Shares of Regulus Therapeutics ($RGLS) more than doubled after the company agreed to be acquired by Novartis ($NVS) in a deal with an equity value of up to $1.7 billion. The stock was changing hands at $7.78 in midday trading after closing at $3.37 Tuesday. Shares have risen nearly fivefold since 2025 started and haven't traded this high in more than three years. The biopharmaceutical company, which specializes in medicines targeting microRNAs, said Wednesday that Novartis would initiate a tender offer to buy outstanding shares for $7 apiece, plus a non-tradeable contingent value right for another $7 a share once Regulus meets a certain regulatory milestone related to its farabursen treatment. Once the tender offer is complete, Regulus will merge with a subsidiary of Novartis and any remaining Regulus shares will be canceled and converted into the right to receive merger consideration. The deal is set to close in the second half of the year.
What Finviz screener settings will help someone find penny stocks before they become top gainers? For example, Weight Watchers spiked like crazy yesterday, giving over a 90% gain. Yesterday I went on this subreddit and asked what sources will help me find breakout stocks, so I reached the next step of finding Finviz. I really like the screener so far and I'd like to know what settings on the screener should I pick in order to get stock breakouts, like Weight Watchers ($WW) or Regulus Therapeutics ($RGLS) that had a 136% change today. Would I keep the screener on while I'm trading? Can I use the screener (with the settings) to pick stocks that will break out in the premarket? Are there settings that will help me get potential premarket breakouts specifically?

Yeah, I grabbed a bunch when it was at 1.89 and some more at like 3.20, had a great week and now it turned real sour. I passed on RGLS and regret that - that one went up 134% today.

Biotech is a very difficult sector to invest in both ways. There is a lot of crap, but there are great companies and I think there are companies working on important breakthroughs. The sector is fascinating and while difficult, can be really rewarding if you do well. If you don't have any medical background (or at the very least, invest long or short without really trying to understand the basics of the company) you can easily be long something that fails a trial and is down 80% in an instant or be short something that goes up 80% in an instant. People can overstay their welcome in a biotech short and then have something go up because of a buyout - RGLS is up massively this morning on a buyout for $7 + a $7 CVR. It was $1 and down 94% from 2021 at the start of this year. There was a story in 2015 where someone was short a biotech that Martin Shkreli bought a stake in (https://money.cnn.com/2015/11/20/investing/trader-gofundme-drug-kalobios-shkreli/index.html) and got absolutely obliterated - he was short at $2 and the stock opened at $16. So, I don't think that most biotech companies fail and drop dramatically in a couple of days. I think a lot don't work out, but even with that you have to be careful with shorts because you can have something down massively and then someone buys it and it could be up 100%+ in an instant, like the example above. IMO, you should absolutely have a strong thesis for investing long or short in anything, but biotech is a particularly big example of that. I like investing in biotech, but it's definitely not for everyone and a sector you have to be very careful with.

What is unsubstantiated? My ROI? It’s a Roth IRA I started putting money into in 2019 and made my last contribution in 2024. You can pretty much tell just from that photo how high my ROI is. I don’t have 100% in RGLS obviously, I have about 40k in other stocks.

I did the same thing as you. I have a stable portfolio and bought RGLS. I’ve been following the company for 6 years. I think it has 20-40 bagger potential from here.

It's generally viewed with negative sentiment which is probably why the company didn't issue a press release. It was probably somewhere in a filing. On the Nasdaq where RGLS currently trades - the minimum is a $1 bid. You are seeing what's called a "reverse split". In this case, it looks like a 1 for 10 reverse split. So for every 10 shares of RGLS - it would be converted to 1 share. Yes - a reverse split results in the number of available shares going down.
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I just noticed last night that RGLS share prices increased a bunch. I was trying to figure out why, and the only thing I saw was something about a "reverse short" and that was a comment I happen to see on Reddit. Did the number of available shares go down causing the price to raise? Idk why I can't find any info on this, maybe I'm an idiot!
I agree 100% I’ve taught myself the hard way. I have friends that have a college degree including my daughter who is an analyst at BNY for portfolios over 5 million who think I’m just a gambler. Despite my position in RDBX. This year I started in March after being in prison for 7 years. My ROI is 35% on swing trading OCGN, ANY, PHUN, RBLX, AAPL, MULN, RGLS, and other penny stocks. The .50 strike differential on a penny stock can pay off because it’s a larger % TT. I take my 1-3% and exit. People who invest long term don’t appreciate daily compounding interest IMO. Get it up. Junk stocks rule!

You keep mentioning that if one of the drugs goes the distance it will give RGLS a $1 billion market cap, what if both drugs go all the way, what do you estimate the market cap to be? Well, that's the bet here now, isn't it? If the data is bad, like all biotechs RGLS will plummet. If the data is good, it should rise. But unfortunately with biotech, sometimes good isn't considered good enough, and the stock falls. Case in point: GRAY. The data was good this week, but not good enough so the stock lost half it value. (I'm now long @ $8.00, though, as I feel GRAY fell way too much and the market will eventually come around.) So, you want my advice? Seeing as you're nervous about RGLS, if you can get out on Monday at/near break even sell it. You may miss an upside opportunity if the data in question is good, but so what? At least you'll have peace of mind, and there will always be other opportunities in the future. And if the data is bad, you will have dodged a loss. (And what's worse? Simply a missed opportunity, or an actual realized loss? As for me, it's always going to be the former...)
Volume was far above average on Friday. RGLS hit a one week, one month, YTD and one year high on Friday. Days range: roughly $1.60 to $2.30, and RGLS closed pretty much in the middle at $1.96. Outside of bad news on Monday (poor trial results, a dilutive financing; etc.), I feel there's a good chance you'll see additional upside on Monday. (I flip these momentum biotechs all the time, so I know how worrisome they can be.)

My mother works as a nurse and wanted to invest in RGLS. I told her I’d research the company and buy some with her if I think it’s a good company. Does anybody hold this? I know they make hepatitis b and other liver medications, but with demand for a vaccine could they potentially work on that too?
