I bought Katapult (KPLT) knowing that there was a recession coming thinking that more people with less-than-prime credit scores would want to use a lease-to-own service than use credit cards that charge over 20% interest. The current share price tells me I'm very wrong.
Edit: $KPLT Pros: Revenue Cons: Negative retained earnings, Cash on hand, EPS, Marketcap ( 57 Million) Thoughts: Small market cap can easily be manipulated. Add that with the EPS and the negative cashflow, I would not be in this because of the red flags and odds of losing money.

Welp. KPLT shares are up a bit with strong volume on a small earnings beat, but clearly they are wasting their position as a AFRM waterfall partner. Will be looking for a good exit now. Unbelievably incompetent management.
The proof should come on tomorrow morning's earnings call. But the whole point of their waterfall agreement is that KPLT specializes in subprime - customers with lower credit scores. They use metrics and loan terms optimized for subprime, and they instantaneously capture rejected AFRM customers. They may not serve all of AFRM's rejects, but likely many. Subprime has been growing faster than any other BNPL segment, and KPLT is the only one in the segment AFAIK. KPLT stated last quarter that they expect to benefit from AFRM and other lenders above them tightening their requirements, which AFRM's report confirms they are doing, in large amounts. If they are rejecting all those AFRM customers too, then they are abandoning their business model.

Eww David! Dave is a good play here on earnings. It’s really just good timing. Market sentiment is turning and risk on seems to be in vogue at least until the fall when the fed meets again or until the next CPI which is likely to go down and just add fuel to the short term fire. They are trading several times below valuation and that’s typical for all fintech right now. Keep an eye out on how others in this sector perform before 8/11. I know some of these are diff but they are in the same realm of high risk fintech, HOOD reports 8/3, OPFI 8/4, KPLT 8/9, SOFI 8/2 and there are several others. I have a position with 2.5 calls and shares. Keep in mind it doesn’t have to get to 2.5 to make profit but there is a chance it does and more. If these other names all do well or at least keep with the market momentum, then this thing may rip to the upside just for being so beaten down and any beat or getting close to positive EPS will send it to the moon. It’s risky, and shit may hit the fan on a macro level in the next two weeks, but its a bet I am making.

I like BBAI down here: \- the volume has completely dried up but it appears to be forming a support level around 2.6. \-S1 effect was I think around 2 months ago so I'd think the pipe dump should pretty much finished up. \-CTB is I think around 300-400% so any PR/news would probably lead to some short covering pump \-Many other despacs have recently gotten pumps lately. Although mostly low-floats, others like KPLT, DAVE also moved up in a big way off supported lows. \-Calls seem mispriced to me at how cheap they are at current levels (8/19 2.5c for 0.3, w/ earnings before exp and super low IV) ​ That said, if it breaks below 2.5 I'll probably cut.

This sub was right about RDBX and TBLT. It's probably going to be right about FAZE as well, but the squeeze will happen closer to opex. The difference between the spam tickers (for example the recent wave of shitty despacs like DAVE, SBIG and KPLT) and true short squeeze tickers is actual and verifiable short squeeze data. High SI, CTB and so on. RDBX had more than 100% SI, TBLT had more than 100% and so does FAZE. It's a stupid company, sure. But you can say the same about a DVD rental company being bought for pennies by a chicken soup company.
I have 141,000 warrants at $0.13 and 3000 commons at $1.10. That might have been dumb. Kicking myself now for canceling my buy order for commons at $1.00. Y'all can party with me if you guys end up pushing my warrants to over $1. Btw, I don't see this mentioned often but KPLT is a lease-to-own company (not BNPL) for people under a 600 credit score or so with Affirm as a waterfall partner. My bet is that with Affirm seeing more delinquencies, many more clients fall through to Katapult. I'm also betting that in this environment, more people are finding themselves in the credit score range that Katapult specializes in. I bought KPLT as a recession play - no one knows how that will play out but it's my bet that they'll do better than Affirm.
