It isn't just the biotech sector. For the past 10, almost 20 years, most corporation have trend towards downsizing or completely eliminated their R&D department in a bid to focus on the operational and business verticals. Most corporation aren't willing to underwrite R&D risk anymore. This has led to the rise and flourishing of startups that, if successful, are acquired, to be integrated into the core business of the buying company. I had a good part of my feet on the venture capital side and quant side of my professional career. **Iova is worth looking into.** They have two lines of product: Amtagvi (FDA approved for advanced melenoma with best in - class ORR, with consistency shown years after FDA approved) and Proleukin. >**52% Amtagvi Response Rate with Two or Fewer Prior Lines of Therapy 73% Overall Disease Control Rate** >SAN CARLOS, Calif., Feb. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: IOVA), a commercial biotechnology company focused on innovating, developing, and delivering novel polyclonal tumor infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapies for patients with cancer, today announced data demonstrating a best-in-class profile for commercial Amtagvi^(®) (lifileucel) with unprecedented response rates in a real-world clinical, retrospective study in patients with advanced (unresectable or metastatic) melanoma. Amtagvi is the first one-time T cell therapy for a solid tumor cancer as well as the only FDA-approved treatment for advanced melanoma patients previously treated with anti-PD-1 and targeted therapy, where applicable. >The real-world results were highlighted in an [oral presentation](https://www.iovance.com/scientific-publications-presentations/) at the 2026 Tandem Meetings of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT^(®)) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR^(®)) in Salt Lake City, UT. >Forty-one evaluable patients with previously treated advanced melanoma received commercial Amtagvi according to the U.S. prescribing information at four authorized treatment centers. The physician-assessed confirmed objective response rate (ORR) was 44% (18/41) and the disease control rate was 73% (30/41). Response rates were higher with earlier Amtagvi treatment. The ORR was 52% (12/23) following two or fewer lines of therapy compared to an ORR of 33% (6/18) after three or more lines of therapy. The unprecedented real-world response rates also improved upon the 31% ORR in the C-144-01 clinical trial that supported the U.S. FDA accelerated approval of Amtagvi. >Lilit Karapetyan, MD, MS of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute stated, “The real-world response rate builds on existing clinical data and supports consideration of lifileucel as soon as possible after immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment. An overall response rate of 44% was observed in the full cohort, with a 52% response rate among patients treated in earlier lines of therapy. I am encouraged by the potential for an increasing number of patients to benefit as adoption of TIL therapy continues.” >Daniel Kirby, Chief Commercial Officer of Iovance, stated, “The real world Amtagvi data with impressive response rates, paired with unprecedented five-year durability and survival data, demonstrate a best-in-class profile and better outcomes in patients treated earlier.” >Previously treated advanced melanoma represents an unmet medical need with more than 8,000 annual U.S. deaths.^(1) More than half of patients treated with first line standard of care will progress within 12 months.^(2) The U.S. FDA granted accelerated approval for Amtagvi in February 2024 based on ORR and duration of response (DOR) from the C-144-01 clinical trial. The published [final five-year analysis](https://ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JCO-25-00765) demonstrated unprecedented durability and follow-up in previously treated advanced melanoma patients, with \~31% ORR, median DOR of 36+ months, and a 20% five-year overall survival.^(3) Iovance is conducting TILVANCE-301, a Phase 3 clinical trial in frontline advanced melanoma, to confirm clinical benefit. >1. All evaluable patients had advanced disease, were refractory to prior therapy, and had significant disease burden, with a mean sum of diameters of 117 millimeters at baseline and a mean of more than two prior lines of therapy. Patients experienced deep responses that improved over time, consistent with lifileucel in melanoma, non-small-cell lung cancer, and other solid tumors. The safety profile was favorable and consistent with lifileucel therapy in other indications. Based on these results, Iovance plans to commence a single arm registrational trial in second-line advanced UPS and DDLPS in the second quarter of 2026 and will engage with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on an accelerated path to expedite approval. Iovance also plans to explore lifileucel in other high grade soft tissue sarcoma subtypes with high unmet need as part of its clinical development program. >UPS and DDLPS are high grade, aggressive soft tissue sarcomas associated with poor prognosis that impact more than 3,000 patients in the U.S. and more than 5,000 patients in Europe annually, including more than 3,500 patients with advanced disease.^(1-3) There is a high unmet medical need for new treatment options for second-line patients with recent clinical studies reporting ORRs of less than 5%, median progression-free survival (mPFS) of \~2-3 months, and median overall survival (mOS) of \~9-10 months.^(4-6) >Lauren Baker Banks, MD, PhD, Sarcoma Medical Oncologist, MSKCC, stated, “In the first clinical trial of a TIL cell therapy in UPS and DDLPS, one-time treatment with lifileucel demonstrated compelling and unprecedented response rates with the potential to address a significant unmet need in patients who are refractory to frontline standard of care. Patients with UPS and DDLPS suffer from high disease burden, poor quality of life, and a lack of effective treatments, including no approved immunotherapy options. In the second-line setting, mPFS for many patients is only a few months with mOS less than a year. We look forward to presenting these results at a medical conference in 2026.” >Dr. Brian Gastman, EVP Translational Medicine and Research at Iovance, stated, “The exciting clinical results show that lifileucel could offer a new, highly efficacious, and durable immunotherapy option in two aggressive forms of advanced sarcoma and further illustrate the promise of our TIL cell therapy platform to offer meaningful clinical benefit in multiple solid tumor cancers. Chemotherapy with extremely poor efficacy remains the second-line standard of care for these patients after progression on front-line chemotherapy. We look forward to bringing lifileucel to UPS and DDPLS patients as quickly as possible.” Source: [https://ir.iovance.com/news-releases/news-release-details/iovance-announces-positive-results-first-clinical-trial-til-cell](https://ir.iovance.com/news-releases/news-release-details/iovance-announces-positive-results-first-clinical-trial-til-cell) More: [https://ir.iovance.com/news-events/press-releases](https://ir.iovance.com/news-events/press-releases)

