Costs going up means more people want or are forced to shop at discount clothing stores. And 32 PE is high but not insane, although I would agree that software companies should generally have a higher PE than retail stores thanks to better margins *(I'm honestly surprised they're at 20-25, I thought for sure they were well over 30 by now)*. What's the normal PE for the sector and comparable brands?
I'd be careful shorting ROST just because it ran. Off-price tends to catch trade-down demand and they can flex inventory/margins way better than DG, so you might just be betting on a clean earnings miss and multiple compression at the same time.
Gold Silver Military stocks Defensive stocks (PG ORLY COST ROST) Might not be a bad idea to put money in bonds to grow it for when this is all over. (My guess is summer/fall)

stocks like WMT and MCD have historically done really well through downturns. When middle income consumer downgrades spending, WMT and MCD benefit. You'll also see this in overperformance of TJX, ROST, etc.

Also, if you hold a variety of companies, over the long term the top three can change. Ten years ago my top three were AAPL, BDX and ROST, while I had smaller holdings of LLY, LRCX and MU. Those last three have recently grown to eclipse the others, and are now my top holdings.

I use Trade Station for a brokerage and TradingView for Technical Analysis. Overnight success took me 5 years of obsession. Not that you have to do it that way. It’s not easy. Biggest winner was an overnight trade this year on HIMS 2,000% overnight. Today winners ROST 15%, SYM 30%, SOUN 35%, ROKU 100%, COIN 240%. The problem is that the system is designed to detect high probability setups. So, for instance today out thousands of stocks it only picked up 5 stocks. **WDAY**, **CPRT**, **ROST**, **DECK** and **RUN**. These have the highest probability of successful prediction in the short term. As of today NVDA doesn't fit the criteria for a high probability play.
Ross is cheap clothing for poor people. If ROST is crashing, the economy will soon follow.

I thought it was a great buy at $500. Not here though. COST is also going down with the market. TJX and ROST typically do well in downturns but they got smashed too. One of the downsides of so much money in index funds.

The general idea—to make a few small investments in individual companies—is, I would say, a good one. But you’re picking the wrong companies. You’re picking companies based on what everyone is talking about online, and that’s bad. Those companies are by definition old news. I’m old, so take this or leave it. But the best investments I made when I was young were based on my own preferences, or on those of my friends. Twenty years ago everyone said Apple was doomed. But I loved their products, so I bought some AAPL. I liked EA’s games, and i liked shopping at COST and ROST. I’m not diabetic, but a friend who is diabetic talked about her new DXCM glucose monitor so enthusiastically I bought some shares. And over a few decades these all turned out to be good investments, much better than most of the stocks people were boosting online in 2005 or so. As a young person you know what you like, and other young people probably like those same things. Those are things that are new, and likely to grow in the coming years. And those are things old farts like me haven’t heard of. Watch for those things and when you see them invest in them.

Has anyone checked this isn’t against their competitors? ROST, TJX, even JWN? If this isn’t an outlier, there’s a reason for the valuation that’s clear.
You're not concerned the short sellers are putting negative market pressure on the stock price and deliberately creating negative sentiment about the stock through the news media? It didn't help that Kohls themselves gave negative guidance just last week at the start of the holiday shopping season when even struggling retailers talk up the boost they'll get from holiday sales. The stock may be a value trap and hang around its current stock price for years, why are the biggest institutional investors not issuing supporting statements about the brand? For the holiday retail boost: TJX, ROST, AMZN, BURL, WMT might at least go up a few dollars by the end of December.
The stock hasn't hit over $300 since 2021 during the COVID reopening. Concerned it's already got its boost because $ROST, $GAP, $TJX issued positive guidance and had well received earnings last week. When $BURL reports earnings this week it will be a coin toss in how the market reacts. If you've owned the stock for a while where it rose from $172 in November 2023 to it's current price $286, then SELL! Analysts will find any reason to bash a stock even if all the numbers are green Learned the hard way with $UPS having positive earnings/positive EPS in July 2024, but the market wasn't buying the CEO's comments as being positive about small business customers, so the run up in price to $145 before earnings was destroyed in 1 hour of analysts dissecting the CEO's remarks. Bought the stock at $143, the stock now trades around $130-135.
