So firstly, if I was trying to explain BTC payserver to a business. I’d skip the whole be your own bank thing. That’s too far down the rabbit hole of what BTC is and the merchant probably only cares about providing their product or service. (Maybe after they use the server for a little bit they might start asking themselves wtf is this bitcoin thing and figure it out for themselves) What’s important for merchants to understand is with a BTC payserver you can take low-cost instant electronic payments via lightning (we’re taking less than a 1% of transaction value vs. 2-5% credit card companies charge merchants being in the network) and then they can do final settlement of all their sales at COB or the end of the week whatever their preference is. They can then sell the BTC for dollars or save some of it whatever they are comfortable with. So right there, we can lower your overhead. And you have cash in hand from all electronic payments at the end of the day. No way to get a charge back from the credit card company or any of that. (Granted if they wanna swap it to cash that might take a day or two to go from coinbase to their checking account) BTCs mainchain is too slow for day to day payments, it takes 10 mins to get one confirmation but standard now is to wait for 6 or about an hour to be totally sure. People can’t be waiting that long to walk out of the coffee shop with their coffee. That’s where BTC layer-2 solutions like lightning come in. To give you an EXTREMELY simplified explanation of how it works, you lock up a bit of bitcoin on the mainchain this allows you to send or receive any amount under the total you locked up for close to nothing and then at the end of the day settle the total amount in or out from you on the mainchain and then you’d wait that hour to receive final settlement of all the smaller transactions that happened while that bitcoin was locked up. Escrow is possible on BTC, and as this infrastructure gets built out I’m sure other businesses like businesses insurance will come to exist to minimize fraud cost as well. Theoretically though rule of law would protect you from a legitimate company not sending you a product, you’d sue and provide proof of the transaction and settle it in court like now.
COB 2 days ago, Blackrock had a little over 16K BTC. COB yesterday, Blackrock had a little over 25K BTC. I don’t know if they can continue to buy almost 10K per day, but with all their salespeople, maybe? And that’s just Blackrock. If you include Fidelity et. al., maybe 10K a day might be a valid number. I’ve read there are around 2 million BTC available for sale on exchanges. At 10K a day, that would be exhausted before the end of the year. Now I know there are OTC supplies available that would have to be exhausted first. But I think at 10K a day, I think it’s just a matter of time before we hit a supply crunch. Just have to keep monitoring to see if that rate can stay the same.
Yes this is a more specific answer. In practice however you need to look at what would happen before litigation. For example, assume that in one scenario the person puts the exact change on the counter and walks out of the shop. The shop calls the police claiming what exactly? That he didn’t pay? Or that what he paid with was not acceptable to the shop. The first process would be to convince the police that any wrongdoing had taken place (which would be very hard to do) and the next step would be to file civil action. The court would ask if the person left the shop, what happened to the money they placed on the counter? Did the shop take it and put it somewhere? Like for example the cash register? Again it would be very hard to argue that the person had not paid in legal tender and it was not in practice accepted by the shop at COB that day. The point I want to make is that in every practical sense refusing to accept fiat money when it is made available to you and after it came into your custody would not go your way in court.
This is true. My buds and I made a Crypto podcast in 2016-17 era. Our biggest win was getting awarded 4,000 COB by making a video about Cobinhood. When we received them they were worth 30 cents each and soon went up to a dollar. So we got $1200 (which became $4000) for just one video. But this was also during the big Crypto craze when the markets were wildly exploding.

Here's why banks blow: got my federal tax refund on Thursday the 16th in my bank account. Bank would not let me initiate txfr of funds to brokerage account until Friday COB. Funds supposedly will clear and be available for trading on the 24th. Assuming I buy on the 24th, final settlement of stocks and ETF trades usually take at least 2 business days, probably around march 1st. So to move funds to be able to invest and achieve final settlement on those investments from the time I received the funds will take a minimum of about 2 weeks. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Huh. I'm in the US and if I make the transaction request before noon local time it's moved by COB. After noon local time and it's there the next morning at opening time. 35K limit for ACH, unlimited for wire transfers. Maybe it's BoA? I despise that institution and don't do business with them.

i dunno im in Crypto since 2011 and i fell once in $COB Cobinhood. It was an exchange without fees and they would make money trough ICOs. It was online but nobody traded there because of the lack of volume.. then they shutdown the site once. Till today i dont know if it was a scam but if it was i fell for it
