I dunno, there was plenty of time where nobody wanted media names and Netflix specifically said multiple times that it had no interest in doing this sort of deal, as recently as a couple months ago. It feels like it was only when Ellison got PARA and money started to be thrown around that NFLX all the sudden became more interested. Really could have gotten it for a lot less when nobody was interested vs now a competitor is overspending and they're now overspending just to keep it away from them.

Seems like we will be seeing below 6.00 again soon. The spike from the past month due to the PARA bidding for WBD rumour has reversed. This does appear to be a trend, looking at patterns for the past 12 months. The Long Walk made a solid return and should do well in streaming, I can see it becoming a cult classic. Strangers 2 was a dud but potentially turned a profit when all is said and done. Looking ahead, the release of Michael trailer next month should create buzz. There is talk of 2 movies which is an interesting way to go for a biopic but if you are going to do it for anyone it would have to be MJ.

1 - PARA was as "intense" as it was because its dual-class structure gave Shari Redstone veto rights over any deal. She had specific personal financial goals that had to be satisfied that were not inline with the economics of other shareholders and were borderline uneconomic. It's WBD has a single class of shares. Ellison doesn't even have to engage with WBD management if he doesn't want. He absolutely will, but if he chose to make a tender offer to shareholders, no one could block the deal. It may be a single detail, but it is everything in this case. 2 - WBD discussed various combinations with PARA at a high level, to say that they planned to acquire PARA is not accurate. The plan with WBD was always a sale. On the profitability point, WBD is less profitable now than it was a year, 2 years, or 3 years ago. Yes, the streaming business is profitable, but adjusted EBITDA has declined sequentially due to the ongoing weakness in its cable business. Also, I didn't say they'd sell themselves for $24, but that it'd be north of $24, which is higher than it has ever traded, and more than 3x its 52 week low 3 - Any WBD deal would have to largely be funded with personal cash from the Ellison family. Not sure what the price for Paramount has to do with anything, the $15 was already \~50% above its market value at the time of the deal. Shari was a forced seller, Ellison was the only buyer, he could dictate terms. If Ellison doesn't move now, he will likely not have the opportunity to buy the Studio / Streaming business without paying a massive premium for a long time. None of us know what the offer will be or what price Zaz is a seller at, but Zaz was quoted in the NYPost about a price in the $40s (which would be insane), the stock has already traded up above $19, and Faber has reported a price in the 20s, so any offer under $20 would likely be a waste of time.

I have a few questions, 1. PARA + Skydance was a pretty intense structure. What confidence we have that the PSKY + WBD merger will be any different? 2. WBD was planning to acquire PARA before and now they will sell themselves at $24 when they are actually paying down debt and will be profitable in coming years? 3. PARA is already leveraged pretty bad and with Elison family backing we think the stock will improve? Pretty wishful if you ask me as otherwise they would have tried to take most of the folks out with the $15 tender offer which was for 6/10 ratio IMO bid will be announced next weekend or later once the FED rate cut is announced and it will be disappointing. I expect WBD to go up and PSKY to go down as it usually is with some back and forth between the two companies before the final price is set. PS: Don't want to offend anyone but just sharing as shareholder of both WBD + PSKY through the PARA + Skydance and ATT + HBO + DISCA saga.

I wasn’t saying Netflix wanted them, just that WBD’s CEO seemed to be pushing for a bidding war (Amazon and Apple were mentioned in the same breath). In sports, players do this all the time to drive up contract prices. Whether a PARA/WBD combo could ever challenge Netflix won’t be clear for years, so it’s really something time will tell. If you are right thread will be gone. If you are wrong thread will also be gone. What stays are just the upvoted/downvotes from whatever remarks you make today in this thread.

Im just repeating the news. I didnt say Netflix wanted them. Just that the WBD CEO wanted a bidding war Amazon and Apple were in the same sentence. In sports players often try to get into bidding wars to jack up the price before they sign contracts which is probably what WBD CEO attempting saying I will go to (insert companies) before I take Paramount offer. The answer to your question if a combined PARA/WBD will overtake Netflix wont be known for years. This isnt something that you get the answer within 24 hours of this thread. So honestly not sure why I even engaged this. Since the answer will be known when this thread long gone.

Nice gain today!  Core streamers are going to garden wall up just like cable.  PARA will be able to increase prices soon as ESPN and Fox One go live today at higher prices based on their churn rates. This position could 2x to 10x for PARA given it's market cap by 2030. There is only 30 percent float given how much Ellison and Red Bird own. Red Bird signed up just like you to mint 100 percent gains with their return on capital.

