bad, it just makes you look petty.

Thanks for confirming this. Like how on earth did we end up with this? I thought the SI standards was supposed to settle such things? Or is this part of the SI standards?