This will probably get lost here, but seems like a lot of people have forgotten the energy SAVINGS we have created over the past 20 years. \- 100 watt lightbulbs now use only 16 or so watts. \- Refrigerators, dryers, dishwashers are all much more efficient \- 14 SEER HVAC is much more efficient than what we had 20 years ago, 30 years ago. I know we have a lot more smart devices but seems like we have saved a lot of energy in a lot of areas that we didn't used to care about. And I'm not an electrician, but when is the life expectancy of electrical wire, seems like it chould be much more than 50 years?

Oh they’ve solved the AC problem tho didn’t you hear? The EPA made a rule only SEER2 units can be new installs for central air, and the average price is $15k. So people just won’t have AC, the people most sensitive to the heat like the elderly will conveniently die off, and there will be plenty of energy for the EV chargers. Win/win/win. /s

HVAC also faces changing regulations at the beginning of the new year so may customers are rushing to get in before the expected price increases; quite a few companies are trying to offload their lower SEER equipment before it cannot be used.

Basically higher oil/gas= higher electricity generation cost. Using less energy for heating and cooling by pushing people to install more efficient systems is part of a strategy to combat rising fuel costs. HSPF measures heat pump efficiency in heating mode, SEER measures heat pump efficiency in cooling mode

Here’s how much they changed since you worked installing them: “As the SEER number climbs, the amount of power needed to cool your home decreases. For example, a heat pump with a 12 SEER rating uses half of the electricity of a 6 SEER unit. A 10-SEER unit bought in 2005 is about 30 percent less efficient than a newer model with a minimum SEER rating of 14. The most efficient heat pumps have a SEER rating of 23 and an HSPF rating of 10.2. Heat pumps achieve this efficiency through two significant advances: variable speed motors and 2-stage compressors.”

SEER ratings are almost as legitimate as these inflation rates.

Repair? The system was 23 years old from 1998. The compressor seized up and was drawing 104 AMPS (the Locked rotor amp rating). For a repair, you can evaporate the system, replace the compressor, vacuum the lines, fill with nitrogen, and refill the refrigerant but that is not recommended as there can be shrapnel and broken compressor pieces in the AC lines \ evaporator coil. You could spend thousands(the compressor is $1200 by itself) and just end up with a broken AC system again. It is an R22 system that had a small leak. The government has banned R22 production. The price is through the roof, roughly costing 5X to 10X the price in the last 10 years making the system very expensive to service. It was also an inefficient system with a 10 SEER rating, the new one is rated 17 SEER so effectively using 42% less energy which will help defray the costs of the installation.

Valuation is subjective. Yes there is a long way for solar to run so in theory, these two have a lot more money to make the next decade or two. However their share prices are pretty high. Yes ENPH is growing top line quickly but they are obviously struggling with the margins. SEDG is not growing as fast but has a better long outlook. Other companies that do the same thing seem to be getting squeezed out despite having similar products. But I will say that I am personally not buying at these levels. Reasoning: ENPH looks good right now but there are fundamental problems with their tech. Namely, micro inverters are better suited for non-battery installs. Once you introduce a battery, micros are the last things you want to own. With a micro, you invert at the panel level, then if you want to store to battery, invert again, and then to use battery, invert again for a total of 3 inversions. Each inversion is a 1%-4% loss when using the battery. This is the major flaw in the design. With a central inverter setup, you invert only once total regardless of whether or not you use battery. So anyone who wants batteries either today or in the future, should avoid micros. This is why I dont install ENPH and this is why none of the major competitors are bothering with micros. Ever wonder why Tesla decided to make a central inverter instead of micros? This is the reason. Sunnyboy (SMA) bought Tigo, a optimizer and they dropped their own line of micros a couple of years ago. The writing is on the wall. Now all that said, Enphase is the market leader right now and has the brand name and money to address this major flaw. What has me worried is that they havent done so yet. I think they are avoiding it out of fear... I think they are afraid to tell installers that micros are not the future because the minute they do, their orders would plummet immediately. You would be surprised how many installers and general electricians dont actually know the stuff I said above... most are total idiots. Kind of like how many HVAC people dont know anything about SEER ratings... sad but thats the real world for you. The good news is that ENPH can fix the problem. The best option is to make a hybrid optimizer/inverter. Basically a device that switches between inverter mode and pass through mode when charging a battery. This does add complexity to design which is never good but it should be a fairly cheap thing to do. The problem will be quality control because more complexity also means more things can go wrong. So if I were an investor today, I would say to buy SEDG. ENPH looks better financially but long term, they have a fundamental tech problem that needs to be addressed. But they are the market leader and thats why I am not selling my few token shares. I think they will fix the issue in time, hopefully it wont hurt them too much. For a deep value play go with SMA but those guys suck at marketing. Those idiots at SMA had the entire field to themselves for years before SEDG and ENPH and failed to capitalize. They need new leadership but I do think they might have an advantage in EU being a German company.
