Ahh yes I see what you’re saying loud and clear. You make a fair point and I think we actually agree more than it seems. The brand IS changing, I just don't think that's automatically bad. Clearly investors might have other thoughts, but that just shows me they haven’t seen the inside of a gym lately. The old PLNT identity was built for a pre-GLP-1 world where the average person had zero reason to touch a weight. That world is gone. There are millions of people right now who are skinnier than they've ever been but have no muscle, no experience in a gym, and no idea where to start. A squat rack terrifies them. A Smith machine doesn't. That's actually a perfect fit for where PLNT is right now. They're not a serious lifter's gym, they're still very much the beginner's gym, just with slightly more tools than before. The younger demographic thing is real too. I'm seeing high schoolers treat these locations as a social spot in a way that didn't exist a few years ago. That's a new audience being pulled in organically, and that's exactly the kind of stickiness that builds long term membership growth. So yeah, old brand? Maybe fading. But the replacement audience might actually be bigger. They just have to figure out how to serve it, and right now I think the evidence on the ground says they're doing that better than the stock price reflects.

Can someone help me understand why PLNT is hovering around 1 year lows, down 25% YTD and 6 months after they smashed earnings, opened new gyms, had the highest black card rate but gave slightly weak outlook? I think affordability is a growing issue especially amongst young people. If there was a Planet Fitness near me, I’d save the extra 30$ per month and go there instead of my current gym.

Thanks. Basic fit is interesting and I met with IR in the past. They’ve done a great job since 3i listed them but I don’t like the fact they own the gyms. Makes them slow to open new clubs or they have to take massive debt. Also with PLNT entering Europe they may have to accept lower margins to compete.

PLNT made the news recently through their high inclusive policy of letting hairy dudes claiming to be trans harass teenage girls in women's locker room, and then cancel the memberships of women who complained. This is not what I'd call a winning business strategy. Furthermore, the type of person who would sign up for PLNT membership is also the type of person who'd just pin Ozempic instead and call it a day.