Title: Gradually loading up on PARA & TKO before the UFC’s no-PPV era I’m starting to buy Paramount (PARA) and TKO Group (TKO) now, with plans to add more during Q3 earnings and again toward the end of 2025. The UFC’s move to drop the pay-per-view model in 2026 and stream through Paramount+ could shift how both companies generate revenue and attract subscribers. The market knows about the deal, but I’d rather ease in before momentum builds and the valuation adjusts. I’ve been keeping an eye on $PARA (Paramount Global). It’s not a flashy pick, but the market seems to be punishing it a bit too hard. The fundamentals aren’t terrible, they’ve got a huge content library, and there’s always the potential for a buyout or streaming merger play. Yeah, they’ve got debt and streaming burn, but at this price, a lot of that looks baked in. If they clean up their structure or get acquired, it could pop. Also watching $BABA — I know, not everyone’s favorite right now, but valuation vs earnings potential still looks crazy discounted long-term if you’re patient and can stomach the geopolitical risk. What are you looking into? Always down to hear new undervalued ideas.

Yes, it is a rare event for success with a concentrated portfolio. I have a hard time believing in this type of success as people rarely sell at the high and never talk about their losers. Many individual investors lack a strategy to control their downside risks. Buffet controls his loses just look at his PARA, supermarkets, airlines sales. HIs wealth came because he held on to his winners and sold strategically for better returns. I retired early 11 years ago because I have a strategy and have \~ 10 holdings in my active account. After removing my original investments dollars, I move them to my hold and forget portfolio. In 2022, McKinsey was paid $55M to advise Warner Brothers to combine with Discovery. In 2025, McKinsey billed Warner Brothers Discovery an additional $63M to determine that Warner Brothers and Discovery should be separate brands again. From 2022-2025, McKinsey charged Warner Brothers Discovery $37M by advising the company to change HBO to HBO Max, then to Max, then back to HBO Max. Zaslav has been paid about $140M over the last 3 years alone while the stock has declined nearly 70% during that period. I've been negative on the stock on here since the spin off and while it may bounce at times I still don't understand why people are eager to invest in this. It's a poorly run company in an industry that has never really delivered for shareholders (PARA currently at $12 after IPOing at $10 ... in 1990.) In this case, WBD turns into two companies: one that will continue to be misnamaged by Zaslav, the other a bunch of declining assets and probably a lot of debt thrown in.

My best that was actually in reasonable size was recent, it was $2.00 FUBO leaps purchased in November of last year. Been a really good year so far where 33/41 of my options trades are profitable and the gains outsize losses by 4 times (I just checked last week for the first time in the year). FUBO was trading at a dirt cheap multiple and trajectory was steadily improving. It had what I viewed as two major catalysts: FCF positive/net income positive, and the lawsuit settlement with Disney that was poised to payout even more than the company was attributed in market cap. Made sense to conserve capital, accept a defined loss and grab the leaps instead of shares, if anything was to happen it would be likely in 6 months but I gave it a year, Just early in the year it hit and I sold off the calls when the stock was $5.00 for a 1350% gain. Cumulatively the most profitable stocks that I trade in order are SU, DIS, PARA, and FLG, with both calls and puts. Not necessarily quality companies but when it comes to trading (not investing and holding) I don't care much lol. I've hit even crazier gains percentage wise with shorter dates but I size as if it's going to zero and as if it's a longshot so cumulatively dollar wise it isn't much.

Shari Redstone is a hardcore Zionist. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/local-news/shari-redstone-israel-antisemitism-racism-jewish-black-hollywood-1235621524/ The only reason she tolerated CBS News covering Israel's genocide in Palestine for so long is because Paramount is in such a desperate situation. Now she's firing all the journalists and executives who covered the the story. https://www.npr.org/2025/04/23/nx-s1-5372796/60-minutes-executive-producer-resigns-saying-shows-indepependence-was-compromised https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/19/paramount-cbs-news-ceo-wendy-mcmahon.html She's prioritizing Zionist propaganda and censorship (Hasbara as they call it) over journalistic integrity, which is going to further harm her company's desperate financial situation. Paramount is a dead company. PARA as a stock is going to continue to float along until Shari Redstone dies of old age and her heirs strip it for parts. Either that or she sells it to another like minded company like Skydance. She could get significantly more money if she sold it to someone else, but Skydance's CEO is David Ellison. Like Shari Redstone, he is also a hardcore Zionist who inherited a ton of money from his father. And before some butthurt mod bans this for being "political," this is a front page story on CNBC and every other finance focused newspaper right now. It directly affects PARA, one of the most popular stocks in this subreddit. Warren Buffet lost a fortune on it because even though it seems like an obvious value play, he didn't realize Shari Redstone prioritized controlling a news organization for political propaganda purposes rather than as a business. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/04/buffett-says-berkshire-sold-its-entire-paramount-stake-we-lost-quite-a-bit-of-money.html Furthermore, Bill Hwang ended up in prison for literal market manipulation on PARA stock. Why did PARA merger miss deadline?

Mentions:#PARA
r/stocksSee Comment

> I just don’t understand why Netflix is trading over $1000 a share and stocks like WBD or DIS are much cheaper. PARA is up about 21% since going public.... in 1990. That is not a good record and if you look at the long-term record of Warner all the way back before the spin to the original IPO, it's not good either. Smaller pure play media cos (LGF.A, AMCX) have been obliterated since they went public. You had a business that was entirely hit driven and very cyclical. Now you have a business where the cable channels - which used to be at least a decent business - have become melting ice cubes and have either been spun off (Comcast, where they only kept Bravo) or have resulted in billions of dollars of write-downs. Last year: "During their second quarter earnings report on August 7, Warner Bros. Discovery announced an $11.2 billion including a $9.1 billion write-down for their linear cable TV networks. Besides the struggling linear cable networks, WBD cited the potential of losing the NBA as another reason. The WBD also reported a $2.1 billion of “pre-tax acquisition-related amortization of intangibles, content fair value step-up, and restructuring expenses” (https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradadgate/2024/08/09/as-linear-tv-loses-revenue-wbd-takes-a--91-billion-write-down/) So you have a media business that used to make a lot of money on network/cable channels and those audiences have eroded away. In terms of movies, it seems like every movie costs $200M now, so that much more difficult to actually make money. Everyone of these companies thought they could be Netflix but they can't, so you have all these companies with their streaming services (Paramount+, Max, etc) that are not the businesses they wanted them to be so they are now thinking more about licensing to Netflix. Well, if you're licensing the good stuff to Netflix, that's taking offerings away from the streaming service that already isn't the business you'd hoped. There is value in the vaults but 1) I don't think it's as much as people think it is and 2) having a CEO like Zaslav isn't doing anything for the value of the IP. Zaslav is absolutely one of the most overpaid CEOs in the country. It's extraordinary what WBD pays him and what PARA paid both Bakish and the three co-CEOs that came after him. So, yes, maybe there is a point where these names get cheap enough that there isn't much downside but the continued interest in these names on here in terms of the businesses themselves I don't get at all.

Short on PARA in case 🥭 tries to strip the CBS license for real? We know he won’t because he’s a pissy but does everyone else know that?

So, WBD, PARA, DIS, and NFLX could be affected by this. Any other stocks?

I did…Did you? You selectively picked a specific movie which was approved and you ignored the rest of the article which clearly says imports of Hollywood movies are being curbed. “It was not clear if China would approve the entry of other major releases this summer, such as Paramount’s (PARA.O), opens new tab “Mission Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” which may mark Tom Cruise’s last appearance in the long-running franchise, Warner Bros’ (WBD.O), opens new tab new “Superman” movie from “Guardians of the Galaxy” filmmaker James Gunn, and Marvel’s new take on “The Fantastic Four.”

NFLX is so pumped right now, almost $500B mcap but i think their content is stagnant and one of the worst of all the streamers. Streaming is just so fragmented now, its so difficult just to sit down and find a decent movie/show to watch without scrolling through so much shit. Some studios need to combine and take on Netflix. WBD and PARA should merge, HBO with Paramount would be a good service.

valid concern for sure .I did a little research on that very topic amd they are leveraging streaming options now. for that matter, so are GTN ,,PARA and WBD etc. NFLX showed them how to make money, and now all are rushing to copy Netflix

Consider PARA, they were offering $15 a share for the takeover. I believe Trump and Sherry Redstone are negotiating now. The settlement looks like it will be nowhere near the 20 billion Trump was trying to extort from CBS. I know I tendered 4,400 shares about a month ago the deal was supposed to have closed somewhere around the first of April but it got another extension something to consider in this volatile market

I’m in the same thought. I have 11 shares and bought them super cheap. Might as well just hold out and see what happens with new PARA - maybe it’ll boom, maybe I’ll break even-ish, maybe I’ll lose all my money. Who knows. But I’m gonna hang on to it, for the plot. Y’know? 🤷‍♀️

NFLX valuation is really becoming a joke. content is stale, its geared for teens now. Couple of these other streamers need to merge and compete. WBD (HBO) and PARA would be a better service.

LVMH is a great company but 31% imo is rather excessive. Would keep that at a smaller size, would keep BP given Elliott activist campaign, would keep Amazon. ASML is fine. Perhaps Apple but less and have to hope that everything going on works out perfectly. IMO: Definitely no to Ford, would not be interested in Comcast, WBD is not a good business (with an absurdly overpaid CEO.) DIS/EL are "well, they're not going away" but that doesn't mean they can't continue to be not great investments for the foreseeable future - I mean, EL's continued decline is almost impressive at this point. What is the catalyst within a reasonable time frame for these to really turn around? CMCSA has media/theme parks/broadband. Broadband is competing with 5g to the home, media is not in good shape. I mean, the cable channels used to be a decent business, now all of them are being spun out aside from Bravo while PARA and WBD take massive write-offs on the value of theirs. The movie business is looking less and less appealing, network TV is a melting ice cube, etc. At some point with theme parks (both DIS/CMCSA) you're starting to price out more and more of the population.
